I'm still waiting for relief from my symptoms, so it remains to be seen whether I'm satisfied with his help. My chief complaint is with a recent endoscopy. I wasn't adequately sedated and experienced pain/discomfort at the beginning of the procedure. I could feel the the tube going down by the throat and something jabbing into my esophagus. I had to alert the doctor by groaning. I suppose I was somewhat under because I couldn't open my eyes but I was fully aware of what was happening. The nurse later confirmed that my medication was adjusted when they heard me groaning. I was also a little disturbed when she told me that most patients are adequately medicated so they don't remember what happened (never mind experiencing discomfort in the first place because the patient is not fully under). I have never had a similar experience with another doctor where I was conscious during any type of surgical procedure. I have had two previous colonoscopies with the same doctor in the past with no problems, but I would not undergo any further procedure with this doctor. I will also add that after complaining to the nurse, my feedback was apparently not shared with the doctor, as he made no mention of it. I did not bring this up with the doctor because I just wanted to get through my follow-up consult with any further drama.

Told me there was nothing he could do for me and had no interest in listening or helping.

I have been seeing Dr Palley for over a year and after spending thousands of dollars, am still no closer to effective management of my GI symptoms. I have found that he is a poor listener and has a limited repertoire of treatment options. He is not interested in a holistic approach towards medicine (e.g. nutrition, medication, lifestyle) to better improve his patient's symptoms. In the several appointments I have had, Dr Palley is never punctual and has left me feeling more lost with my GI problems than when I first started seeing him. Overall, I unfortunately am not able to recommend him as a GI specialist and will not be a returning patient. I strongly recommend seeing another gastroenterologist unless you have a very simple problem to diagnose.

Wouldn't answer my questions; said to ask my primary physician. Was abrupt and seemed to be in a hurry to leave.

Dr. Palley is very caring and takes the time to listen and answer questions. His assistant, Lisa, is fantastic as well. They are both very dedicated!
