I was a patient of Dr Spanos for over a decade. He is a highly intelligent physician that spends a tremendous amount of time with his patients. Spanos truly cares about his patients. He was my PCP.

I feel I must address the negative comments. Clearly these folks were likely NEVER treated by Spanos. For the record, I DO NOT take or am I prescribed an opioid medication. Nor am I a current patient of Spanos so I have no incentive to leave this positive review other than it’s the right thing to do.

When Dr Spanos went into semi retirement, it was just easier to have my records transferred to a UNC PCP. Spanos worked with UNC to ensure a seamless transfer. The one medical issue that I was having when Spanos treated is no longer an issue now. I see my PCP annually unless I get sick. I am a formal top 100 executive turned competitive athlete so I also have a sport’s medicine Dr / PT that I see when acute injuries may arise. By & large, I’m in the best shape of my life & a national champion in my sport & Dr Spanos has contributed to my well being over the years. Beyond treating my medical issues, he encouraged me to add running to my daily training & it helped tremendously. Even though my current PCP is awesome, my loyalty will always be with Dr Spanos. I would switch back to him in a New York minute if he came out of retirement. My entire would do the same. We trust Dr Spanos that much.

As a side bar, it’s not the 1990s anymore. Conventional medical wisdom has evolved thru the years & it will continue to do so. Reputable doctors did the best with what they knew & what they were taught at the time. When you know better, you do better. That said, Opiates/ opioids are still the best option for high levels of pain. Physicians have to evaluate the risk vs. benefits, just as they would with any treatment plan. Unfortunately it’s good drs like Dr Spanos that are left holding the bag. All of that said, OxyContin was & is an excellent medication & there are good uses for the drug. I personally took the meds for years. When the underlying condition causing my pain was resolved, I tapered off the opioids. It was painless. The key is slow & steady wins the race. As always physicians along with the patients input evaluate the benefits vs the risks when prescribing any meds. I would totally trust Dr Spanos to treat anyone in my family.

This man is a disgusting specimen of a human being with no regard for others, no conscience or respect for the sanctity of life. He’s a disgrace to humanity, lacks any modicum of moral decency
and people like him should be behind bars, the public need to be protected from such predators. I’m appalled that he is still allowed to practice medicine, let alone walk free.

This dirtbag is responsible for helping Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family addict thousands of people on Oxycontin. Many people overdosed or lost their jobs, homes and families due to addiction. This devil chose to sell his soul to make money while preying on people in pain.

He should not have a medical license.

Dr. Spanos takes only patients with connective tissue disorders as that is his speciality. He does not have a staff and answers his phone calls himself. Due to distance, I have only been to him a few times, but he thoroughly addresses my tissue disorder (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) and even answers emails that I send to him since I am not nearby. There are very few doctors who know as much as he does about this disorder and I am very appreciative of his knowledge. He is a very good communicator, straight to the point, and is willing to send correspondence to your family doctor if you live too far away to see him regularly.
