Dr. John Yee is quite simply a great doctor. It’s hard for me to put into words without getting emotional about how great he was with me. I arrived at VGH as an emergency from St. Paul’s. My stomach was stuck in a hiatus hernia. Despite feeling miserable and anxious, I calmed down immediately once he started explaining the situation. His expertise and overall warm were so apparent that I knew that I was extremely lucky to have him as my surgeon.

I wish the rating system went higher than 5 stars! He is a very kind man who also happens to be an exceptional doctor.

Dr. Yee operated a lung surgery for my dad. My dad suffered from severe bronchiectasis that led to difficulty breathing for a very long time. At the time, he didn't think there were any medical operations that could help, and was hopeless to think that he'd have to live the rest of his life, unable to breathe comfortably, that most people take for granted, and that he might die earlier than expected from all the complications as he aged further.

After surgery, and post recovery, he felt like he was given a second chance at life. It is hard for me to grasp exactly what my dad had felt all these years, breathing shallowly and gasping for air, feeling like he's constantly suffocating, but I am just glad to see my dad become so happy and relieved.

My dad and I have extreme gratitude toward Dr. Yee for all the help he provided, from initial assessment to surgery, and post surgery follow-ups.

He has been very helpful in a way that he thoroughly explained and guided every step of the way. That's why even the process of such surgery could have felt quite daunting, we felt like we were in the right hands and felt comfortable that things will work out.

Dr Yee is a personal hero to me . He performed a double lung transplant in September 2022 . I suffered a stroke on the table and he literally saved my life by not giving up on me during my time in a coma . He fought for me .... I owe him my life ... period .

Dr. Yee performed a rt pneumonectomy on my husband on Aug 8, 2013. We are celebrating 10 years post pneumonectomy, post cancer!
Many thanks to the skilled, knowledgeable, thorough and compassionate Dr Yee! At 80, my husband is still cancer free.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr Yee. He saved my life. He is Kind and Compassionate, and will spend time explaining things so you can understand. His skill is the best ever, I was a poor risk and he did his magic and removed my tumour during my thoracotomy Bilobectomy. His MOA Liz, is so kind and knowledgeable as well and will do her best to get your surgical booking as fast as possible. You will not find a better Thoracic Surgeon! I am forever Grateful.

I am 84 years old, non-smoker, and was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer in the fall of 2022. I had the good fortune of being referred to Dr. Yee for my lung lobectomy. I knew Dr. Yee has the reputation of being one of the best thoracic surgeons in Canada. Not only did he live up to that reputation, he was also a very kind and humble. He explained how the lobectomy would proceed and what to expect. I was comfortable with the procedure as I knew I would be in very good hands with Dr. Yee. The operation was scheduled a couple of weeks after the initial consult. Elizabeth, Dr. Yee’s assistant, was also very kind and made sure everything required before the operation was set up. The operation went smoothly. I was then sent to the step down unit at the Chest Centre on the 12th floor of VGH/Pattison to recover. While there, I received excellent care and attention from the staff of nurses, physios and respiratory therapists. The team of nurses included Elsa, Cathy, Daniel and Claresse. Under their watch, I healed nicely without many complications, was on my feet by the third day and home by the fifth day. Shortly thereafter I was back to my previous self and living life as before. I can’t believe how little I feel from the effects of the operation. I am cured of the lung cancer! This is all thanks to the skill of Dr. Yee. My family and I are forever grateful to Dr. Yee and his entire team (Elizabeth, Dr. Costa and the 12th floor VGH staff) for giving me my health in these later years. I was lucky to have had Dr. Yee as my surgeon but as a whole we are so fortunate to have him and his team in our healthcare system.

It is God's grace that I was so lucky to be referred to Dr. John Yee after I was
diagnosed with lung cancer at Vancouver General Hospital, he saved my life
and I believe Dr. Yee is the most admirable and trustworthy doctor that I’ve
ever seen and he is not only skilled in lung cancer and lung transplantation,
but also very patient, kind, and full of love for the patients. Moreover he has a
very professional and caring team, his secretary Mrs. Elizabeth was also
friendly and helpful during the process.
I remember Dr. Yee and I first met on December 3rd 2021, and he patiently
introduced the diagnosis results of my chest CT and surgical treatment plan,
which included the Microcoil's new technologies he invented. He also patiently
answered all of my questions I had thoroughly in details and I fully believed
that Doctor Yee is a very professional and responsible doctor who deserves
my complete trust and he gave me confidence to face my diagnosis.
On February 7th, 2022, Dr. Yee did Wedge Resection Surgery for me. On this
day, he had two continuous operations. Although he was very tired, Dr. Yee
came to the ward 12A in the evening to ask how I am doing and informed me
that the surgery was very successful. His kindness and responsibility made
me very moved and unforgettable, and I believe that he is full of kindness,
understanding and care for all patients, he makes all patients feel love and
peace.
