13/05/13 5 5 5 5 Dr Ward is nothing short of incredible. She saw me through two pregnancies and was in L&D for my first (horrific) labour. We were first-time parents and everything possible went wrong and Dr Ward got us through it. We wouldn't have seen anyone else for our prenatal care the second time 'round, and although she wasn't on delivery the night of our second labour, she prepared us for all possible outcomes and we went in confident and prepared. I have had a few post-delivery complications and Dr Ward has been helping me through all aspects of that and has gone beyond the call of duty in doing so. I cannot recommend this doctor highly enough. Our family has nothing but gratitude and respect for this amazing woman.  Respond

20/03/13 3 4 2 2 Please rethink going to Dr. Ward if you're looking for a normal birth. Dr. Ward wanted me induced, but I was sent home by the hospital when we arrived as they did not agree with her decision, but she still had me induced the following day. The entire process was beyond painful and horrific; I can completely relate to other posters water breaking process as it was extremely painful. Dr. Ward would not see me after I gave birth for our post-op appointments and had me sent back to my GP without explanation. Absolutely traumatizing!  Respond

11/02/13 4 5 5 5 I have had Natalie as a doctor for the past 5 years and I can definitely say that I trust her and know she has my (and my family's) best interest at heart. She is willing to listen to me and my opinions on any medical issue and doesn't dismiss me like some doctors I have had experience with in the past. She also knows when to defer to a specialist and I always receive my appointments in a timely manner. I would like to thank Dr. Ward for being there for me and growing into a competent and compassionate health care provider.  Respond

24/09/12 4 5 5 5 Dr. Ward is my family doctor and I saw her for my three pregnancies. We were lucky enough to have her as our delivery doctor for two of our deliveries. She was very knowledgable and supportive through the deliveries. During the last delivery, the baby's heart rate dropped and Dr. Ward needed to use a vacuum. My husband and I were scared but Dr. Ward kept us calm by explaining everything that was going on and why she needed to use a vacuum. We really trusted her. We were so glad that she was there.  Respond

27/08/12 5 5 1 1 I wanted to have as natural birth as possible. But Dr. Ward had other plans. I'd ask her a question, and she'd over simplify/exaggerate/or just not tell me what she was doing just get me moving onto the next step. She'd bring in other nurses to try and get me to change my mind. She said "oh im just going to check your cervix" and then stripped my membranes without telling me. it made me scream out in pain, and then she chastised me for screaming. "oh im just going to break your water" and then tried to attach the monitoring device to baby's head (without success because i was kicking her in the stomach)and without telling me. **Right after she stripped my membranes, she was talking about other ways of inducting and said quote "I've never hurt you, have I?" and I was just laying there in tears and pain from the unexpected rimming.** I had 2 more post natal appts with her, but I cancelled them because I don't want her touching my baby.  See Responses

08/12/11 5 5 5 5 Dr Natalie Ward is by far the VERY BEST and most knowledgeable Physician I have ever met! She is genuinely concerned about the well being of her patients. The Staff in the office are very helpful and accomodating. Mike Rae - Calgary  Respond

29/11/11 5 5 4 5 I adore Dr. Ward. She has been my attending physician for my last two pregnancies. She is succinct and to the point which would, I'm sure, annoy some people but I appreciate her definitiveness and trust her opinion explicitly. Not the case for every doctor I have encountered. She is a realist and doesn't try and sugar coat the issue however she was open to my concerns when I raised them. You need to know what you want to talk about when you enter the room or she will be there and gone before you have time to beat around the bush. This means she is always on time and often early for appointments.  Respond

25/03/11 3 5 5 5 I have been at this clinic since I was born (Dr. darling actually delivered me) and Dr. Ward is by far the best Dr. I have ever seen. She is knowledgeable, always on time, kind, and efficient. She stays current in all topics and she was actaully able to find a condition that no other doctors was able to find (or give the time and energy to find) She is an amazing Doctor and I very much appreciate everything she has done for me and my family (as we all see her and love her!)  Respond

20/01/11 3 5 3 3 I found Dr. Ward to be extremely rushed and impersonal. She was quick to talk about medical intervention when dealing with my pregnancy. She seemed annoyed when my husband and I asked too many questions (we wanted to keep our pregnancy and delivery as natural as possible, and she seemed pretty geared toward only the medical aspects of pregnancy). I felt she treated my pregnancy like a medical condition instead of a natural, normal part of life. I will not be seeing Dr. Ward in future pregnancies.  Respond

28/09/10 4 5 5 5 I can't say enough good things about Natalie Ward. I keep reading comments about her being impersonal..but I've never experienced that. She's always been extremely helpful and friendly - even calling after hours to give me test results and follow up. I've always found her to be open to opinions and discussion however NO Dr in Calgary has 30 minutes to spend with a patient anymore. Every single experience with her has been pleasant and reassuring.  Respond

