Horrible ER experience. Spinal tap done and no post instructions besides other problems and wait neglect time

Horrific emergency room -- in winter, you WILL pick up flu sitting for hours in chairs, waiting to be seen among some very sick people. This will be pandemic central. They do NOTHING to segregate potentially communicable individuals from others, not even to protect the immune-compromised collapsing from fatigue. Once admitted, Silverstein Pavillion is over-crowded, cluttered hallways, no room for recovering patients to walk safely, chaotic. Attempts at providing healthier food for patients is more miss than hit. No place for sick people. (Rhodes Pavilion is like a different hospital. More single rooms (safer, faster recovery), cleaner, quieter, less cluttered. You MUST have healthy friend/family visit often as advocate to stay vigilant. Going through emergency here can be deadly -- either spread of other diseases, or such a long wait you could get far worse off. They also kept screwing up who my husband's admitting doctor was (who had directed us here when we called with deteriorating health issue). So he wasn't notified when he was admitted, and another random, unknown doctor was assigned who did not know anything of his serious, cancer and surgical history. Very understaffed on weekends. Request Friday for an immediate ostomy nurse did not get anyone until Monday, after demanding, insisting, and the personal intervention of a nurse who "knew someone". Outrageous they don't have two WOC nurses on staff at all times. Horrifying that this is a teaching hospital. What, exactly, are they teaching by example of the practice of medicine and the priority of the patient?

I would not go back to this hospital, I think they do have some outstanding doctors, however it takes more than the Doctor to make the experience. I would highly recommend checking out healthgrades on this hospital. http://www.healthgrades.com/hospital-directory/pennsylvania-pa-philadelphia/hospital-of-the-university-of-pennsylvania-hgst6eb9e6a6390111
