6/19/13 4 1 5 5 I've been a patient of Dr. chapnik's for about 5 years or maybe 4 since moving to Aurora. If i had done a review a few years ago it might be just as negative as some of the other comments. HOWEVER, alot has changed. I was initially just going to read other reviews but i think the negative comments don't hold up in 2013. I decided i should create an account just to defend him.....He's been very professional and helpful... The staff is alot better, they DID have unfriendly and incompetant staff a few years ago but not now. ANd they are not unorganized like they were. I can only speak for myself, but i think he really knows his stuff...lol, ok he's supposed to, but i mean he has been thorough with me....and friendly. I noticed that they seem to be swamped with patients, and at times it can get hectic. He is NOT punctual, but that would be my only complaint. And Dr. trevor Berns has been excellent when Dr. chapnik has been away. I would recommend him now....no question.

3/5/13 4 4 4 4 I have been a patient of Dr. Chapnik's for over three years, and I am very happy with his services. At first, he did seem a bit distant-- however, as he got to know me he has become much more personable. He looks me in the eye and spends ample time talking to me about my medication, and my stressors in life. I am schizophrenic and it took me trying a few different meds until we found a combination that helped me. He was sensitive to my concern about antipsychotics causing weight gain, and helped me to find one without this side effect. I also have issues with addiction. He has always treated me with compassion and respect in this regard, while other doctors have treated me like a criminal. He did insist on a drug test once, but after the test came back exactly as I stated it would, he knows I am honest with him and has not pressed the issue again. He always fills out my paperwork accurately, and the other staff have always been friendly and helpful.  Respond

8/26/11 5 4 5 5 I can't believe some of information I'm reading about Dr. Chapnik. I have always found him to be extremely thorough, pleasant to talk to and runs a very good office. He's very knowledgeable; always hit the mark with me. He is not arrogant at all. He completes his testing and will call you if anything is amiss. His staff are helpful, accommodating and pleasant to deal with. They take their time to speak to you. They run a walk-in clinic as well but give preferred service to their regular patients. I've been seeing him now for a few years and am very thankful for all they have done for me.  Respond

2/6/11 1 1 1 1 after waiting for more than 2.5 hours after the time of the appointment chapnicks opinion was that "its the patients problem". he doesn't care if you wait, he doesn't care if he overbooks he deliberately wants to. clearly patients are cattle to hearded and billed. he put more effort into trying to sell extra services than diagnosing the problem i asked about  Respond

11/22/10 1 1 2 3 useless, uncaring, ignorant. he almost killed me with a misdiagnosis and his staff can't even keep track of who has come in the door. beware if you go there, find some one else if you can.  Respond

7/21/10 1 1 1 2 Staff rude and arrogant, here is my example of the type of doctor Chapnick is, I arrive one morning early because I had a few refills that I needed and hate sitting for hours watching the worst customer service examples anywhere by his staff...Now remember nobody was in the waiting room,I guess it was more important to him to show his self importance and make me wait half hour for no reason..When he finally saw me him I pulled my list out with 5 things I need to discuss ( nothing important refills and a sports injury question)he saw the note an immediate said "you can only discuss 3 things on that list with me or you will have to make another appiontment" !!!!!..Hello OHIP ! I see him less than once a year and this is one of the first things out of his mouth..nice touch Vic, oh yes..still nobody in the waiting room when I left..shaking my head.pathetic !! Give his office a call if you want to hear why the people are commenting like this.if you need proof and yes the phones working  Respond

7/8/10 1 1 1 1 the last post must have been from this doctor as he is the worst doctor i have ever had in 50 years of life. he has no clue what hes doing and he is dangerous. what doctor changes your meds that are keeping you alive and tells u to come back in 3 months. i went to this man 6 times in a row over 6 months to have 1 paper filled out and still the man hasn't filled out the paper. never have i been treated so bad by a doctor. heres one for you. why would you send a 18 year old with a steel rod in his leg to physio when he came to ask the so called doctor to have the bar removed because the screws were coming out from his skin. i will be getting a second opinion on everything this man has done and i will be making a formal complaint about this man. really what other doctor in Ontario is always taking new patients. Can you imagine being told to come back another time by the doctor because he wants to go home at 430 pm. this guy is unreal.  Respond

