I received a letter in the mail letting me know that dr Masata was retiring. Immediately i made an appointment to see her before her last day at synergy. It was always a hit and miss with her. Sometimes her bedside manners were nice and friendly. Other times she made me feel like i was being a bother. She is very knowledgeable. She just needs to work on how she conducts herself. My last appointment I mentioned how sad I was that she was retiring. She just smiles and nodded. I found out about a year or so after she “retired” that she was still at synergy. I feel really hurt that she used her retiring as an excuse to let me go. My family was left without a doctor for a couple of years. Luckily I did manage to find a lovely doctor. But now. I feel like maybe the reasons I went to dr Masata weren’t important enough. Now I feel like “am I bothering my new doctor”? Heather the receptionist was 10/10. Always attentive. Always caring.

Wow. Where do i begin. She was nearly 15 minutes late to the appointment, and immediately treated me like i was so inconvenient to her. She was extremely rude. I did not know our call had a 10 minute time limit and I had a list of things I desperately needed. (took me 3 weeks to book this appointment). she kept rambling on about the things that did not matter and when we finally got to what i needed she cut me off and said our time was up, when i told her i really really need these things she said “well you should have said that at the start”. excuse me?? the most unprofessional doctors appointment i’ve ever had and i am so relieved i will NEVER go back to her again. Do not waste your time going to Dr. Hana Masata

Very knowledgeable and kind physician. I saw her with Telus healthcare and hope I have the opportunity to have follow up with her.

Wow - I'm trans and have two chronic illnesses that need to be managed and monitored, as well as mental health meds to keep on top of. I've experienced a lot of trauma in the healthcare system not having my pain or experience believed. Dr. Masata heard me, believed me, and gave me options to navigate next steps. Where she didn't know the answer to a question, she simply said 'Let's find out, shall we?' I feel empowered to make informed decisions about my health, and that's more than I've gotten elsewhere.

Kind, clear, and punctual. We get straight to the point and with a full-time job and dependents, that's a godsend. I'm keeping Dr. Masata as long as she'll have me!

Rude and dismissive, even threatened to hang up on me after accusing me of "disrespecting western medicine" - I assume because I work with a ND for my HRT. She was wrong about a couple things I requested her assistance with, refused to provide more clarity on her reasons for dismissing my concerns, and even tried telling me that an established protocol was not necessary in my case since my issues were "probably just hormones", when the protocol is in place because the exact symptoms are often a sign of cancer!

I was a patient of Dr. Masata for about 13 years. I appreciated having a family doctor in Victoria as I know it can be difficult to find one. I always found that Dr. Masata refused to refer me to a specialist for any of the issues I brought forth, despite going back for appointments for years. She refused to admit she didn't know everything ans often Googled medical issues during the appointment on her laptop. I certainly don't expect a GP to know everything about every condition, but I expect there to be a basic level of knowledge in order to determine if a referral is warranted. I have two chronic conditions, both requiring care from specialists, that I went to Dr. Masata about many, many times. I was never referred to a specialist until I found a new GP who referred me without question. Sadly both specialists agreed my conditions wouldn't be as bad had I been referred years prior. This is incredibly frustrating to hear, and I wish I trusted my gut and advocated for myself more with Dr. Masata.

She has poor bedside manner and can come across as cold and rude at times, but I honestly didn't mind this. I went to the doctor to try and resolve my ailments, not to have a conversation. I wouldn't rule out Dr. Masata as your doctor, especially if she is your only option but definitely consider advocating for yourself and trusting your gut if you think a referral is needed.

Too many people are looking for a friend when they are looking for a doctor. Worry more about their knowledge and abilities than if they asked you about your grandkids for 20 minutes.

At first she seemed a bit unfriendly, but she's possibly overwhelmed at times, it's a busy place.

Any time I've got an issue, she asks questions to figure out the problem.
If she wants to be sure she refers me to a specialist without any problem.
I've been a patient for a few years now and I also work with many doctors, all day, every day, I am pretty happy to have Dr Masata for my doc. She doesn't have the God complex that so many other doctors have. She's easy to talk to.
I've never been made to feel anything but helped after seeing her. I always feel listened to and not ignored.
The longest I've had to wait is maybe 15 minutes, it's usually less than 10 minutes.
The staff are friendly and professional, never screwed any of my stuff up....that I know of.
Overall, I'm happy with the services I have received from Dr Masata and her staff.

Dr. Masata needs to take a course on bedside manner, approachability, and empathy. She is severely lacking in those qualities. Not good with children - she got "resting b*tch face" (always appears grumpy & unapproachable). She has misdiagnosed my children & I multiple times.. and does a ton of googling while speaking to patients (I've seen her do this on her laptop in the exam room). She is also dismissive and downplays concerns, which I don't think anyone who has a medical issue would appreciate! She's been my family doctor for many years (only because there are no doctors in my area taking new patients). I'd rather go to walk in clinics at this point though! If you're looking for compassion, helpful & calm demeanor, and for someone who has a good rapport with children - Dr Masata is NOT the doctor for you.

Dr Masata has been my Dr for a very long time, and until a couple of years ago, my husband’s as well.

My husband had complex, ever-changing medical challenges and needs, requiring referrals, explorations, constant blood work – the list goes on. I have had my own recent challenges.

Through EVERY step of the way, Dr Masata has been considerate, compassionate, explaining (often more than once, in great detail) what is happening/is needed and why. She has reached out to each of us when we had particular challenges and she even bent over backwards checking in and offering extra help/support.

And, on top of all this, we have her wonderful, caring MOA, Heather, as an integral part of the care offered.

I cannot imagine having been through any of this without out Dr Masata’s (or Heather’s) care and empathy. And what’s more, she has a quietly wicked sense of humour! If there were more than 5 stars to this rating, Dr Masata would have it from me – and my husband.

Simply put Dr. Masata is almost cruel. I understand being business like but she is rude and often does nothing to help.
