This is the first time I've ever commented on anything online, and I'm only doing it because I can't believe that people are complaining about Dr. Ettinger -- it's clearly their problem, not his. He is the best doctor I've ever been to. (I'm 48 and have seen a lot of doctors!) He's not in my network, but I'm happy to pay extra for his kindness, concern, knowledge and manner. He's thorough and thoughtful, and is never patronizing -- it's a joy to have a doctor who doesn't automatically assume you're stupid. He takes as much time as you need (which is why he's sometimes running a bit late). If I could give him 10 stars, I would.

He's amazing and is extremely hands on and helpful. Not too many doctors call there patients every day when ill at home to see what he can do for them to get well faster.

I believe Dr. Ettinger is an excellent diagnostician. He identified what was wrong with me when others couldn't. Sometimes he is helpful and kind, and other times he is grumpy even as he enters the exam room (so I know his "shortness" is not based on anything I've said or done). I prefer consistency. I was recently admitted to the hospital on an emergency basis and found out he was no longer associated with Huntington Memorial Hospital. That made me feel less safe during my hospital stay. I am shopping around for another doctor.

The last comment must be from a crazy family. Dr. Ettinger generally deals with difficult patients pretty effectively. However, as we all know, there will be patients or their families who will blame everyone else for their issues.

My grandmother had a stroke two months ago. She called Dr. Ettinger to tell him that she had lost feeling in her hand, and thought she maybe had a stroke. His receptionist, who is NOT a nurse, told her that the doctor wasn't free and gave her an appointment for two weeks later. The next day I took her to another doctor. We had to go straight to emergency and have her admitted to the stoke unit. We went to the appointment two weeks later, and Dr Ettinger was defensive and rude, blaming my grandmother for not being more aware of correct medical terminology, and then continued on to tell her that she has a history of not responding to medical situations correctly; stating that my recently deceased grandfather didn't receive proper care from her. Aren't doctors there to help you when you don't know what is wrong? Dr. Ettinger proved to be absolutely careless and unapologetic. We will never go to him again.

Simply put, the best MD I have experience with (and I am 52). I go out of network, but it is worth it.

Dr. Ettinger is excellent in expertise, bed-side manner, communication. Explains in plain English your condition and opportunities for improvement. I go to him each year for a physical, it's the best investment I make all year long.

Dr. Ettinger is brilliant. Spends almost an hour with me on my yearly checkup and explains everything that's going on in a smart, careful way without being patronizing or arrogant. I pay quite a bit extra outside my health plan to see him and it's absolutely worth it.
