I had intermitent pain for 5 years in my hip. After 5 years, it got worse and was unbearable for 80% of the time. I was a nurse for 30 years. I had to stop working due to a stroke which left me impaired in expressing myself and understand exactly what is being said. My MD referred me to a doctor that couldn't figure out if the pain was from my back or hip. He was terrible. My neighbor convinced me to see her back Dr., Her back Dr. referred me to Dr. Huntoon,(the wife), who refered me to her husband for injections. Mrs. Dr Huntoon was wonderful.
When I arrived at the appointment, the nurse Dana was awesome. Then a Dr. came in for me to sign a consent. For some reason, my contrast allergy did not show in their paperwork. I explained that his wife prescribed me prednisone which I took and in the past, had no problems with. He came in with another Dr. (now 3 Drs.) and questioned me about my past treatments. I said that I had a hip injection and he asked how I knew that and I said I watched it and the Dr. explained and showed me what he was doing. Dr. Huntoon laughed and said "in 30 years I never had a patient tell ME where their injection was" And he was actually mocking me! But quickly he went into the exam. When he pressed on my hip it was extremely painfull. I said "that is horrible pain!" I stopped his hand and he just kept on pressing. Again he quickly had me up on the table . After his exam, his student which he did not introduce as a student, examined me. They talked to each othe and decided on a different procedure then the one I was set up for. He said they were going to inject my SI joint. This confused me and I asked if he saw my MRI which said my SI joint was fine. Over the years, I had 4 Drs. and 4 X-rays and 2 MRIs that said my SI joints were normal. Now I was very confused. He was pompus and rude. In the treatment room I was placed on my stomach . He told me that I couldn't watch and my head needed to be down. Here's the kicker..he said to one of the Drs no contrast. NO CONTRAST! I was prepted for it. By now the needle was being inserted and I did could not express my concern about not using contrast. My body is precious to me and I didn't want a needle going in without contrast to make sure of the placement. The worst part was HE DIDN'T EVEN DO THE INJECTION!!! Here. he was teaching someone was not doing it correctly and he had to correct the student!! I was NEVER asked permission for an intern to do this. If it was in the consent, no one told me. I have been to plenty of teaching hospitals and they always truthfully introduce them as interns and ask for permission to be in the room and assist. I was always given the choice. Not with Dr. Huntoon. Here, an intern did the procedure with NO contrast to verify where the needle was placed and I certainly did not trust Dr. Huntoon. let alone some one I didn't even give permission to touch me. I am so upset that I never processed all of this to say no. You go to
Drs. with trust. I will never evermore. I don't care how much experience or how good he was. I do not trust somesome who treats me rudely and hands my procedure to someone else without my knowledge and permission.
