It saddens me to see all these bad comments about Dr. Mace. When I went to him no one who help me because I weighed over 400 pounds but had a herniated disk pressing on two nerves: sciatic and the one that controls bowels/bladder. He took me on even tho the risk of hurting it again runs high unless I lose weight. I lost about 200 and when I went back in after having issues with a new disk be congratulated me on my health journey and helped me. Not only that, he’s done my moms back surgery and saved my dad’s life twice with brain surgery. He is also who caught the issue another Dr. at Hospital missed that eventually killed my cousin. He tried to correct Cunningham’s mistakes but it was too late. She was gone. He’s shown me and my family nothing but compassion. If you can’t handle blunt honesty, then maybe you might be a little to sensitive. I’d rather a doc give it to me straight than sugar coat it. Im about to return to him for another laminectomy soon. I know he will take care of me- he and his team always does!

I’ve had 10 surgeries in the last 4 years, and Dr. Mace has been my favorite surgeon. He performed 2. I had the opposite experience from the other people in these reviews. I’d been dismissed by other doctors, I went to Dr. Mace, he examined me and had me admitted to the ICU within two hours and booked to be in the operating room within 8 hours. He took the time to explain my condition and the procedure extensively, he answered all of my questions, and I never dealt with a PA. He even came to the hospital at 3am once when there was an issue with a new nurse administering my meds correctly, which I don’t think is standard for a neurosurgeon, it struck me as going the extra mile. He monitored me closely with follow up MRI’s, and I still go into his office every 6 months for a follow up and have had nothing but good experiences. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Mace thinks he's God. Very unfriendly. If you are overweight; then every problem you have is due to that issue. After having done my surgery; damaged a lymph node, no longer have stability or balance, & can't stand to lie on either side. Feels exposed, raw, & painful. Was friendly in hospital after surgery. Will not use him again.

If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all pretty much states my experience. However, I will state there is nothing in the other negative reviews that I can disagree with as they pretty much nail it.

This guy is a joke. I guess my wife's problem is above his wealth of knowledge because after reviewing her case would not even see her??? staff was rude and offered little or no help at all leading up to her rejection.....very frustrating and a total waste of our time, DO NOT waste your time with this clown.......

As with most of these reviews, I was extremely disappointed with dr. Mace, first of all his practioner saw me first, which I understand, I know he must be a busy man, the practioner did the whole exam spoke to about what my problem was and told me , it could be fixed with a fusion, explain how serious the surgery would be , examined me, took all my medical history concerning my back, but did tell me dr.? Mace would go over that with me, dr mace discounted most of what I was trying to say, and only commented on 3 or questions he had, he also wanted a couple other tests and records on my back history, and lectured me he would run nicotine tests to see if I was smoking, told, I'm more than willing to stop, I already had, he was either very rude or has 0 bed side manner or concern for patiens during the whole time, I had a page of questions for him but knew after talking to him , that wasn't gonna happen, he couldn't get there fast enough, I was told he was reputable, if been to a few specialist for things, and no dr has ever been so rude, uncaring, and simply seemed he wasn't present to me at all, this guy seems miserable or can't handle his case load, COLD, COLD, this is strictly my opinion, but after looking at other reviews, I have to agree with the majority, I thought I was going to see Dr. John Mace , who had excellent reviews, i waited 2 and half months for this appointment, so sad , it was a waste, of time, would like all my records from nurse mellisa

Dr. Mace performed my lumbar fusion surgery in December and I am very pleased with the results 3 months later. The staff and nurses and helpers were all very friendly during my 3 day stay at Cox South Neuro Center. I would highly recommend him.

I didn't like Dr. Mace, when he was talking to me he had this uncertainty look on his face when he told me I didn't need surgery but he did say it was a major surgery and his PA done all the work. Doctor is LAZY and DON'T CARE. I found me a doctor in Little Rock and he told me if I didn't have the surgery I would be paralyed cause the arachnoid cyst was compressing 3/4 of the way on my spinal cord so I had the surgery in Little Rock in April 2017 still recovering and still hurting but not as bad as I was before surgery I am doing better just a matter of time. I guess that is what Dr. Mace was waiting on is me being paralyed.

Dr Mace did my back surgery in October 2016 have been in pain since. When you try to explain to him your pain he doesn't even look at you. I said I wished I never had the surgery and he said "I wish I had never done the surgery ". How do you like I felt after that. Mike his pa does all the work. I think even the surgery. He knows more about you then the doctor. So sad. I worked for neurosurgeons. They make him look like a butcher
