In 1981 I had a Hysterectomy by Dr. Getta and one of his partners. Looking back I feel they were concerned about how fast they could perform the procedure. I almost died on the operating table and they had to call in two other specialists to repair my damaged bladder and put my intestines back in place. After over 4 hours of surgery and blood transfusions, I spent two weeks in the hospital, I went home with a catheter in my bladder and stents in my kidneys, and the urologist telling me that my bladder might not ever work again. It took over two years of pain and lots of tears for me to recover normal use of my bladder. Then a couple years later I had to have surgery again to repair my stomach muscles. Dr. Getta's partner kept telling me how sorry he was, but Dr. Getta never apologized.

Stay away! He is nice, kind, seems like he has all the time in the world for you....but he is just a terrible doctor! He does NOT know his stuff and please, Good Lord, DO NOT let him OPERATE on you!! He will cut into things he shouldn't and you will feel the repercussions by years of healing, if you live through it!! He changed lives and not for the better, beware, not a good doctor!!

Please, please take these comments into consideration. I'm sure Getta has had some success stories. But I almost died from the complications he caused. These comments are not being written by a mean ex-wife, we are real people whose lives he's turned upside down! He is very suave, comes off as extremely caring, but he does NOT know his stuff!! He stopped delivering babies because Luke's and Mercy wouldn't let him anymore and his partners threw him out on his ear. Please, for your own safety, don't risk it. What I went throught tramatized me and my family and threw my whole life off course. My husband, kids and I will be eternally grateful to U of I for saving my life!!!

stay away. for those who say hes never been sued you are completely ignorant on this. research him and youll see suit after suit. this doesnt even scratch the surface as most suits are not even filed. i would also stay away from his former colleagues as they stood by and watched all the while he destroyed lives

spends more time with patients than any doctor I had, looks me in the eye always, trusting, gentle...stopped delivering babies in 2008 to spend more time with his children...has never had an obstetrical lawsuit despite delivering over 5000 babies, all my friends go to him.

There is a HUGE reason why Dr. Getta is having to poor so much money into advertising with his new clinic. His reputation is beyond repair. He had to leave his practice because niether Mercy or St. Luke's would let him practice there anymore. He would operate on women and then leave. The hospitals were then stuck trying to figure out why patients wouldn't stop bleeding and why all of his patients got such bad infections. Avoid him at all costs.

He delivered both my girls. If we could have him as a family doctor we would. My oldest daughter had seizures when she was born he was always checking on us even after she was moved t the nicu. He is a very good doctor

I really liked Dr. Getta. He took the time to explain everything to me and did so very clearly and effectively. I felt very comfortable with him.
