If you are looking for a doctor who understands mental illness this is your guy. He has a great understanding of the medication used to treat mental illness. He comes up with the right diagnosis and how to treat it. He spends as much time with you as you need,

His office manager, Jane Howard (510-339-0405) is a gem and very helpful. She can email office policy and fee information and questionaires, and help schedule the initial extended evaluation. Dr. Oklan is a compassionate and experienced adult, adolescent and child psychiatrist, specializing in mood and anxiety disorders and ADHD, as well as diagnostic evaluations psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. He is able to serve as sole treating psychiatrist, or work in collaboration with outside therapists, or with the psychiatric nurse/cognitive behavioral nurse in his office.He is not a provider for any insurance panels, MediCare or MediCal, but PPO's will reimburse at non participating provider rates, HMO's often are willing to authorize Single Case Agreements if necessary. Additionally, credit cards are accepted and reduced fees/payment plans are possible. | Respond |

Dr. Oklan literally saved my life for which I am forever grateful. His knowledge of psychiatry and psychopharmacology is excellent. I was a psychiatric nurse in the same county for years and had a good pool of MDs to compare him to. I recommend him unequivocally

i recently went thru a manic-depressive episode, and he went far beyond call of normal duty in response. it was very impressive. good docs are to be treasured, and this one is in that category.
