Dr. Tahira Jiwani is a true professional. She is knowledgeable, has a calming demeanor, and is easy to talk to. If you are a patient of hers, you are truly in good hands. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition many years ago, and exhausted all treatments with pharmaceutical medications from my doctors and specialists. These treatments included steroids, immunosuppressants, and biologic response modifiers that came with very minimal results and scary side effects. Wanting to take my treatment in a different direction, I started seeing Dr. Jiwani in October of last year. I left my first consultation feeling like I had finally taken control of my health, and I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Dr Jiwani asked me questions that my doctors and specialists never had. The compassion and understanding that I continually feel from her is extremely genuine. She is so supportive. I trust her with my health 100%. With diet changes and natural supplements, I have been able to control my health and my symptoms of disease have completely disappeared. It is incredible! I have been able to remove all of my past pharmaceutical medications completely. My specialist are very happy with the results too. Dr. Jiwani has superior supplements at a very reasonable cost. I am so thankful for her and her treatments. She has pushed me to live a much healthier life, which on its own, has proven beneficial. Dr Jiwani was able to create a treatment plan that fit my lifestyle, and even goes the extra mile to help you find recipes that fit your dietary restrictions. She is everything I could have hoped for in a Naturopathic Doctor. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone struggling to achieve health. I echo every positive comment that people have posted on here. ~Abby

I went to Dr. Jiwani because a coworker had success seeing her. My severe eczema left me physically & emotionally scarred, depressed from the fatigue and isolation. The itchiness keeping me awake, driving me crazy. She helped me get soft healthy skin and recover from all the scarring. I know now that the body can heal itself. I am happy to refer her to my friends and family.

When I found a few bald spots in my hair, I panicked. I started the doctor recommended steroid injections but I still kept getting new spots on my head then I started losing my eyebrows & patches in my beard. Shaving my head was not hiding it anymore. I found Dr. Jiwani because of her experience with hair loss and alopecia. She is confident and to the point and now I get why. I got my hair back within a few months of treatment just as we discussed and I feel in control of my health. I feel justified in telling people about her as she’s much cheaper than others I researched and she has decades of experience.

Someone my mom knew had seen Dr. Jiwani for a difficult condition and gotten better. My mom encouraged me to go when my dermatologist said that there was nothing he could do beyond the steroid injections for my alopecia. I went from a few patches that would come and go to complete baldness including eyebrows and eyelashes in half a year. I was not very hopeful when I went for my appointment but there was no charge so I had nothing to lose. When I researched the website I saw that the doctor had alopecia herself so I was curious. Our appointment was very thorough and I left feeling more optimistic for my hair growth. Once I started my treatment protocol I noticed change within a few months and by the sixth month I had eyebrows eyelashes and scalp hair!! I even got peach fuzz back on my face and body. It did take a whole year to get complete growth on my scalp, and Dr. Jiwani has taught me how to make sure it doesn’t happen again. For those of you out there who are experiencing this, I highly recommend treating your hair loss naturally, but it’s not easy. It requires motivation and discipline but I am happy to see it works.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Jiwani regularly for the past 6 or so years. Leading up to making the choice to starting seeing her my health had deteriorated to a very scary point. At the age of 25 I was suffering from an un diagnosed case of hypothyroidism, was living in a house with toxic black mold, had a horrible diet and was suffering from the effects of trying to get off an anti seizer drug called *****. A drug I had been on for many many years longer then I was suppose to be, at the suggestion of my family doctor at the time. He was completely un informed and incompetent to the long term effects of the drug and what it takes to get off of it. Anyway that’s another story for another time… Some days I felt like I was on deaths door. Due to all the previous issues I mentioned I was suffering from many debilitating symptoms such as Irritability, extreme fatigue, anxiety attacks, OCD and cronic inflammation to name a few. I had involuntarily lost around 65LBS in under a month and felt I was withering away. I had never experienced anything like this before. My whole life I was fit and in great mental and physical health. I was recommended to Dr. Jiwani from a friend. I will never forget one of the things she said to me during our first appointment. She said ‘’ The mind and body can heal itself, you just have to give it time and the right stuff so it can do it’s job’’… Something like that anyway!! lol.. That day was the beginning of getting my life back. Today, with the help of Dr. Jiwani I have nearly completely healed my thyroid, become epilepsy medication free and free of all of the horrible symptoms I was experiencing before. She’s a wizard! Her supplements are some of the best on the planet (I have done the research). Everyone at the office is amazing. I feel very strongly that I might not be alive without Dr. Jiwani and the work she does. I highly encourage anyone who is of feeling like crap or anyone who wants to take their health and nutrition to the next level to see her. Or just anyone in general for that matter. If your typical doctor was like Dr. Jiwani. The world would be a much different place! Cheers

Looks like she is for everyone recommending the same treatment not depending on the diagnosis. $489 allergy blood test, expensive her own line supplements, which you need to take a lot as the doses are tiny (6-8 tablets of one bottle, when you need 5 different bottles) and so strict diet which just impossible to keep for 2 years. Maybe she is knowledgeable but looks like with years is interested more in money as during 2 years didn't help much, was not able to look from any other angle, was sticking to the same recommendations. My husband got the same treatment even if the diagnosis was different, she also try to push with finding her clients, for that you are getting 25% off her supplements. I really do not recommend her. You feel like you are sitting on the needle without support and optimism from doctor.

Dr. Tahira Jiwani ND's response
Generally for patient confidentiality:
The body is a chemical machine, and I explain to patients that food allergies affect the chemistry of the whole body, as everything is interrelated. The body is not in separate little boxes, but rather an incredibly complex hormonal organism. These chemical messengers orchestrate the many functions in the body that keep us healthy.

