He is a urologist surgeon apparently specialist in traditional open prostate surgery (removal). He is relatively young and apparently up to date on medical knowledge in this field. His approach seems very factual and he will quote lots of statistics when it comes to discuss options which is great. But he is a "traditional" surgeon so you may detect a bit of bias towards that kind of treatment. Nevertheless he is open, honest in discussing options and has no problem referring you to others for consultation. His receptionist is not the warmest/friendliest person on the planet.
Dr. Girvan performed a prostate removal surgery on me in late February. I have nothing praise for him , his staff, and supporting physicians. Dr. Girvan carefully reviewed my options before we agreed that surgery was the best route. He answered all my questions in detail and was very patient with me. During rounds at the hospital he was not in a rush and once again very patient with my questions. The group of physicians that Dr.Girvan shared rounds with and that did the catheter removal were also kind and patient in their treatment of me. I am very pleased to have such a young physician to deal with my issues and would recommend him with great confidence that others would also be pleased with him.
I have read the comments and disagree with some. Considering the huge workload on Dr. Girvan and his staff, I must say that they are both professional, patient and as friendly as possible considering time restraints. Dr. Girvan has operated on me twice and I see him every three months. Never was he rushing through procedures or explanations. His assistant/receptionist juggles too many responsibilities and gives the best that she can. I realize that all patients are anxious and nervous if they are visiting a neurologist. Please try to remember that these people are working as fast as possible to see the large amount of people everyday; that they are human with their own problems and responsibilities and that they do care. If you need further clarification, call the office, leave a message and when time allows, your call will be returned and given full attention. Awesome doctor and I am sincerely grateful to him
Nicest doctor I have had to deal with - very helpful in his explanation and told me exactly what was going on during my cystoscopy. Excellent bedside manner - totally relaxed myself and my wife - actually funny the way he described what he was looking for. Would definitely recommend him.
This a very knowledgeable young dynamic doctor highly skilled in his area of his specialty. Thanks to his skill in conducting physical examinations he was able to detect the presence of prostate cancer while my PSA score was only 5.02. He arranged a biopsy to be performed within 2 weeks and within another two weeks informed me of the results. After the malignant cancer had been found he arranged for me to discuss the option of radiation so that I could make a balanced decision as to whether to take this approach or surgery. I chose surgery because Dr. Girvan was confident that the cancer was contained within the prostate and had not spread. The operation was conducted only 8 weeks after the biopsy, and it was confirmed that Dr. Girvan's assessment was correct. After the operation my PSA dropped to 0.04.
He left kidney a stone behind and had to go back later to get it out and I suffered in between the two operations. His report to my GP said everything went well and the patient doing well... Uhrr... No. He doesn't believe in preventative measures other than to drink lots of water and use surgery when the stones get big enough. His receptionist is unfriendly despite having some religious quote on her wall. Maybe she should read it at the start of her work day.
