Many of his previous poor reviews have been deleted! I recall reading them 6 years ago. Dr. LaCava has no personal interactive skills. I had Urine and Blood test run to the tune of $1400, with results to be given in 7-10 days. after a month, with still no results I emailed the office and was told they were still not ready. I told them to cancel them as no longer of use. They did not and at the 2 1/2 month after the appointment I received an email with only the blood test results and low and behold like every other review that was posted I have Lyme Disease. Never did receive the refund.

I Wasted $27,000 With This Doctor Before I share the negative of my experience, let me share the positive. Dr. LaCava is a good man. His staff is likely the best staff I’ve interacted with. Wonderful people. Dr. LaCava saved my friend’s life: she suffered for 15 years, no doctor could help, she wanted to die, and was bedridden. She was wheeled into Dr. LaCava’s office and within 6 weeks she was walking again. He saved her life. My story is very different. It’s awful. I fully expected Dr. LaCava could help me. He helped me 0%. And interacting with Dr. LaCava is often unpleasant because he is often abrasive and even combative. Some of his statements became contradictory: “There’s no question you have Lyme disease”. Then “If this treatment doesn’t work, I’m treating you for the wrong disease”. Well the treatment didn’t work. Then “I’m sure you have Lyme disease”. I have no idea what I have. Dr. LaCava and the other doctor misled me about insurance repayment. They said insurance normally repays 60% to 70% of the cost. My insurance repaid 35%. HALF of what Dr. LaCava suggested was normal. I’ve been in the workforce 15 years and my insurance is the best insurance I’ve ever seen. It is phenomenally good; no previous insurance (or my friends’ insurances!) even remotely compares. So what is my bill? I paid $27,000 to Dr. LaCava (for nothing): I originally expected to get $18,000 back, but now I will only get $8,000 back. That’s almost $20,000 out of my pocket. For nothing. They injected me with antibiotics about 10 to 15 times. That did me no good and likely damaged my body. I paid thousands of dollars for supplements. That did me no good. He told me “You’re going to be one of my stars”. Well, I guess not. He once told me to drop my calorie intake to 900. That will make you sick! I confronted Dr. LaCava saying that 900 calories would force my body to pull what it needs from my muscles and would damage my body. So he changed his number from 900 to 1400, but didn’t apologize or say he was wrong. And the other doctor in the room didn’t correct/challenge him (when he made his 900 claim) and she didn’t apologize either. This sort of error forced me to begin questioning his credibility at the most basic level. Which brings me to almost my biggest concern with this doctor. He told me early on he would do the thinking, not me, and I was thinking too much. Thinking too much? Too much a part of the process? The reason I choose to think is that doctors make mistakes, of which Dr. LaCava is the biggest, most egregious example in my life. I will doubtfully ever work with a doctor again who requires me to rely almost unthinkingly on him, and denigrates my part of the process. Do you know what other doctors tell me? To think! One doctor recommended a book I should start reading and encouraged reading in general! Multiple doctors have told me that their job is to educate me and that I’m supposed to be part of the process. Dr. LaCava took the opposite approach and he failed. Devastation, demoralization, and bouts of depression came from working with Dr. LaCava. So many tears. Not only did I leave with all of the pain in my muscles and joints that I walked in with, but I had $27,000 less money, AND he had accused me along the way of having a problem with doctors. I didn’t have a problem with doctors. But, I probably should now. But only with one doctor: this one. He is a good man, he did his best, but he is unacceptably cantankerous, does not involve his patients in their treatment and nearly insults them along the way, sometimes misleads/misdirects about the percentage insurance will repay, and in my case was completely unable to provide even the smallest amount of healing. They told me they would recommend next doctors or steps; they have not done so. I have no idea what to do. This was one of the most devastating experiences of my life.

Dr. LaCava and staff are wonderful! I was so glad to finally meet a doctor who took the time to really listen and understand my problems. He developed a well constructed treatment plan which has tremendously helped me. He is highly intelligent and kind. In addition, his staff treats you like a person instead of like a burden. Great overall experience!