2/8/10 1 2 2 3 I was a patient of Dr. Chapnik's - as was my Father & Mother. We now have a new Dr. - that is 100% better. The staff in the office are less than helpful, have sour attitudes, are unpleasant & unorganized, don't pass along information as requested by the Dr. put my information into my mothers file & vice versa, then scolded us when we inquired about referral dates they were to have made - all the while the info was in the wrong file..I could go on - however - a large part of the problem is that they work without privacy, the office environment is dingy & they are overworked, with too many patients. What really puzzles me is why he keeps accepting new patients when they can't handle the ones they have. Every visit, you get a presciption or a test - test results are never communicated - unless you ask. I'm sure Dr. C is smart - hard to tell when he doesn't speak much & you feel rushed when you see him. Very poor care & after care.  Respond

1/22/10 4 2 1 2 I have never had a problem with the staff... Dr. Chapnik is the problem. This guy is a creep. NEVER again will I return!! This guy doesn't not care about you. PERIOD! What I have learned from going to him is that I should really think about what I tell my doctor and because of him I can see why people have fears about seeing a doctor. I have nightmares about this man!  See Responses

2/13/09 1 1 1 3 It continues to amaze me how incompetent the support staff is at this clinic. From answering the phone to organizing the patients in the waiting room; i have been put into wrong rooms with someone else's file, completely forgotten about etc...not to mention, when you walk into the clinic you are greeted with a scowl. I find Dr Chapnik himself to be fairly knowledgeable but very moody from one appointment to the next and it feels like they're trying to sell you a used car with their referrals. If there wasn't such a shortage of family dr's in On, I would certainly go elsewhere.  Respond

12/18/08 1 1 1 1 I found new doctor after few visits at dr. office and I am happy that I did. This doctor made me feel that I am there to bother him and did not help at all to with my health problems. I had terrible blood test results that nobody told me about when results came in; I found out few months later after begging him to let me know what my blood work looked like (nobody, even the office staff, seemed to care about the positive results in my blood test report from lab). Of course there was the problem that needed treatment but obviously this doctor DOESN'T CARE about your health!!! I left and never came back to this doctor. My health is important to me!!!  Respond

11/13/08 1 1 1 2 I think Dr Chapnik is weak as a family physician. He answer to everything is to write a prescription. He has consistently misdiagnosed my wife's problems and refuses to listen to her concerns. He is unresponsive and his staff is unprofessional. If I had an option to go to another doctor I would - unfortunately changing doctors in this province is virtually impossible. I would not recommend him to anyone.  Respond

10/8/08 2 5 4 4 Dr. Chapnik and his staff don't seem to care; I'm disappointed. I feel like my family and I don't matter and are part of an assembly line/treadmill. It's rarely a pleasant experience and I feel like an intrusion on their day.  Respond

9/26/08 1 3 1 1 I agree with the negative posts. The staff are unfriendly, and one is clearly inept. There is no longer any excuses for this woman, she is causing these docs to lose money, and may cause them considerable headaches other than financial. I often feel like I am being herded into the little exam rooms with others, he is in a rush, he doesn't appear to care. I hate being caught in this situation of a doctor shortage. On the other hand, I like being able to get my blood work done there. Maybe the waiting area could be less institutional like and more warm and friendly. Also the staff need to have more privacy while working, and a radio. Please take down half of the paper notices posted. There are too many and very confusing, looks tacky.  See Responses

9/18/08 2 1 3 3 I've been a patient of Dr. Chapnick since he moved to Aurora and opened the clinic. I have consistently felt that things could be better in his practice - and they can. I agree with the posts - as he grows as an individual he will get better. I can honestly say I do not believe I have rec'd bad care from him, just a lack of caring. The clinic itself sends terrible messages to people - if you don't do this you will be punished - if you aren't here by X time - you are out of luck - where is the customer service? - NON EXISTENT. I understand how busy this team is and I see them trying at times to be happy - but they seem MISERABLE!!! The front staff clearly hate thier jobs - is it our fault as the clients? I don't think so, so why are we the one's punished? I find myself overcompensating with smiles, jokes, anything to get them to be nice to me!!! My no. 1 concern is punctuality - it simply does not exist. with a 19 mos old - forget it, why bother to book an appt!?  Respond

