If you wish to understand Dr. Leong just read all of the reviews of him here. Some are enormously complimentary, some enormously critical. But in my view they provide the perfect picture of him. I read them before my first visit, and he came across exactly as described. I do not doubt he has world-class expertise in some areas of urology and lesser capabilities in others, which will readily explain the variations in ratings. At least one review suggested it is time for him to retire. It may be right. I sensed that any original keen enthusiasm to help people has long since waned and he is simply tired of doing dozens more DREs, day after day after day. I would not choose him as a urologist, but for those with issues different from mine he might be the perfect choice. (I do not regard staff or punctuality as seriously material issues. Both were satisfactory.)

Dr. Leong performed my surgery about a week ago and everything went very well. I found him quite professional and he answered all of my questions as well as walked me through what the surgery would consist of. Would recommend to others.

Which is greater, Leong's contempt for his patients or his ineptitude as a DR? When asked questions he either stares blankly, infers you're an idiot, or makes something up which is demonstrably false. After several complaints on one issue he as much as called me a liar. After talking to other Drs my confidence about his analysis & abilities has been ever more eroded. I have stupidly stuck it out with this hack because of my own deluded bias that "the DR always knows best" How wrong I've been. I'm not sure how much worse this guy has made things for our entire family, but he passed the Physician's creed of "first do no harm" a very long time ago.

He is an excellent doctor, punctual and helpful. He has good knowledge of kidney sicknesses. He did not perform surgery on me but provided very helpful answers for our questions on Ultrasound and CT scan images of my kidneys. Overall good doctor. recommend him for consultations to others.

Great Doctor! Wonderful ethics! Not a lot of doctors will call you in the evening to explain the entire procedure to you and ensures you understand the procedure. Great doctor! After the procedures he actually comes to see his patients to see if they're doing ok.

Dr. Leong operated on me twice and thoroughly explained why I was to limit my physical activities. And yes most Doctors think they are gods. And yes like most doctors he is overworked.

Was referred to Dr Leong by family physcian. It took about 3 & 1/2 months (April) to see him. I was seen about an hour later than my appointment for that day. I was told & booked for an October appointment, then in August, his secretary phones & tells me he will be away & will rebook me. Fine...since August, I have not been rebooked & no one has contacted me. I would not recommend this Dr or his secretary.

It's time to retire! Three generations of my family (my mother, myself and my son) have had Dr. Leong all for kidney stones. I had litho several years ago and was in excruciating pain during the procedure - he refused to give me any pain medication. He was annoyed and told me I couldn't be in that much pain and couldn't I just hold on he would be done soon! My mother lost a kidney after he waited so long to operate and found it mulched to hamburger from stones - he still tried to repair it and within weeks she was back in surgery and had to have the kidney taken out. My son had huge kidney stones (10 mm) Dr. Leong put him under, inserted a stent and sent him home. Anyone who has had stones knows you can't pass a 10mm stone by yourself and we ended up taking him into emergency not 3 weeks later where another Urologist removed them. Many years ago he was the top "go to" Urologist and you were made to feel lucky if you could get into see him. He is a brilliant man he should teach!

As others have said, very little "bedside manner". If you are likely to be put off by that, find another urologist. I got past it however, and he seemed fairly reasonable and knowledgeable. He was not overly forthcoming with details or information, so be prepared to ask your own questions to get specifics. Also, he did not seem interested in talking about other options for my problem, he presented the solution and when I asked about other possibilities I got shut down (not rudely though). Overall, I trust him as a urologist, but I wouldn't go to him for uplifting encouragement. Which is convenient, because he's a urologist, not a life coach.

After reading the previous comments, I have to say that Dr. Leong is a professional specialist. (However, his receptionist is a different story!) He answers my questions. And being a health care professional myself, patients do sometimes have many questions that come from all directions all at once. (Patients need to take into consideration the origins of literature that they read from and the possibility of bias or conflict of professional opinion) I personally had questions and he discussed a whole bunch of procedures and tests and I was about to write them all down! But then he told me that we would take it one step at a time; urine test- then those results will be reviewed before proceeding onto the next test which may be a cystoscopy OR ultrasound. So I'll take it easy. Waiting time is usually 10 min for me but that is probably b/c I book early in the day. His receptionist is not personable and total lack of eye contact. No smiling anyday. I'm not asking her to crack jokes either!