30/11/09 5 5 5 5 Dr Ward has looked after me when i was pregnant almost 2.5y ago and I'd say i was really happy with the overall quality of care i've received. I feel that she was rushed at her clinic appointments, but so unrushed at the hospital on the other hand. I'd definately recommend her.  Respond

30/11/09 5 5 5 5 Doctor Ward is amazing. I met her at the Primary Care Network when I was pregnant with my son, who is know 6 months old. She followed me through my whole pregnany and was with me at the hospital during my c-section. My husband and I are very upset because we are expecting again, and cannot have Dr Ward as our doctor again. She is such a caring person, and a lot of fun.  Respond

16/11/09 5 5 5 5 I showed up for my appointment on time, checked in and sat down. I was not one paragraph into my magazine, and I was called in to see the doctor. Within 3 minutes of waiting in the room, Dr. Ward came in and addressed my issues. Great doctor, great service.  Respond

04/11/09 4 5 4 4 Dr.Ward was the doctor who was there with me and my husband when my son was born at 24 weeks premature, she was so kind, strong and helpful through the whole process, I could not have got through it without her. She even took the time to visit my son in the NICU throughout his stay, she is a wonderful person and a great Doctor.  Respond

23/10/09 5 5 5 5 Love Dr. Ward, but I loved Dr. Cribb, and Dr. Darling. They are all different, but each had their very best qualities, and so does Dr. Ward. This Dr. has been a blessing to me. She has treated me with the utmost respect and courtesy. She has been very patient, knowledgeable, supportive, and courteous. She was unbelievably helpful with my son, diagnosing his problem quickly and efficiently. He loves her too by the way. I enjoy the fact that I can count on getting in and out of my appt. on time. I don't understand the negative comments, and I would HIGHLY recommend this Dr. to EVERYBODY, except the people who aren't happy with anything and are always looking for something to complain about. We were so lucky to have Dr. Ward assume Dr. Cribb's practice.  Respond

21/10/09 5 5 5 5 I feel that Dr. Ward is getting an unfair evalutaion from people whom have seen Dr. Cribb and before that Dr. Darling as I have. It is normal to form an attachment to your doctor and losing both of these great doctors was hard. I however think that Dr. Ward is fabulous! I enjoyed having her for my doctor for my second pregnancy. She was as excited as I was about my baby and made sure I was taken care of at the hospital. She also was very supportive of a situation I was going though and called me at home to see how I was doing. I trust her, because she acts like a real person. Not just a doctor. Thanks for that Dr. Ward!  Respond

24/07/09 5 5 5 4 Dr. Ward was diligent in reading my file and checking my family history. As a result, even though the basic tests done as part of an annual check up were not very unusual, she sent me for some further tests that idenfied cancer in an early stage which can be treated with a high percentage of success. If she had not done that my situation could have ended up to be much worse. She followed up personally by phone and was very personable, sympathetic and helpful.  Respond

11/07/09 5 5 5 5 Dr Ward is the best doctor I could have ever asked for. I suffer with severe anxiety and during my pregnancy it became more and more severe. At one point I needed to switch my care to her due to a horrible experience with another doctor. She has gone above and beyond her duties as a doctor. Dr Ward went out of her way to see me immediately every appointment, explained everything to me and took time out of her day to notify me personally with any and all test/ultrasound results. I needed to have an emergency induction that resulted in a c-section and she spent that morning calling every unit that I would be in giving them specific instructions for my care. I would recommend Dr Ward to any expectant mother for Maternity care, I'm actually rather upset that my care with her is complete. She is absolutely the most caring, compassionate and helpful Dr I have come across.  Respond

27/04/09 5 5 5 5 My wife has been seeing Dr. Ward as her maternity doctor for several months, and all I can say is wow! If you're able to see Dr. Ward in her office on Southport Rd. your experience will be fantastic (unfortunately the admin and nursing staff at the maternity centres in Calgary can be terrible). Dr. Ward was the first doctor we have ever had an appointment with THAT WAS EARLY!! She treats you like a human, not like just another patient. Most doctors have a very clinical opinion of maternity, but Dr. Ward makes a very sincere effort to relate to you on a personal level. She is FANTASTIC!  Respond

26/02/09 2 2 1 1 I am a patient of Dr Safran (whom I LOVE!!!) but had to go to Dr. Ward when having my first child. Both my husband & I were EXTREMELY unhappy with Dr. Wards bedside manner. We found that she was alway in a rush to complete our appts. & never seemed interested in discussing anything with us. She spend more time in our appointments duscussing her weekend plans(bbq's/field hockey etc). As first time parents we wanted more knowledge on what to be expecting & was happening throughout our trimesters & we felt that she had zero interest in assisting us. Also I was very sick throughout my pregnancy and I felt she never took me serious when I would try to explain how bad I was feeling & my lack of ability to eat. I will not be going back to her when we decide to have another child.  Respond