9/4/08 5 2 3 5 Dr. Hall was my doctor for 30 years and is the best doctor ever! Still, years after he has given up his practice, I drive by 52 Prospect and wish he'd just come back. He helped me through general medical problems right down to massive crisis' I occasionally went through, and even did a couple of house calls for me when I was immobile and couldn't get into his office. Erma was awesome too. Dr. Hall was professional, thorough, sincere and funny. God I miss him! I see Dr. Chapnick now in Aurora and I can't decide whether I'm happy with him or not because one visit he seems patient and caring, and the next he is leaving the office while I'm still asking him a question. They have too many patients as I have waited 2 hours for a 5 minute appointment I booked. All of Dr. Chapnick's staff though are wonderful. Anyway, much of my annoyance with Dr. Chapnick may be directly because he is simply not Dr. Hall, and that is hardly his fault, so I'm hanging in till I can make an informed decision.  Respond

6/17/08 1 2 1 1 Had a routine physical, and I had mentioned that I had some headaches. He mentioned that it was probably from vision problems and gave me the card to the optician in the office next door. I mentioned my eyes were done less than a year ago (I don't wear glasses), and they were 20/20. Again, he looked down, didn't care to hear what I said, and very unprofessional. I would agree that the staff there is not as organized as other doctors. Why make an appointment if he is 30 minutes late?  Respond

6/17/08 1 1 1 1 He's a joke...No eye contact, no personality. I made my own appointment with a OBGYN, who had me in surgery within weeks, to fix a problem that apparently "didn't exist" to Chapnik.  Respond

6/10/08 1 1 1 2 Dr. Chapnik is very uncaring in my opinion. My elderly parents were patients for 3 years and I have now (thankfully) been able to switch Drs. The wait times were unbearable for elderly people and his lack of interest in their issues was obvious. After a lengthy hospital stay, he didn't even know about, he wasn't at all interested in my mothers' well being. This was after my dad's death which he seemed uninterested in. My pharmacy asked him for a form to be sent to the government to have meds paid for and he was asked monthly for 6 months before I begged his staff for this to happen. As a result, we are out of pocket for almost $200, so far, that will not be reimbursed. In all my years of going to doctors, I have never encountered one who seems so uncaring and uninformed about his patients. He obviously doesn't care because this website hasn't influenced his behaviour. My advice - get another doctor if possible.  Respond

5/7/08 1 4 1 1 Unbelievably cold...receptionist too.Negligent, doesn't care,no class. His lack of knowledge(or perhaps he has the knowledge but not the concern)is inexcusable. He's more interested in keeping his floor clean than the health of his patients.(Note the unpleasant sign that reads,"If you have wet shoes, you will NOT see the doctor".)Obviously he's aware of this rating website but hasn't done a thing to better his business after all the negative remarks.Well, financially,I'm sure he has. I wish that I had seen this site last year.I definitely wouldn't have taken my family back to him and now everything would be fine.  Respond

3/15/08 1 4 1 1 I am concerned that this doctor may be bordering on a fine line. It makes me very uncomfortable to think that a patient has to make medical suggestions to him regarding what might be wrong. I think that he's worse than the others. He does not care, is consumed with getting to the end of his day. His patients feel it, see it and unfortunately hear it. I disagree that he will refer you to another MD. Unfortunately, I think he is heading for disaster and malpractice  See Responses

3/10/08 4 4 4 5 After moving to Aurora we chose Dr. Chapnick as our family doctor. He is strictly business which we like and was extremely thorough. I had been ill for over two years and never had half of the tests in Toronto that he gave me and sent me to a specialist. To make a long story short we are truly grateful for his knowledge and perception of what he felt was wrong with me. After major surgery he follows me closely. We are very grateful for his expertise.  Respond

1/14/08 5 5 5 5 I have been seeing Dr. Chapnik for 2 years now (since he opened) and he has always been good. He was right on with a few things I had going on as a result of a motorcycle accident I had. He correctly identified a few different problems that later I needed surgery to correct that a surgeon also said were problems, so the specialist agreed with his diagnosis. Generally you can just walk in and see him in a short period of time even without an appointment as they do walk in. It's clean and he is straight to the point and doesn't waste a lot of time. By not waisting time I'm not waiting long while he needlessly talks to somebody else about nothing like other doctors. It's in and out and done which is perfect for my busy schedule. I highly recommend Dr. Chapnik  Respond

