I personally worked for Dr.Masessa. I worked at the Toms River, NJ, And Manahawkin, NJ locations. All of these negative reviews are from people who don't understand anything and only,want to complain. Your insurance tells you everything can be done in one visit (surgeries) because they only have to pay for one which leaves YOU with the remaining Bill (so really he's saving you from having to pay). As far as follow ups are concerned we make you come back multiple times to make sure you are healing ok.there is always a chance something could happen so we want to make sure you are healing properly and you get fast attention if not. the PA'S. That are in our office have all undergone years of working directly next to the doctor himself So They know exactly what is going on. They are,trained better than doctors while in school for those of you too ignorant to give them the time of day because they don't have,M,D, after their name. The doctor is in and out because he has surgeries to get,to. If you've had skin cancer you would appreciate a doctor who would spend more time getting it out than sit in a room doing nothing with someone else. Dr. masessa and his staff are very well trained and we know what were,doing. So before you decide you're in a bad,mood and want to be negative how about you tall to someone and get the real answer.

I wish I had read these reviews before I sent my husband to this dr. He is absolutely arrogant and obnoxious. When my husband voiced concerns about an unnecessarily invasive procedure the doctor called his concerns stupid. He may be brilliant but that is worth nothing if he cannot be trusted. My husband was told that the procedure he would undergo would be minor and if a skin graft was necessary, it would be performed. Instead, the doctor severely disfigured my husband without giving him the option of choosing a less invasive procedure. Permanent damage is permanent. There's no way back now.

The atmosphere around this practice is filled with arrogance and disrespect for the staff. Very lucrative business with no one to oversee someone who thinks they are god.

I just started seeing Dr. Massessa because he's in my health insurance carrier's network and because of his outstanding qualifications. I looked around for a dermatologist with experience and good credentials. He's a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD), board-certified, and he's a Mohs surgeon, which requires special training. So in my opinion, when it comes to skin cancer, he's one of the best, and that's what I was looking for. My 21-year-old daughter had two suspicious-looking moles and he was on it right away with biopsies. He called me out of the waiting room to let me know they were going to do biopsies, He was very professional but also nice and reassuring. Luckily, the results were benign, but it was comforting to know that if she did have skin cancer, she was in great hands. I had an appointment and only had minor problems - mild rosacea and one mild spot of actinic keratosis. The PA didn't call Dr. Massessa in to see me. I was treated by the PA. She was pleasant and seemed competent. I also liked that fact that they suggested light therapy for my rosacea and a topical treatment vs. suggesting systemic prescription medication. I had a follow up appointment for my first light treatment and I absolutely loved the aesthetician who performed it. My only complaint is that the wait in the office was exceptionally long on the first appointment - around 45 minutes. With subsequent appointments, both my daughter and I were seen fairly promptly, so perhaps the first appointment wasn't typical. Also, the front office personnel are abrupt, which is OK, I'm not trying to be their friend, but they were somewhat rude at first. There's really no excuse for having an unpleasant demeanor, and it should be a requirement for anyone with a public-facing job. Bottom line, if anyone in my family ever has a serious or potentially life-threatening skin condition or cancer, I know we will be in great hands with Dr. Massessa. All of us have very fair skin and are prone to sun damage.

Dr. Masessa is not my friend. I don't need him to be. I understand all the complaints that other patients might have. He's brusque, he's fast, he's almost off-puttingly arrogant ....and I love him. He has saved my life several times. He's extremely agressive when it comes to biopsies and excisisons, to the point that it makes people feel like he's money hungry. I don't care. He has saved my children from being fatherless more than once. There are people out there who have doctors that decided to "keep an eye on" moles, to "watch" skin lesions, and some of them are dead. Melanoma doesn't play around. If he wanted to remove my arm, or my leg, or my liver... I'd get a second, and third and fourth opinion. But a piece of skin that could possibly kill me? Take it, take it all. Dr. Masessa has saved my wife from being a widow more than once. To me, dealing with arrogance and a brusque bedside manner is a small price to pay to have a doctor who is aggressive (and effective) at saving lives.

I finally made an appointment with Dr. Masessa after dealing with an incompetent PA (which I thought was an actual dermatologists). I tried explaining to him why I was displeased with her and how she made my face look worse than it originally did. He only gave me 2 minutes of his time and was extremely obnoxious and rude. He told me I could pay additional money out of pocket (after the $200 I already paid not including what insurance paid), so he could stick a needle in my face. He then pawned me off on his PA again and left the room. She felt so bad for me she apologized and offered to work on my facial issue on another visit without charging me. I left the office in tears. Dr. Masessa clearly only cares about making money and not about his patients' satisfaction. Shame on him! I do not plan on NEVER returning to his office.

Dr. Masessa is the best. I am so grateful a friend recommended him to me a few years ago. I have a history of skin cancer so visit with him several times a year. He is always thorough with his exams. Very kind and compassionate. I highly recommend him!

I've been seeing Dr.Masessa for YEARS now... with insurance, without insurance- doesn't matter. He's brilliant. ALWAYS willing to help. Dr Masessa is totally normal, not just "normal for a doctor". AND he's super understanding of my vanity- Another reason I adore him. I mean really. I lament the appearance of fine lines and then occasional breakout- and Dr.Masessa fills my head with knowledge and my hands with samples. Gene J, Denville, NJ

I have been a patient of Dr.Massesa's for many years and have always been so impressed with his expanded knowledge of so many skin diseases in addition to skin cancer. He has always been very thorough, precise and willing to help me with my skin condition. I remember him returning my call while he was on vacation to discuss my concerns after MOHS surgery...."no doctor every does that" If people think healthcare like this will continue under the new healthcare plan they had better wake up and smell the coffee. I highly recommend Dr.Masessa and I'm sadden that good physicians like him will fall by the wayside under the current administration.
