:( Click to report rating *  2/7/10 4 2 1 Determining whether or not this individual is a good physician is like trying to read a blank page. He is not one for words. Upon my requesting continuance of my pain medication initiated by another physician, he was quick to pull out his "triplicate" (now duplicate) narcotic prescription pad, based on nothing more than my stating "chronic pain", without any detail! He stated that he "had thorough knowledge" of my medical history, based on a four-page computer file, expressing surprise when told that I also had a four-inch thick "paper file". If you want to self-direct your medical care, this is the fellow for you. However, if you want a diagnostician or therapeutically knowledgeable family physician, keep looking. At the same location is Dr. Maureen Conly, an *excellent* physician, in almost all respects. He could well become the darling of "drug seekers". Scary.

:( Click to report rating    10/14/09 1 1 2 I typically have to wait 45 min to an hour past my appointment time. He refuses to discuss more than one issue, even when I book a double appointment. It's as though my time isn't nearly as valuable as his. I have to tell him which medications I prefer and the dosage that would be acceptable. This annoys me. I go to a doctor for his/her advice and expertise. Why am I telling him which medications would work?

:( Click to report rating    7/20/09 1 1 1 This was supposed to be my first visit to a doctor in North Van since my arrival almost a year ago. With my new medical #, off I went for my visit. I was on time, waited patiently for someone to come to the desk so I could let them know I was here. After about 10 minutes, the receptionist finally comes out from the back. First of all, the receptionist is loud, rude and a tad annoying. After I sat down, I observed what appeared to be a physician walking out of the office. I had a feeling that the man who just walked out was the doctor I had an appointment with. After watching the 2 people behind the counter exchange nervous glances, I prepared myself for the worst but unfortunately it wasn't until an hour after my appointment should have been that I was told that Dr. Vala was not in the office and wasn't expected to be back for at least another hour. Not to mention that the receptionist had the nerve to tell his patients who had come in after me that he was not in. I will never go back.

:( Click to report rating    2/18/09 1 3 1 I had just moved to north vancouver and could not find a doctor. Ended up at his office. I had the worst full physical that I have ever recieved and I have had plenty. As I have had ovarian cancer I know what it should entail. This was extremely painful, took him at least 10 minutes to place the speculum. Then it was like he was using a periscope. Moved the thing around-I have no idea what he was doing but the proceedure took at least 15 to 20 minutes. Trust me-that is too long. Then he proceeded to tell me that I needed to come back next week as he wanted to double check everything was ok down there. I do not think so. I ended up bleeding for 3 days. I asked him about my test results and he had a blank look. Also I wanted to know about my high blood pressure which he forgot about. Anyways, I found a new doctor...

:) Click to report rating *  2/2/09 4 5 4 I can't relate to any of the comments on here but I understand about the frustration when it comes to 'one thing at at time' he does however tell you that upfront. I am a new patient and I went for a papsmear where he was incredibly gentle and kind. Usually I have alot of cramping after and this time I didn't. I do find his aids unprofessional, rude and one of them a bit creepy. The girl who helped him while I had my exam was extremely unprofessional and awkward. He definately needs to hire some competant people and you are right, maybe talk or as a few more questions.

:( Click to report rating    10/24/08 2 3 1 I couldn't believe this guy was actually a doctor, the only thing more surprising was the student doctor he had with him. The student doctor could hardly speak english I had to keep suggesting words. He didn't have a clue how to deal with my 15 month old son either. Then when Dr. Vala came in I felt as though he just wanted to agree with whatever the student said and get me out the door. I felt like I was on some hidden camara show and these were terrible actors, not doctors. I would definitely NOT see this doctor.

:( Click to report rating    10/17/08 4 1 2 Not happy with him at all. He didn't ask many questions when I first visited him, then gave me a 2 week supply of an anti-depressant and told me to come back in 2 weeks. 2 weeks later I booked a double appointment because I had three things to discuss with him. He would only talk to me about ONE thing at each visit. I had to choose which ailment was most important. After talking to him about one thing, I asked him what about the anti-depressant that he gave me 2 weeks prior ??? He looked annoyed and impatient, after looking quickly at the computer to see which medication he had given me 2 weeks prior, he practically ran out of the office, grabbed me 2 more sample boxes, told me to continue taking them and make another appointment in another 2 weeks. He never asked me about how the medication was affecting me, or anything like that. Dr. Vala seemed much more intent on keeping the appointment short. I now go to a clinic doctor, I will not go back to see Dr Vala.
