My initial mtg was fast w/ Dr. Fossum. however, care after my surgery it was difficult to get aftercare appointments. I suffered in a great deal of pain as I was constantly told not to worry, and I would get better. The most frustrating part of my experience was my repeated request for testing I was told was not possible, only to find it through other physicians it was. He rarely made notes. He often made me feel stupid when I asked ?'s or was rude to me. I tried to enlist his nurse for help since he was often rude to me and seemed confused on my history everytime I saw him. .She told me how great he was....months later I found out this nurse was his wife. Office staff is awful, not returning calls, losing documents, and even mixing me up with another patient and giving me some bad news that wasn't even meant for me. My gut tells me he actually is a capable Dr, however I felt very unimportant and as though my case/file was not given the attention it deserved while I suffered.

I would not recommend Dr. Fossum to anyone trying to conceive. His methods were out of date (detecting ovulation by OTC kits, not US). I spent 4 months in his care with no progress, He was also uncaring and even rude. Like another poster, I experienced his nastiness in response to questions. He prescribed a high dose of Clomid & when I asked why, he insisted I was not ovulating even though the kits (his only detection method) suggested I was. Frustrated, I changed doctors after 4 months & am so glad I did. Two months later I became pregnant and I now have a baby girl. My new doctor (who did ultrasounds and bloodwork to confirm ovulation) said I had no ovulation problems. She also reviewed the HSG films I obtained from Dr. Fossum's office & found that the images he took hadn't been taken of the right area and were unreadable. If you are over 35, don't waste your time with Dr. Fossum or this practice.

I have been seeing Dr.Fossum since 2005 for treatment of uterine fibroids and now for fertility. I enjoy is bedside manner as he usually has jokes and remembers things about my previous appointments like the fact that I was studying for an exam. I did at times feel that i needed a second opinion and each time my course of treatment was confirmed. His individual schedule is difficult to keep track of but there are other doctors in the practice that you can see for routine things like blood work. I have read other comments and just seem ot have a completley different experience. I don't typically wait long in the waiting room even if I am late and one day I saw Dr. Fossum pulling charts himself (usually done by the nurses) to help speed things along while they were busy. I don't like their phone system but every one of my calls have been answered on the day that I called even if the nurse calls to say that they will have to contact him and call back the next day.

I was referred to Dr. Fossum by my gyno who also works in the same office. My first appointment was pleasant and I was hopeful. He discovered I had PCOS, suggested Birth Control pills and sent me on my way. I warned him the BC may not work because I have severe migraines that tend to get worse on BC. When this happened and I no longer could use the BC, as my migraines began to send me to the ER, he started blaming the PCOS condition on my weight. When I mentioned I researched an alternative to BC pills, he told me that my research was out of date and I was being lazy. He was rude and indifferent to my feelings. I do not deserve to be treated like that, so I took my records and myself to an endocrinologist. There I was told I could use an alternative to BC and have had excellent care since. Dr. Fossum was out of date and very unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone.

very poor follow up after surgery , was never told after taking clomid that I was infertile and already in menopause. Dr. Fossom was cold and unfeeling over the telephone and there was no follow up as to what to expect since he said I was in menopause

Dr. Fossum is wonderful! I recently seen him for a second opinion and chose him to perform my procedure. I couldn't say enough about my experience with Jefferson Hospital and the Drs. office itself. Very friendly and courteous. Dr. Fossum's bedside manner is outstanding. Will go back to see him again.

I went to Dr. Fossum for suspected endometriosis. He constantly gave me the run around about my treatement and was unconcerned about my pain. He gave me a prescription for an antibiotic, telling me it was for an infection in my uterus caused by prior surgery (even though I tested negative for all infections). I researched the antiobiotic and the main use was for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, which I tested negatively for. He was dishonest in why he was prescribing the antibiotic. I really felt as though he perceived me as "over emotional." I stayed under his care for 6 months (of test after test and he refused to do a simple lap to discover, after 10 years of symptoms if I had endometriosis). I finally got a 2nd opinion at Penn, the surgeon immediately scheduled me for a lap, and confirmed endometriosis all over my ovaries. Thank you so much Dr. Fossum, for wasting 6 months of my time.

After my first visit with Dr.Fossum--for a suspected adrenal insufficiency and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome--he ordered several tests and asked for me to return for a follow up in a few weeks. When I returned, he seemed to have lost all interest in my case. I asked about the test results and he said, "well, these things are hard to tell." And then, after about five minutes in his office--after a 3 hour drive to get there--he dismissed me with no diagnosis. I immediately went to a new doctor at home who conducted the same test that Dr.Fossum had ordered and my new doctor found that the results indicated a severe condition that required immediate further action. In addition, Dr.Fossum neglects to send my medical records to my new doctors, although several attempts have been made to reach him. If you're seeking a diagnosis, I would advise against going to Dr.Fossum.