Although it may seem like the same treatment is being given, we are addressing the root causes of your symptoms. It is like being upset when your doctor gives you an antibiotic for an infection, when you would not want your doctor to prescribe your family anything else, if there is in fact an infection.

In naturopathic medicine, we look at the symptoms and conditions, and resolve them by treating the causes of those symptoms. You can have a variety of illnesses, yet the ultimate causes may be the same.

After 26 years of practice, it is upsetting to hear that any patient would not take the time to understand why I have recommended their specific diet. This is especially disturbing since I encourage patients to email me at no charge with any questions or concerns they may have, which is especially critical when undertaking new dietary modifications, and to understand how their food choices affect their health and symptoms.

I am saddened when a patient does not take advantage of this free email service, and dismisses my advice because the recommendations may be challenging.

I believe that nothing worth having is easy, and I apply this to good health as well. Unfortunately, there is no magic pill that can undo decades of damage that have occurred at the point when your body actually declares its “dis-ease” through uncomfortable symptoms and/or conditions.

I have made the choice to have a small clinic, with just the two of us managing the office. This allows me to keep my visit fees low and offer a free initial consultation (approx. 30 mins) to new patients, compared to approximately $300 for a typical naturopath first visit. I am upsetting my profession by doing this, however, this is my first of many pure intentions.

I practice because I want to share my knowledge and teach my patients that they can control their health with strategic changes. The body has an amazing ability to heal itself. We just have to identify and treat the underlying causes, treat the whole person, and harness the healing power of nature. After 26 years of practice, I am still excited when patients embark on their health journey, because it can be so life changing, and my motivated patients will attest to that, wholeheartedly.

Detox from changing the diet and taking supplements to heal the underlying issues can cause one to feel worse before better, as the liver and fat release toxins. The severity of this Herxheimer reaction may depend on how toxic one is, however persistence pays off.

I make myself available 24/7 by email at no charge with any questions or concerns patients may have, which is especially critical when undertaking new dietary modifications. Often emotional support is also required. Motivated patients take advantage of this email courtesy because they want to get better, and are willing to sacrifice to do so. I am saddened when patients give up on their health journey prematurely, and often see these patients years later when their health deteriorates further.

My commitment to my patients prompted me to create a professional nutraceutical line that I personally research, design, formulate, and manufacture, in Canada, and license with Health Canada. This provides my patients and other naturopathic physicians with hypoallergenic, potent therapeutic strength formulations to assist healing, as we are only as good as the tools we have.

These supplements are reasonably priced considering they are professional grade nutraceuticals. I educate patients to understand the importance of quality assurance verification for purity, strength, safety and hypo-allergenicity, through independent, third party laboratory testing. Most products rely solely on in-house or manufacturer’s testing.

As a naturopathic physician, I treat the most chemically sensitive, allergic and immunocompromised patients. I empathize with most of my patients because it is a healing journey that I have also been on for many years. My health challenges with various autoimmune diseases has helped me to become a more experienced, supportive, compassionate doctor.

Food allergies can indirectly influence many parts of the body through several mechanisms, although it's important to understand that these relationships can be complex and may not be the same for every individual. Food allergies may play a role with the body’s stress response, gut health, thyroid function, inflammation, weight gain through fat accumulation, sleep quality and liver function.

I am thrilled with my results. My dermatologist wanted to put me on Accutane for my cystic acne after multiple rounds of antibiotics didn’t work. I did not like the side effects listed so I found a naturopath. I want to cry thinking about it as Dr. Jiwani helped me fix my skin in months! I have been battling severe cystic acne for over twenty years, and am frustrated that the medical profession cannot see the benefits of naturopaths. It is definitely not easy to change your lifestyle, but absolutely worth it. I have learned things about health that I can carry forward and share with my family. My best friend is now seeing her for arthritis and is very impressed with her compassion, accessibility and advice.

My body fell apart two years ago once I turned forty. It started with the fatigue, then the body aches and then eczema. Not a few little patches of itchy skin, I mean quickly spreading all over, itchiness that drove me so crazy, I would scratch until I was oozing and bleeding. I did the medical route from changing my laundry & body soaps to cortisone creams to prednisone. I did the allergist’s skin scratch tests showing nothing. I cried to Dr. Jiwani in our first visit from frustration, and she kindly explained why it was happening and how we would help it. I felt so much better knowing our plan. I started the supplements prescribed and awaited further treatment, and by the next visit my eczema and itchiness had improved 25%. Once I got my results and changed my diet I started to see huge changes in my skin. The itchiness was way down and my darkened alligator skin was softening, healing and looking normal. It has been six months later and I have no more eczema. I got my groove back, lost 15lb and belly fat. I feel twenty again. I am indebted to you Dr. Jiwani!

I was diagnosed with low thyroid decades ago, but I wasn’t really helpfully treated until I saw Dr. Jiwani. I now understand that there are so many factors that affect thyroid, you can’t just pop a pill! Once I got my thyroid healthier, wow I felt like a different person, looked it too. The sad part is I did not know this for 30 years! Get educated it makes a world of difference, and let Dr. Jiwani guide you as she has the knowledge and experience.

I looked for a naturopath once I started getting hives from taking biologics for my rheumatoid arthritis. I was frustrated having tried different drugs over the years and felt no support from my rheumatologist except take antihistamines. I found Dr. Jiwani from her autoimmune experience and knew from the first visit that I was in good hands. Since the arthritis was now attacking all of my joints, I had been really suffering as the pain prevented me from enjoying life, and being active. I can’t believe how quickly I started to feel better, and my labs showed it. Now I am mostly pain free unless I stray from my plan, and back to hiking and beach walks.
