This doctor mentored under a doctor in NY that initially treated my wife. We were optimistic. Unfortunately, Dr. Pirello is probably a good surgeon, however, he has poor bedisde manner and treated my wife during her followup visits as though she were a bother to him. His His PA, named Justin, was even worse in his arrogance and disdain for my wife's questions about her surgery and followup treatment. they are without feeling and compassion. In addition, they have routinely made my wife wait and wait to be seen. I stopped going with her because I was frustrated with the wait times, and there were no other people in the waiting room so I am mystified as to why we were waiing. The Staff is terbile-not trained well, we got misinfrrmation many times concering her short term disbility claim and they seemed upset each time we questioned them. they are a sad example to the Novant Healthcare system and should be closed.

Dr. Pirello and his staff are amazing! He has spent HOURS explaining my surgery, checking five years of my medical records, answering questions and personally handling issues I have had with referrals. His staff is the most professional and helpful group of people I have ever encountered. It has been shocking how easily they were able to help me move me through this complicated and emotional process. Love them!!

I had my surgery on Feb. 27, 2008 and I have nothing but fantastic things to say about Dr. Pirrello. I have not had any complications from my surgery at all and I have lost 230lbs since my surgery date. He was on top of things while I was in the hospital and made sure every thing went well. My blood pressure was down while in the hospital and the nurses told me he called in at 3am to check on my status. He is always very good at explaining everything you will go through and need. I would not recommend anyone else to do this surgery since I believe I have had the best surgeon for it. If he ever needs or needed a recommendation all you have to do is ask me and I will make sure you know he is the best. I do not believe any of the other bad comments about him but I do know things happen but I don't believe he is the reason for the bad things.

Dr. Pirrello performed both my RnY w/ Fobi Band & an emergency surgery for strangulated hernia. Every encounter I have had with him has been outstanding. He takes the time to make sure you understand everything that is going on, & he helps you make choices for your health care, rather than dictating what you will do. When he was at the prior practice in Concord, NC, he was required to use the support & nutrition staff they used. That office staff was so overburdened that they could not keep up with the patients needs. Further, the nutritionists gave conflicting information to the doctor, & did not provide the service necessary, expected or paid for. I believe that poor ratings of "Dr. Pirrello" may be actually based on the staff (& particularly the nutritionist) at that practice & so are not reflective of his actual abilities & actions. At that prior practice, he actually introduced a procedure which was then presented at a professional conference. I highly reccomend him.

Describing My experience with Dr. Jon Pirrello seems nearly imposible to do. He has been nothing but good to me.I am 15 months post-op I have followed all of the guidelines and requirements for success. The respect that i have for Dr. Pirrello is unmeasurable, this man helped me change my life. Since my initial Gastric Bypass Surgery i have had to have my Gal-Bladder removed. Dr. Pirrello also performed this surgery which was another success. Dr. Pirrello has the best best side manner and i can honestly say that i trust him with my life. As far as his nurses go, i could not ask for them to be any nicer. They always go out of thier way to ensure that i am taken care of and if Dr. Pirrello asks something of them they make sure that it gets done. In conclusion i dare say that if you have had a bad experience with Dr. Pirrello it is probly because orders were not followed. Dr. Pirrello is a very thorough surgeon and he expects you as the patient to follow through with what is expected.

I do not believe he is very experienced. My daughter had serious complications after gastric bypass and it all had to be reversed. She has been gravely ill for a year now.

The clerical staff at the office have on many occasions been rude and abrupt to me. They have told me that the insurance claims were filed. Yet my insurance company has said they were not. On one occasion, the office manager talked with me over the phone. She yelled at me and strongly covered the backs of her staff, knowing that they were in error as to when the claim was filed. When confronted by his staff's problems, Dr. Pirrello became defensive and blamed the problems of the staff on me. He dismissed me as a patient, told me to find another doctor, and now has refused to give me a lapband refill procedure. I have been made to feel like my problems with the staff are all my fault. Needless to say, all the turmoil has caused me to become emotionally upset. Dr. Pirrello is a most uncaring physician who looks on the exterior of his patients, blames them for their fate, has great trouble empathizing, and emotionally helping his patients, and is a detriment to his patients' lives.