11/22/07 3 4 4 4 I have been seeing Dr. Chapnik for a few months and I have found his advice to be helpful and informed. Some of these other posters should see some of the other doctors out there! Dr. Chapnik has referred me to appropriate specialists and listens to me when I have an opinion about my health - a rare find in a doctor these days! His manner might be a little cool, but I am going to the doctor, not out for dinner with my best friend. I don't want to spend any longer than I have to be in an office full of sick people. When he doesn't know something about my bizarre autoimmune problems, he tells me how to get the answers. I feel my health is being looked after by Dr. Chapnik and his staff.  Respond

9/17/07 1 5 3 3 just stumbled on this site.. quite humourous actually. Wish it was here for the last quack I stuck it out with for ++years! Dr Chapnik is your typical young doctor in our failing medical system. He is not comfortable with eye contact, or chit chat. That's just him. Patients need to get over it. The day's of Dr Welby are gone. If he gives you competant care, what do you care about his bedside? He has treated me fairly, and yes, I am uncomfortable talking to him due to me sensing his uncomfortableness, but as an older sector patient I am learning to get with the program of 2007 Ontario Health care. I do like him (in a strange sort of way) and I think that given time he will warm to the patients he is caring for. His children will ensure that! :)But for his office staff?Holy crrap....the one that speaks poor English, and looks like her face would crack, needs to replaced, she is a liabilty to this practice. Give your staff a bit more privacy to work too. It looks unprofessional in there.  Respond

9/14/07 3 3 1 1 After many visits with Dr. Chapnik, I would describe him as cold, arrogant, and out-to-lunch. He spends lots of time "seemingly" looking at his notes and looking up at the sky in confused wonderment. He would like you to think he's in deep thought regarding your care, but his head is really in the clouds. I have had many health issues and have seen lots of doctors over the last 30 years and by far Chapnik is the worst practitioner I have experienced. He was very quick to prescribe medication that was not necessary, as I have recently found out by getting a second opinion elsewhere. If you do see Dr. Chapnik, make sure you get a second opinion. I do not trust his judgement and would not see him again.  Respond

6/30/07 4 4 5 5 In Defence of Dr Chapnik and staff.I think Dr Chapnik is very good.I work in the medical profession and I know good from bad. This guy saved my father's life and looks after our family very well.He happens to be actually VERY smart, and that's what I need. His personality is slow to warm, but once you get to know him he is very nice and is quite polite. It is a very busy practise....just look at the wall filled with thousnads of charts next time you go in.They are only human and people can't remember everything.I have never had this doctor act anything but knowledgeable and professional.Thank You to all staff and Dr's at this busy clinic for doing their best.  Respond

5/31/07 5 5 5 As one of the "complete idiots" that works for Dr. Chapnik, I just wanted to say that I am shocked and upset by the rudeness and animosity in the last post, while I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion, I feel that I am entitled to respond. We work very hard in a busy clinic and while organization had been a problem in the past with inexperienced staff it is much better since Diane was hired as she has much more experience in the medical field. I would like to think that the staff are caring and compassionate with all the patients as well as efficient, I am sorry if I seem "slow and confused" if you are kept waiting for an extra 5 minutes while I try to complete one thing at a time. I am not sure if any of you are still patients at this clinic but I would hope that in the future, you will try and clear up your concerns with the Dr's before you post negative comments in this forum. While I do think this site is a good idea, I think it can do alot of damage. Thanks....  See Responses

4/12/07 3 1 1 My wife's experience with Dr. Chapnik during her pregnancy was terrible - he did not follow up with scheduling appointments that he had promised, he was very indecisive with his medical advice, and even tried prescribing anti-biotics to my pregnant wife for a mis-diagnosed "infection". Most of the administrative staff are disorganised, except for one (Diane, I think).  Respond

3/14/07 3 4 4 Victor Chapnik is a young doctor, maybe five years out of his residency. He has some bad habits that are now typical of young people, like answering his cellphone during the physical exam, but he works fast and avoids chitchat, which I prefer. He almost always issues a prescription for something, even if you don't really need it, maybe because people just want drugs nowadays. Most of Chapnik's front office staff and technicians are slow and confused, except for Diane. Some of them have speech and language difficulties that would be unacceptible at other businesses, which makes me think that he hired some family members to work at the clinic. Be careful and double-check all appointments, paperwork, and advice because they often make mistakes.  Respond
