I went to this hospital with a uterine infection. In crippling pain I sat in emergency waiting room for thirty hours to find out no doctor had been on staff ALL NIGHT and nobody mentioned this until after 7 AM, for them to perform a uterine biopsy in a dirty, busted room off the ER that didn't even have stirrups - and without anaesthetic or any painkillers. They were supposed to give me a prescription for antibiotics and for painkillers on discharge, and the doctor argued with me and kicked me out saying the one IV dose I got was plenty, and I 'wasn't in that much pain'. I blacked out from the pain on the car ride home.

I found out from a gynaecologist that my GP sent me to that because of their incompetence I now can't ever have children.

This has been 'my' hospital for over 30 years. I have always received SUPERB care. As is usual with our Health Care System, they have been a victim of budget cuts, however, as an oncology patient I have always received superb caring attention, and cannot express my appreciation for it.

Bad memories about this place. Service non existent, the nurse kept passing by my room and ignoring simple requests, until I gave her money...

To be fair, I was at the Emergency which was under renovation. Very uncomfortable, broken recliners that didn't recline - sitting in those for many, many hours for IV. Their cafeteria doesn't take debit cards, so if you go, be prepared with foods. Rooms were warm for the nurses but cold for the patients who are just sitting, so dress well in layers. Had to tell my story in details to at least 5 different people, triage nurse, med student, intern, Dr. and as shifts changed, to the final check out Dr. That's all very frustrating when you're sick and exhausted and can barely think straight. The worst part was all that waiting. At the moment, I certainly don't think I'd go back if I got sick again soon!! All that said, I found them to be thorough, and I did leave there feeling much better after many tests over many hours. Staff and Dr's were friendly. My experience might have been different if Renovations were not going on. So this review is specific to this time period.

Doctor saw my wife who was having stomach pains, burping and coughing. Obvious case of gastric reflux but to be safe they wanted to do a barium swallow to image the esophagus. Doctor must not have been paying attention because she prescribed a bariumENEMA instead. She called a few days later to correct the mistake, but it could have been too late.

A very good hospital that saved my life when I had a fistula a few years ago.

I have been a patient there since my birth in the 60s - not a perfect place but still one of the best .

I have been with St. Mary's Hospital since the late 1970s. I have had a few ups and downs but nothing major. I have been blessed to have good and compassionate nurses. How well I remember my dear Doctor Burman who brought our Joshua into the world (1984, December). And only last year I had arthroplasty surgery with Dr. Moreno Morelli (whom I highly, highly recommend). I am thankful for Canada's health care knowing that in most parts of the world health care is substandard or not existing at all. That's my take! Laura Lee Reid
