Refused treatment of a trans man, “we are uncomfortable treating a patient with your condition”. This was after “losing his paperwork” and giving him the run around for a week. He was referred to a doctor an hour away.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Wiegand’s for over 17 years. This past visit was my last. For years, she’s treated my thyroid issues. I suspected insulin resistance about 10 years ago, but she claimed my labs were normal. I moved to Houston 7 years ago, and a doctor out there ran labs (she immediately suspected it). Sure enough, I was insulin resistant. I should have switched then but decided to make a trip home out of my visits. I’ve had times where I’ve waited over an hour, but she’s always been apologetic. I had an appointment last week and waited 30 minutes to get called back Then another 20 minutes for her to come in. There wasn’t an apology or explanation. Nothing.

I lost a significant amount of weight in 2020. I hit a plateau, and ever since, my body is gradually gaining at an alarming rate. I wanted to discuss this with her, but the minute I said, “I’ve talked with the doctors over my program about going back into ketosis,” she snapped with, “well, are you going to let your weight yo-yo the rest of your life? Ketosis and then what?” I wanted to cry - weight is a very sensitive topic for me, and on top of feeling like a failure because the scale was up, I was chewed out for something beyond my control. I rarely have fried food, I eat extremely healthy, and I limit my carbs. I explained to her that I have a rigorous workout program, to which she said, “that’s only 15% of it. Diet is 85%.” She didn’t ask me what I ate on a daily basis, nor did she try to provide medical advice with what I should do. There are prescription injections, and this doctor who specializes in endocrine systems and metabolism couldn’t even inform me about them. Instead, I got lectured.

To top it off, she asked if I had the vaccine. I’m waiting until I’m done having kids to do so - a choice that should be respected. She flew off the handle and told me I have to mask up and “any stats saying it affects fertility are hogwash.” I just said, “okay.” Im currently signing my medical release so I can go to a doctor who won’t force an opinion on me - and who will actually listen to my concerns. I’ve been insulin resistant for years - she never thought I was, but my OB when I first moved to Houston ran a panel and told me I was severely insulin resistant.

For being a specialist in metabolic medicine and diabetes, this is the last doctor I would recommend to anyone. The beauty of being her patient is I have the freedom to choose a medical provider who will listen to me. Thus, I’m doing what’s best for me and will switch to someone who gives a crap.

My Oncologist sent me here to get help with my Thyroid. Dr. Weigand was awesome and amazing. Great bedside manners, sweet, sincere, accommodating, and explained what was going on with my thyroid so that I could understand.

Visiting her office is a pleasant experience, none of that medical-industrial complex treatment so common at other medical venues today. You feel comfortable from the time you walk in until you walk out and every time your treatment's explained in detail until you are satisfied you know what's going on.
My condition is under control and I am confident that if I continue to be treated/monitored by the doctor and staff it will remain so. I have the choice to use Dr Weigand or the staff at a large hospital nearby and choose to stay with her.

Dr Wiegand's been treating my diabetes for about two years now. She's VERY thorough and takes a personal interest in her patients. She's managed to get my A1C back into normal range but still keeps trying to tweak it to get it lower. She's even managed to find and improve two conditions my primary care physician overlooked, one a serious one. She also talks TO the patient and not AT the patient - important to me.
Her staff is polite and helpful and whenever I call with a question I always get a treply within 24 hours or, if I call on a Friday, I'll hear from them on Monday. And yes, your appointment time may not be when you get in but the depth of her treatment means she spends more time with pasients if they need it. You may have to wait but if you need extra time you know you'll get it.

Was my Doctor for 12 years due to my not researching other options. On several occasions had to wait 1 to 1-1/2 hrs to see her after my scheduled appointment! On one occasion I waited 45 minutes in the waiting room and then another 2 hrs in an exam room, just to have her peak into the room and say "Oh, I thought you left and went home" then sends a nurse to exam me. On more than one occasion she prescribed medicine to me that I discovered, after researching it, to be very dangerous and even deadly! I would NOT recommend this so-called "Professional" to anyone! She is only in it for the money!

I had an appointment on 10/9/17 for 3:00PM. I arrived at 2:30 and knew I would have to wait. At 2:40 another lady came in for a 2:45PM appointment. At 2:55 a lady walked in and wrote on appointment sign-in book her appointment time was for 3:00PM. Around 3:15 they called the lady back who arrived at 2:55 for a 3:00PM appointment. I asked the receptionist why she was called back before me and the lady who had a 2:45 appointment and she told me she actually had an appointment for 2:20 but was running late. The receptionist then proceeded to close the glass window in my face. The patient probably called and told the office she was running late and indicated she could be there around 3:00 which is why she indicated her appointment time was 3:00. This is totally wrong! The other patient was also upset. So the way to work it is to call and say you are running late and you only have to wait 10 minutes in the waiting room. That lady should have waited 45 minutes to an hour because that is how long she would have waited if she had arrived at her original appointment time. I am blown away that a doctor who went to school for 8 - 10 years would allow an hourly office person to run their front office and run patients off. I already have an appointment with another doctor.
The other time I went there the wait was very long. I don't know how the other reviews gave a 5 for Punctuality unless only the good ones are posted.

My first visit as a referral was good. The Staff were friendly and efficient. The Dr. was very personable and extremely knowledgeable of Diabetes. She spent the better part of 50 minutes with me and asked many questions. At the end she made a recommendation, gave me some sample meds and scheduled a follow-up visit. I feel at ease with her and know that she will do her best to treat my Diabetes. Highly recommended.
