R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S!!! This hospital went into receivership and SHOULD have been closed Attorney Mark Russo and L&M CEO, Bruce Cummings. You have bought a hospital that is substandard and inefficient. I waited over 45 minutes for Risk Management and they kept sending down the same person who just did not understand what I needed. Besides, I was floored when I found out that "Brianna" was the secretary. Then there was a Judy or Julie that was suppose to come down but never did. The volunteer wearing the pink jacket at the front information desk was MORE frustrated than I was and kept saying, "What a shame!" By the way, she wore the pink jacket and not the blue jacket because this volunteer had been with Westerly Hospital a long time before L&M took over. My god Westerly was in the red as of their 2013 tax 990 form which by the way is AVAILABLE to the public, so anyone reading this should print a copy like I did off the internet.

This hospital violated the civil liberties of the family member when ER staff member, Jamie S. came out with not less than two armed security including a member of the Westerly RI police department. The family member ONLY requested the names of hospital staff, as was her right, at the time of the incident. Instead, the family member was barraged with questions for almost 30 minutes by Westerly Police dept, including providing her full name, date of birth and address. The family member has a right to privacy and a right to speak freely and request care giving information WITHOUT the need for police presence. The actions of Jamie S. was egregious. This hospital needs to be accountable for the actions of their staff members.

Talk about incompetence. We dropped my mother's belongings to the emergency room, the day before she was to be transported to a group home. The day after, we get a call stating that her belongings were still in the emergency room. That was strange since we checked her belongings in at the emergency room, providing her full name at the time of the drop off. The nurse mentioned she located the name in the system and would take care of it. Obviously it was not taken care of. We had to go back to the emergency room and waited approximately 15 minutes. The receptionist rolled out her suitcase and the bag we had dropped off previously. A name tag was placed on each item. When we closely examined the name tags, there were two tags stuck together. We removed the top layer to discover that the emergency room had originally placed the WRONG name on her items!!!! Talk about incompetence! No wonder her belongings did not get transported with her to the group home. We took pictures, if anyone cares to see them.

We would not recommend Westerly Hospital for emergencies, especially if you encounter Dr. Kevin Torres and nurse Jamie S. We had MUCH BETTER past experiences with another doctor on staff. We belief that medical staff must be "objective" at all times, especially when there was NO "Physical evidence" of any wrong doing. We highly recommend that family members who do bring their loved ones in for HELP because of Dementia/Alzheimer should be especially aware. You might be treated like a criminal with NO provocation and NO evidentiary proceeding. We were subjected to "posturing" and armed guards, not less than two Westerly police, WITH NO provocation. We have made contact with both Westerly Hospital and Lawrence and Memorial due to our treatment, and have YET to hear back from anyone. We are advocating CHANGE for ALL hospitals across the country, NOT just Westerly Hospital, to have in place a family liaison, so our frightful experience is NOT the norm. We hope government officials in Westerly and Rhode Island read this comment. It is a REAL travesty that doctors and nursing staff could have THAT much POWER. With such POWER comes enormous responsibility and accountability to get it right. Such POWER should NOT be given to those who DO NOT qualify to receive it!
