I don't understand these other reviews! He was thorough, kind, patient, dealt with me interrupting him lol. He was able to recognize my issues based on my past experience I mentioned in the intake and made me feel very validated. He offers lots of resources on his website for people who are struggling and I believe that level of effort shows he really cares.

I want to preface this by saying that I did receive an ADHD diagnosis from Dr. Emes. My opinion and rating are entirely based on the way that he handled the appointment, and based on my own experience with him. He has several good reviews, and I have no doubt that he has helped several of his patients. However, due to the way that my own appointment went, I want to make sure that I can offer a balanced perspective to anyone else who may not relate to all of these reviews.

First of all, to anyone who has an appointment with Dr. Emes-- do not take the questionnaire lightly. It seemed as though that was all that my diagnosis was based on, since he diagnosed me within five minutes of the appointment. Unlike some of the other reviews imply, you don't need physical copies of your report cards (I'm a full adult, definitely don't have those lying around.) However, it is very important that you mention any symptoms that occurred in childhood. Be detailed. I wrote literal paragraphs in the questionnaire to make sure that I got all of the info across.

My main concerns with Dr. Emes were:

- He didn't take the time to assess me in person (even through the app.) I trusted the diagnosis due to my own research as well as a family history of ADHD, plus because I was so detailed in the questionnaire.

- After the diagnosis, he referred me to his website for some helpful tips and tricks, and name-dropped a medication that I had already heard of. When he asked me if I had any further questions, and I tried to ask what my next steps were (I had concerns about medicating due to other health conditions, but have tried everything listed on his website time and time again, and these methods do help, but I am still very much in need of more help. I wasn't necessarily looking for medication, only where to go next and what options could be worth exploring.) He waved me off, telling me that all of my concerns should be brought to my doctor. When I explained that I, like everyone else in BC, don't have a family doctor, he basically just told me to try to book with the random teledoctor that had referred me and hope for the best. That is paraphrasing, but he was dismissive and unhelpful.

I left the appointment somehow feeling even more lost and hopeless than I had prior to the diagnosis. The entire appointment was under 15 minutes long. I was left with a link to his website and no follow-up appointment, plus no clue about where to go next for help.

Since I've done a lot of work to get to a place where I was even able to go through the steps of getting a referral/diagnosis, I have been somewhat able to work things out myself. Even so, my mental health took a massive hit after this appointment, even with the diagnosis. If you feel dismissed or lost after your appointment with him, I would recommend seeking a second opinion and doing your best to get the help you need.

I cannot overstate how happy I was with Dr. Emes. I was fortunate enough to have familiarized myself with the process of being diagnosed with ADHD so I was able to show up with relevant records to demonstrate that my ADHD symptoms that I was describing began prior to the age of 12 so I didn't run into challenges with my diagnosis. He was great and I wish I wasn't struggling so much with my other issues when I was able to join the group sessions he previously offered (but are not currently a part of his practice as I understand it).

Dr Emes did not consider any of my current symptoms/struggles as I didn't have any of my childhood report cards to demonstrate early attention issues even after explaining I was in a learning assistance program all throughout elementary school. He was dismissive because I had no documentation. I am a young adult now and I don't keep report cards from when I was a child. Left me feeling lost and shameful.

His whole Process was fantastic. As a person with adhd, you receive tons of reminders and notifications (which was great and needed) staff is very friendly and dr Emes is kind and patient.
He also informed me that if what he was saying was "too much" that he had tons of info on his page. All the info is well laid out and clear. Made absorbing the info much easier.

This guy knows ADHD personalities. The assessment process, including the form (with the encouraging comments and humorous reminders), email and text reminders all made the steps easy to follow. The meeting was fast, but he was prepared. He had already reviewed all my file and gave me feedback right away. Most of the time I asked questions and he gave me advise and ideas on what to do. Highly recommend getting an assessment with Dr. Emes. Its hard to get a referral through to his office as he is already quite full. Keep trying... well worth it.

Recently diagnosed with ADHD. As a female who has experienced trauma, I knew that getting a diagnosis would be tough but he seemed to see it straight away. Without knowing my experiences of trauma, he also identified PTSD. I cannot describe how validating this was.

On receiving the treatment plan, my family doctor wasn't exactly fantastic, I mean you can drag a horse to water but you can't force it to drink but that was of no fault or consequence of Dr Emes. I am absolutely thrilled that in a sea of healthcare providers that do not understand neurodiversity, we have this amazing resource that he provides. I am so grateful to him.

I think I waited 3, but maybe it was 4wks for an appointment after he finally received the referral form that my doctor's practice held on to. I enquired with him when I didn't hear anything and he got straight back to let me know that his office had not received my paperwork. He/his office is very efficient.

Dr. Emes is wonderful! He was so kind, patient, knowledgeable and helpful. He has a website with a ton of resources that he directed me to so that I can go through all that information when I'm ready and if I forget anything I can always go back and it's all organized and easy to access. The biggest difference between him and other specialists I noticed is that he took the time to read my intake assessment before our appointment so he was well prepared for our conversation and I never had to repeat all the info on that form. But a heads up if you have to complete that form: it is LONG but seems like it's worth it to take your time so that he has all the info before your appt

I only dealt with Dr. Emes himself, so not sure if he has staff. He was exceptionally kind, reassuring and very knowledgeable about ADHD. He did a thorough job of explaining my diagnosis and his website is full of helpful resources. Highly recommend his services. He provides support to my Dr. as needed.

I'm super surprised Craig Emes has 4.5 star rating. He did diagnose me which was super important. But that's all he did . He said just go back to my doctor and all the recommendations are sent to my gp. So basically my life is still shattered upside down , it's been 4 years now. And I'm still just totally dysfunctional. Great phyciatrist thanks a lot .