24/02/09 3 5 5 5 I have been a patient in this Dr.'s office since I was a child I have been a patient of Dr. Darling and Dr.Cribb and was happy with the care I received from both. I feel that the care myself and my family receive from Dr. Ward is above and beyond the care I received from the others. She is kind, knowledgeable and is very proactive. She is absolutely wonderful with kids as well.  Respond

05/01/09 5 4 5 5 I also am a former patient of Dr. Cribbs (and before that Dr. Darling). Although I have always been disappointed when the other 2 doctors have moved on. I've always been more than happy with their replacements. Dr. Ward has done WAY more than I ever would have expected from and over worked, underpaid Canadian health care professional. The care provided to me by her has way exceeded my expectations. I had to have my annual physical in the States this year as I was taking a course there. And for only $1200 a( wonderful) doctor spent an hour with me covering everything that Dr. Ward did previously. Dr. Ward was able to do everything this American doctor did in a caring and efficient manner. We can bet Dr. Ward was not paid $1200 by ABHC. I think all of the people who are upset here should realize how lucky they are to have her working in Canada instead of getting rich in the States. Our battle is with our government, not this committed, wonderful doctor.  Respond

27/06/08 3 3 1 2 Dr. Ward is cold, abrupt, and did not check my past medical records when she prescribed something incorrectly. She is unwilling to listen to questions and seems to have the attitude that she knows best, with no consideration for what a patient feels or chooses. Perhaps she would be better as a researcher where she would not have to deal with patients personally.  Respond

24/06/08 4 4 2 2 I find her 'bedside' manner to be rough and cold. My husband has no problems with her, but the rest of my family has had to learn to be stern about what they want from her as a medical professional. She left the room once to print a prescription but didn't tell me why/where she was going - I ended up finishing a bad appointment by leaving without waiting for her to come back. I kind of thought she was done - I was upset, so I left. I've seen her locum on Mondays or Thursdays ever since. I'm not really looking forward to her being my maternity doctor someday.  Respond

28/04/08 2 3 1 3 Dr. Ward needs to learn how to listen to her patients prior to prescribing. I went into her office with an issue, requested a referral to a specialist, and was handed a prescription and was told that there was no need -- even though Dr. Cribb had told me that she'd be happy to refer me after the birth of our first child. We are quite thrilled to have a new family doctor now...  Respond

28/04/08 3 2 1 2 I find Dr. Ward extremely impersonal, inexperienced, pompous, and unreasonably defensive. I shared a similar experience with other reviewers, where she did not take the time to look at my past history, and quickly prescribed something that turned out to be incorrect. It appears she has no time to listen to her patients, and even stated to me that the older patients don't care for her because she is not about to spend 30 minutes with them like Dr. Cribb used to. I have found her distant and not willing to be questioned regarding certain treatments.  Respond

26/02/08 3 4 4 3 Having seen both Dr Cribb and Dr Ward (and Dr Darling before them), I find Dr Ward to be pleasant and helpful, but very junior. She had to use her binder to give me pretty basic information about my (relatively common) condition. I do think she has great potential though. I am very thankful that she personally phones with test results and will discuss them over the phone.  Respond

31/01/08 5 5 5 5 Dr. Ward is by far, an amazingly gifted Doctor. She brings trust, knowledge, and caring into her practice. My 17yr.old daughter, son 14yrs, as well as myself are very fortunate to have her as our family caregiver.  Respond

30/01/08 3 3 3 3 Dr. Ward took over for Dr. Alina Cribb. Alina was an amazing doctor with an amazing attitude and who was very proactive and personable. Dr. Ward did not even take the time to review my file when I came in for an appointment. She assumed I was pregnant with my third child (I have no idea why). If she would have read my file she would have know I have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years and during this time have lost a child at 19 weeks. I also had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. All this, she would have know if she took time to read my chart. She is very impersonal and does not take the time to get to know her patients. She is a great dissapointment after seeing Alina for 9 years. I truly hope she starts educating herself about her patients because with the need for more doctors in Calgary, we do not have many choices on who we see.  Respond

20/11/07 1 4 1 3 Dr. Ward took over from Dr. Alina Cribb who left on a one year sabbatical mid year 2007. We have found Dr. Ward knowledgable but impersonal, abrasive, judgmental and rushed. Doesn't know/study family histories nor follows through consistently. She had a resident doing medicals without being present. Prescriptions are written before knowing whether they are warranted. We have been patients since the clinic opened and have witnessed many changes, most of which are not in the best interests of either the patient or doctor. The staff have the same demeanor as Dr. Ward. As patients we're faced with seeing signs that read: abuse of staff will not be tolerated...how about abusive staff will not be tolerated???...the patient doesn't have any rights or say in their potential treatment without being deemed abusive or unknowledgable. My family has a long history practicing medicine, we're embarassed by the professionalism in this office and the total lack of respect.  Respond
