Excellent doctor specializing in complex cases for spine and brain. He did a great job with my husband's complex spinal tumor and we're grateful to have found him!

Very strange visit. We had seen Dr Chen 2 years ago and opted out out of surgery. The pain has gotten so severe that we were willing to go back. He did not make us feel welcome at all. He asked us why we were back. I mentioned that I had taken the time to show my father videos and convince him to do the surgery to avoid being paralyzed. He asked which videos and I told him YouTube. He said that he only uses a traditional approach and the YouTube videos were endoscopic. He then told me that I could go to Cedar-Sinai or UCLA to do endoscopic. I explained that we were merely watching the videos because we were in the waiting room, waiting to be called in. My father has been a patient there for 15 years and I would like him to continue his care at the City of Hope, not go to UCLA. When I asked him which procedure he would do, he named the procedure quickly and told me to go watch YouTube. I asked him several questions about recovery, and surgery time and he brushed me off every time. He told me to do my research on YouTube. I don't know if he's a good surgeon but he needs to get his head out of the clouds. We are all human and deserve respect especially if an old man is there begging you to help him with his severe pain. He needs to understand that people are not nearly tissues that are operated on. Not everyone is fearless of surgery. I left dazed, confused, upset, & amazed at his lack of bedside manner. Aside from this, it was a 2 hour wait to be seen.

After many years and appointments with 5 different neurosurgeons, we had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Mike Chen. He was the first doctor that instilled such a sense of confidence in us, that we agreed to go through with my husband's spine tumor removal surgery. Now that the successful surgery is behind us, I can confidently confirm that Dr. Chen lives up to his well deserved reputation as a brilliant, highly skilled, effective, and compassionate neurosurgeon. He is the absolute best! Moreover, his nurse practitioner, Grace Wu, stands in a league of her own as well when it comes to intelligence, compassion, and going above and beyond the call of duty!

I can not even describe the amount of gratitude I have for this man. I was diagnosed with a spinal tumor last year during the summer time. I never Imagined that this could happen to me and I was scared out of my mind. I was sent to another neurosurgeon at first and then sent to Dr. Chen's office for a second opinion. After spending my time with Dr. Chen, I knew immediately that I wanted him to perform the surgery. He answered all my questions and took the time to really put my fears at ease. I went through the surgery and was able to walk on my own in about 8 days, unbelievable for the kind of surgery I went through. My scar looks absolutely amazing and almost blends in with the rest of my skin. Dr Chen is also one of the most down to earth kind of guys I have met and has a great amount of compassion for his patients. I can say with out hesitation that if any one needs any serious neurosurgery done, that Dr. Chen is the man you want.

For almost a year, I have been a patient of Mike Chen, M.D., a neurosurgeon who is located at the City of Hope in Duarte. I went to him because of unrelenting pain in my back. My insurance company had refused to authorize treatment other than back rubs. Dr. Chen went to work, found a way to get me treatment including surgery. The surgery was an immediate and unqualified success. The pain which I had been having was eliminated having me able to engage in my normal activities. Thumbs up to Dr. Chen!
