27/01/14 3 4 4 4 A kidney stone was successfully removed by ureteroscopy, but lab analysis of the composition of the stone was not obtained, to the urologist's surprise. Because kidney stones can have completely different origins and composition, or a mixed composition, such information as to the type of stone can inform dietary choices (both composition and pH) to avoid recurrence, and can also assist in determining whether less invasive extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is appropriate (cystine and certain types of calcium are difficult to treat with lithotripsy). Stones can have a mixed composition, and my urine analysis and x-rays gave conflicting pointers about uric acid, so the failure to obtain a stone analysis leaves me with no confirmed guidelines for future dietary or treatment options, except that I should drink lots of water - which interferes with sleeping for obvious reasons. Stones very commonly re-occur, so this is a worry.  Respond

19/04/13 4 5 4 4 I think Dr. Chew is very knowledgeable and kind. However after each kidney stone procedure I was discharged without knowing the results of the procedures. I feel I am being treated not very seriously. I need to know what to do next, if the stone is there or not.

01/02/13 5 5 5 5 What an incredible Doctor with a great bedside manner. He met me first for a consultation, and obviously understood my irrational fear of having a cystoscopy done. He answered all my questions and concerns. He treated me with dignity and respect disarming any awkwardness. This guy rocks.  Respond

01/06/12 5 5 5 5 Dr.Chew is fantastic. I cant say enough good things about him. He was the fifth urologist that I saw for my kidney stones and he was the only one who could resolve the problem. He is the most pleasant, caring, and knowledgable doctor I have ever met and he should be teaching other doctors how to have a great bedside manner. This guy is a gem!  Respond

20/09/10 5 5 5 5 I have spent the majority of my life with major health issues including two renal diseases and system lupus. Twice now, Dr. Chew has literally come to my rescue. I live on the Northern tip of Vancouver Island and would travel across Canada to see Dr. Chew for my urological concerns. He is thorough, kind, knowledgeable, caring, has the best bedside manner I've ever encountered in someone with his level of skill. Dr. Chew does whatever is necessary to speed up the system in order to care for his patients who are really struggling. This Doctor knows how to navigate and bring wellness and successful treatment to his critically ill patients.  Respond

16/05/10 4 4 5 5 After a resident doctor reviewed my case, Dr. Chew came by himself to clarify some of the issues. He was thorough, knowledgeable and showed great emphathy. He further interviewed me and gathered information that led him to conclude that more than a urologist was required to handle my problem. He made recommendations to my GP and sent me onto another specialist who was more suited to handle my case. Dr. Chew, you're one of a kind in this medical system. I would highly recommend this doctor for someone who requires a urologist.  Respond

20/05/09 5 5 5 5 I don't think this doctor can be praised enough. He is amazing, listens to all your concerns and delivers the absolute best possible outcome. It is unfortunate that he mainly deals with laparoscopies. All urologists should follow his example. He has been entrusted with testing new faster laparoscopic instruments. He simply is the best urologist I have visited (out of about 6) and his skills are definitely superior.  Respond

08/02/09 5 5 5 5 Absolutely the best guy in town! Dr. Chew is amazing. Performed a complicated surgery laparscopically and is one of two doctors in BC able to do so. He answered so many questions and I never ever felt rushed. I felt he really and truly cared about me. Everyone in his office was also very helpful. I mention his name to anybody that has a problem in this area. Vancouver and VGH is very lucky to have him.  Respond
