My daughter had an appt recently with Dr. Vance. She was thorough in her exam, she spent a full hour between the the medical history and physical exam. She is a very old school doctor, one that is slowly becoming extinct, and I hope her fellows are paying close attention to her methods. She is extremely intelligent, explaining each result with evidence to back up her treatment plan. I highly recommend her for any Neuro-Endocrinology need.

Dismissive, disrespectful, impatient, and cuts you off. Crosses her arms, rolls her eyes and , shakes her head when you “try” talking to her. Her mind is made up the minute she walks in the door. The fellow literally apologized for her atrocious behavior when she left the room. Felt like I was the twilight zone. A yr later, I underwent surgery and now in remission for cushings. If you’re not a case book patient, she’s not going to “waste her time” trying to work through the complexity. My referring endo said he’s never sending another patient to her, and not the first “horror story” he’s heard.

I was referred to Dr. Vance by my Endocrinologist for her to review the diagnosis that I had been given and seek treatment with the Neurosurgeon. Before arriving, I was fully open to additional testing or imaging if it were needed.

Upon explaining why I was there Dr. Vance cut me off mid-sentence, told me I didn't have the disease I was diagnosed with and told me that I didn't have a Pituitary tumor. I assumed the radiologist at UVA had reviewed it and told her this (more on that at the end)

She then continued to invalidate my Endocrinologists' decision, my lab results by stating that my high results were lab errors (she didn't even count some), and invalidated the competence of the original radiologist who did the MRI and found the tumor. The entire appointment was used to invalidate all of my symptoms to be told that I am just fat and need to go on weight watchers.

Her arrogance was displayed the moment she first cut me off, and her inability to listen to a patient or allow them to ask questions without "losing her patience", as she put it, was disappointing. The most disappointing part was how she got upset anytime I tried to discuss my other symptoms and completely dismissed them as I tried to explain them.

I've never met a doctor so obsessed with being right and stroking thier own ego that they neglect to even show an ounce of compassion for what the patient must be experiencing to have sought help in the first place. My husband and I both took off work and drove 3 hours to see her just for me to be treated like this the second she walked into the room. I was treated like a pebble in her shoe. Fortunately, I have a 2nd opinion at John Hopkins.

I now believe, based on this experience, that Dr. Vance only diagnoses florid cases of Cushings and does not believe in cyclical, maybe because cyclical takes too much time and is very hard to diagnose. Maybe it's also because it wouldn't help her track record. I say this because I tried to talk to her about it and that's when she shut me down. My Endocrinologist said I'm cyclical.

Dr. Vance shouldn't be practicing anymore with an attitude that displays impatience, intolerance, gaslighting, negligence, disrespect, and a grotesque ineptitude of listening skills. Some of the remarks she occasionally makes are inappropriate as well.

I found out that the day AFTER my visit with her the radiologist at UVA had finally reviewed my MRI images after Dr. Vance told me I didn't have a tumor. They found my Pituitary tumor and a Craniopharyngeal duct. I'll be taking that report with me right to John Hopkins and never returning to Dr. Vance again. I hoped to be writing a positive review but this experience was absolutely atrocious.

Dt. Vance is one of the most knowledgeable physicians I've met with regards to Cushing's Disease. I had a very complicated case and was sent to her to try and figure my issues out. Her professionalism and experience was amazing. Highly highly recommended and I can never thank her enough. 2 years in remission from Cushing's Disease!

she will not spend a minute of her time unless your labs are overwhelming supportive of a diagnosis -- she is rude and arrogant. if you want to keep your mental health in check DO NOT see this woman - she has her own issues apparently. Her rudeness is so incredibly overt, I can't fathom how she still has a job.

I would give her 10 stars! I recommend her to anyone. I fly to UVA just to see her for pituitary. Her knowledge alone is worth 10 stars!

I literally had this woman tell me she didn't know & received a doctors bill later. What a waste. Her mannerism is barbaric!
It's time for retirement! Find another physician!

She is absolutely amazing! She is very knowledgeable and her line of work. she's very caring about all her patients. Yes she is old school and can come off a little rude, but I wouldn't want anyone else taking care of me. This woman is absolutely amazing and caring. Her students are very thankful to have her, and her patients are very lucky to be able to have such a caring compassionate doctor.

Yes she's experienced and been around a long, LONG time. But this has it pros and its cons. A dr MUST be open minded and willing to consider other ideas or they become stale and ineffective. If they only treated the seriously, obviously sick and didn't take the time to investigate nuances in a situation that is not "text book", we'd all be in a heap of trouble. She has her ideas and no one is going to sway them, regardless of how credible the info is - she's the proverbial example of doctors who don't care or want) to change, even as medicine evolves. She misdiagnoses A LOT - I know two people who she blew off in the last year regarding hormone producing pituitary tumors -- only to have them go to another dr months laterto get a confirmed diagnosis and consequent surgery. As well, she can be rude and condescending with no provocation -- for something as simple as asking her a question. She has clearly lost sight of any perspective but her own. She upset my poor, sweet mother and was all I could do to restrain myself My mother is the nicest person you'd ever meet and just because she asked questions, Dr Vance became sarcastic and belittling. I think this probably speaks to her state of her own personal happiness. I wonder if she has anything in her life besides her job. #psch101
