As soon as I walked into the room, he tried to offer to give me a shot in my head to get rid of my headache. He did not ask me any questions about what was bringing me in, how long I’ve been experiencing the symptoms, or any background information. He didn’t review any of my paperwork that I submitted including my ER discharge paperwork or referral from PCP or Cardiologist. He spent less than five minutes in the room with me and that time was spent telling me about the shot he can give me, some trial spray that he accosted my nose with, and telling me if I “just want a referral to get an MRI then he would provide one but it’s up to insurance to decide to cover”. The ER, Cardiologist and PCP all referred me to be seen by a neurologist and the only thing he did was “push meds” versus actually listening and treating the patient.

I was referred to Dr Yu after 2 years of Mri"s X'rays, and every test known to man for a back problem that had haunted me for years. I wanted new films as my pain had increasibly continued to get worse after no diagnosis was determined. I was greeted by a man who seemed to be in a rush to hear my story, after being 1/2 late. He asked me what i was suffering from, I explained, and he continually interrupted me as I was talking. I told him that my pain had gotten worse, and I said I'd like to know the root of my problem, and he replied, there isn't always a root to a problem!
I came in with a list of questions that i could not address, as he continued in a harsh demeanor to continue to talk over me. I found him very Condescending, and Abrupt! He did prescribe a Med that has helped with the pain, but I would never recommend this Doctor, as their are many doctors out there that has some compassion and empathy for us who continue to suffer with chronic pain and no answers.

Saw Dr Kan a few times last year. He seemed knowledgeable on his next plan for my testing but needs some work caring for people. When going to see him, I was going through so much before seeing him so I had alot to go over. While going through it, his responses where fast and repeating "anything else", "anything else","anything else". And then when I asked if he had a chance to review my brain MRI, he comes back in a rush, and on his lab top opens it and literally flips through my scans faster then I can comprehend what I was looking at and information he gave. I could imagine Drs here complaints all day but I guess i expected him to show a little understanding or sympathy since my life basically made a huge turn leaving me out of work off and on for weeks and unable to care for my family and little ones at home, most days. I was basically an emotional wreck when seeing him anxious for some comfort of some sort before walking out of there. It was also like, dont ask wont tell. So getting information was hard because since I've never gone through this before I didnt know what questions to ask and walking out of their I was more confused then i was walking in. He did prescribe me with the proper medication to help with numbness and did say I needed a follow up for an MRI a yr from then, which is the basics that all other neuros I've seen are following based off my symptoms. He was very rush rush with his speech and getting answers and when I told him I was confused because I have never gone through this before and asked if theres anything I should do in the meantime, like natural supplements or home remedies to help with comfort with my symptoms. He responded by crosses his arms smiles at me and says "ok what do you think you should do?". Deal breaker for me. I definitely did not need that, after all the stress life has hit me with this far. Knowledgeable yes, but I definitely need someone who makes time to really listen and understand all that I am going through and shows they want to help. I really hope he gets batter with all this. Good luck Dr Kan.

I have been seeing Dr. Yu for 6 months now and could not be more pleased. He cares for his patients and is very knowledgeable and willing to help. I normally do not write reviews for anything however after seeing what others had written about him not caring and not taking time I just had to set the record straight… Dr. Yu does take the time needed with each patient. I have never left there feeling that he rushed me of didn’t answer all my concerns. I have had 6 spinal surgeries and have seen many doctors about headaches and nerve pain and only Dr. Yu has been able to help. I would highly recommend him... After seeing our family Doctor and having MRIs of the brain for headaches and smelling smoke with nothing found My wife also went to see him. Once he looked at the MRI images he noticed that her pituitary gland looked like it had a growth and sent her to Barrows. This is something the radiologist and family doctor had missed... It just shows again how good Dr. Yu is at his job.

I agree with the Aug 16, 2014 poster--"Dr. Yu isn't a bad doctor but he is very fast, very confusing and seems to contradict himself often." Dr. Yu seems very knowledgeable, and I am comfortable with his diagnosis and treatment. However, conversations are certainly challenging. I have to repeat what he has said to clarify--and frequently what I thought I'd heard was not what he had actually meant. This seems to be due to his rapid-fire thought and speech pattern.

Dr. Yu IS very nice and friendly and I went to Dr. Yu because I am Spinal Cord Injured and had been experiencing unexplained Autonomic Dysreflexia that was continually worsening. I had read some fabulous things about him and his Awards so thought he could help me. Every visit I felt like he really had no clue what to think or do about me. He finally ordered an MRI of my neck and reported that it looked fine. My last visit he asked how the pump in my back was working so I told him that I don't have a pump. That didn't even raise an eyebrow from him then he immediately asked if a certain medication I was (supposedly) on was working and I told him I'd never been on any such medication. That didn't phase him and he rolled right into his next statement. He wasn't looking at any file so I don't know who he thought I was. I wouldn't go back to him and a few months later his office called to say he would no longer see me bcuz my insurance changed to Medicare.
