I went there hoping for a referral for an operation called a sympathectomy, which is a treatment for Raynaud's. While I certainly didn't expect to be rushed off to surgery without the appropriate tests and consultations, I did expect a rheumatologist to at least consider making the appropriate referrals to see if I was a candidate for the procedure. She said she never, EVER would even consider the possibility of this surgery for a Raynaud's patient, nor would she make any referrals whatsoever with regard to the matter.
She tried to prescribe Prozac, which allegedly has an off-label use as a vasodilator. When I asked her how this would affect the brain chemistry of a person who doesn't have mental health issues, she didn't have an answer. She then wrote me a prescription for Revatio, which very fortunately was denied by my insurance company. I later learned that Revatio is the another name for Viagra! Viagra can cause loss of vision, among other things. Shame on her!
