12/12/11 5 5 5 5 I am very saddened to learn about Dr. Popovic passing away. He was a very compassionate man, loving, and caring. I was born in a vey poor family in Africa, but Dr.popovic paid my tuition fees in both primary and secondary school, and he helped me as much as he can in all other aspects of life. I attribute a great deal of my success in life to Dr. popovic and his family who loved me and cared for me even though they didn't know me. He has been my motivation in life. I can't express how sad i feel to learn this bad news. I always one day wanted to meet him personaly, but I hope that I will have a chance to meet him in Heaven. my sincere condoleances goes to his wife Jane and the rest of his family. You will be greatly missed Dr. Emil. Rest In Peace  Respond

20/04/11 5 5 5 5 As with others I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Emil. I came to him in 2008 after a year in agony when some of Perth's best wouldn't touch me and he performed a dynamic stabilization and I am now doing the same things I was doing twenty years ago, regaining my fitness and my strength (and to certain degree my sanity). I had the opportunity to relay to Emil that he given back my life but he was always gracious and accepted my thanks and said it was his job. My hope is that another Surgeon keeps his work alive and the belief in his products and keep providing real options to those who are almost out of surgical options (when you believe the revered and esteemed surgeons in the Perth medical society) Mate I will miss you and my thoughts are with Jane and his wonderful family and friends.Rod  Respond

27/03/11 5 5 5 5 I was a pt of Emils in 2002. Had a cerebral bleed from an aneurysm popping. Together with Dr Wayne Thomas, Emil is the reason why I am alive today. The cranial bleed was diagnosed as too large to fix. I had 24 hours to live. Both doctors were willing to accept the risk of the surgery that I WANTED. Since then I am forever grateful for every additional day I have. I have had children since and I became so inspired by Emil that I have become an ICU nurse myself in Perth working with Emil. I extend to Emil's family my extreme condolences and sadness about his recent passing. Im surprised that such a beautiful person has left us and that Perth has forever lost its top neurosurg. I am also surprised that he is gone because we would often talk about how risky and lucky I am to be here because of the work both doctors did with me. Im sure that Im not the only grieving patient/nurse. Its a shame that a few risky surgeries did not go as well as mine but thats the nature of risky surg isnt it?  Respond

23/03/11 5 5 5 5 He was a genius! Without him, I would not be walking today let alone have my beautiful children. He was patient, took the time to listen to me and performed a very risky operation. I was walking the day after. I don't think I can thank him enough. Wherever you are - thank you!  Respond

19/08/10 4 5 5 5 After being on a diagnostic treadmill for 18 mths & radiologists reporting erroneously there was no abnormality in my spine Dr Popovic identified my lower vertebra was bone on bone (& I could see that!)& that was the cause of my severe pain. He operated & gave me back hope, I could not have continued with that level of constant pain. I improved mobility & quality of life hugely until less than 1 yr post surgery I was rear ended in my car, this stirred up the surgery & stuffed my nerves in my neck to add more problems. when I was desperate, he answered his mobile & gave reassurance & assessment over the phone & has always been attentive & professional. He is benevolent & charges the government recommended fee, no nasty extra bills to add to the pain. Highly recommend him :)  Respond

05/07/10 3 4 5 5 Dr Popovic operated on my spine after carefully and patiently trying all other less invasive procedures. I found him caring and knowledgeable. He was so gracious and supportive when my husband called him at 2 o'clock in the morning when i was in significant pain. He fixed the problem with my neck and I am very grateful. He also participated in the 'no gap' scheme which made facing the hospital bills so much easier. We need more surgeons like him!  Respond
