I just had surgery with Dr. Basile. He was very thorough and ordered different imaging just to make sure surgery was the right answer. He did a great job and took the time to answer my questions and check on me after surgery.

I wish I could have run out the door as soon as I started speaking to the nurse before I even met Dr. Basile. She was incredibly rude. I have never felt more judged and made to feel uncomfortable by a medical professional. She made terrible comments about my feet while taking my x-rays. She insisted that I stop talking and point to where my pain was located during my patient history, even though she kept asking and I explained exactly where it was. Told me that holding onto my purse made her feel uncomfortable, even though no offer was made as to where I should place my belongings as she rushed me into the exam chair. She bad talked the doctor every moment he left the room, loudly and with the door open, before I even met him. She even went so far as to stand behind him and make faces while he finally examined me. Neither Dr. Basile or his nurse took the time to figure out what is causing my pain. The first thing he said when he came in the room after viewing my x-rays, and before touching me at all, was that I would require surgery. It would be long and complicated both in surgical process and recovery time. It will take lots of planning because of how complicated the procedure will be. Only after this did he actually feel my foot. I was left with the option to pursue surgery and get custom orthotics. The pain in my foot is not even where he will plans on operating and has never caused me a problem for the 18 years I have had it. I let him make the custom casts for orthotics in the hope that it will ease some of the pain I am in. Dr. Basile and his nurse made me a make shift support before I left which doesn't even cover the area where my pain is and makes it worse when I wear it. Obviously I am getting a second opinion once I find another doctor. I wish I didn't get orthotics through them. It makes me sick just thinking about walking in the door again.

I had a neuroma removed which was fine. I wore a walking shoe for about a month. I developed back pain and asked if it was related...he said he'd never heard of such a thing. Then after several months I had pain on the outer side of my foot. He took an X-ray and said I needed another surgery as the bones had "splayed" meaning separated and he would need to "shave the bones." I didn't feel right about it. I called a doctor I knew in a different area and he agreeed to see me even tho it hadn't been the customary year of seeing a new doctor after having a surgery (its about liability). He asked what the problem was. I said "you tell me...examine my feet etc make a diagnosis, then I'll tell you." WELLLL. He did about 4 X-rays of both feet. His were crystal clear (it's a bigger group), unlike Dr. Basile's. And guess what....? Not a single thing wrong with either foot! No splaying of bones, nothing looked unusual.
Then I told the doctor my story and was he ANGRY! I would have had unnecessary surgery. ALL I NEEDED was a few weeks of physical therapy as I had been walking funny because of having the neuroma (a nerve that balls up and causes pain) and limping. Foot surgery makes your gait out of balance and CAN cause back pain (I've since become a licensed massage therapist).

When in doubt, get a second opinion, I'm sure glad I did.

He had a nice personality and bedside manner; that's all the good I can say.

I'm really surprised at the reviews I've read about Dr. Basile. He was far from patient, nice, and ready to explain things. I found him rushed, and slightly elitist. I will not be going back. His staff, specifically Jasmine, is the only reason why I went to him twice and allowed them to do my orthotics. If I continue to have problems after I receive them, I will find someone else.
