Ear Infections Contagious?
Submitted by braddly on Wed, 11/04/2009 - 13:29.
On Monday I discovered I have another ear infection. This morning I show up at work and my coworker noticed me taking my meds that were prescribed for my ear infection. She then asked me what it was for. I said an ear infection. She then sent me home stating if I was to stay at work she could catch my ear infection and then she would get H1N1. I am very upset by this. I don't believe ear infections are contageous. I have had them all my life. I have never let them intrupt my daily living and it's not something new. Anyone with thoughts on this?

That is the strangest thing
That is the strangest thing I have heard of in quite a while.
Do you share a headset? If not, I see no reason to send you home.
Will you be paid for your time? As you were sent home, you should be paid.
Will the time off count against you? If not, just make notes to protect yourself and get better.
Braddly, I've never heard of
Braddly, I've never heard of such a thing! Quite often, when my son was younger, our family doctor would comment, "but your son is prone to ear infections, so . . . " Never once did he say to keep him home because of them, or worry that it was contagious. I think your employer (it was your employer, wasn't it???) over-reacted to the H1N1 scare. If it wasn't your employer or immediate supervisor, then I would contact them and tell them what happened and see what they say. JMHO
I have called my doctors
I have called my doctors office and the receptionist is getting Tanja to write me a note saying ear infections are not contageous and you can not get H1N1 from them. The note will also state that I am totally fine to be there. I will be returning tomorrow and this time if she tries to send me home I will have the doctors note. If she still tries to send me home then I am making a formal complaint to the boss!
Update: My doctor wishes to see me before she will write a note. So I will see her on Friday!
Please keep us posted. I
Please keep us posted. I hope you feel better soon.

"i smell bacon.. baconbaconbaconbacon,.. give me whats in the bag".. "dogs dont know its not bacon"...LMAO
Oh My! I wonder if my
Oh My! I wonder if my co-worker will stumble on this site and find this thread if she does...LOL Now as for Bacon...I prefer not eat it. Not because of H1N1 but because it's so salty. However if I were to have beets for dinner with bacon and onion then I would. You chop the bacon really small. It's my favourite to have.
Now I think my co-worker is
Now I think my co-worker is just plain paranoid! I'm telling you everytime some dies and it is in the news she tells us about it! Then she elabrates on it that she will die if she gets it and how we need to protect ourselves. We must wash our hands every ten minutes if not she will get H1N1... I am afraid to pick up a tissue at work because I am worried she'll send me home...I better not walk in with a runny nose because it was cold outside!
Now this would be and will
Now this would be and will be funny, if you have not lost a days pay.
I see the episode of Seinfeld, where Elaine's Co worker is turned off by her germs....
and she takes her stapler and tucks it under her armpit and rubs the woman's keyboard across her backside.
I'd come in and pass out some nice pens, and when she asks, where you got them...
"Oh, from the nice leper on the corner".
That's the most asinine
That's the most asinine thing I've ever heard.
If you have an HRS department I'd complaint, if you're forced to use a sick day/vacation day. She sent you home for a totally baseless, unsubstantiated reason.
Well Harley, tomorrow I will
Well Harley, tomorrow I will hopefully have the doctors note so we will see what happens after that. If she still says I can't come to work then I will complain to the boss and say I have a note that says I am okay to work.
