08/02/14 4 5 5 5 I had a TT by Dr. Tumi. Lovely office. Even though the staff seem to be new they are very kind and are trying their best. I'm not sure of the reviews that say Tumi is rough around the edges although he does have a sense of humour that could perhaps muddle people. I thought he was spectacular. Dr. Tumi didn't have a lot of time between my surgery and the next one but he sure didn't rush me through any questions when he came to see me at the recovery area. The follow-up visits don't cost anything and I've had several and unlike some of the reviews suggested, Dr. Tumi does not make you feel like you're not making him any money so he has not time for you. I'm SUPER impressed and would highly recommend Dr. Tumi. Definitely you can trust him from my perspective. Dr. Tumi is better than OK. In fact, I won't leave my e-mail here but if you want to leave yours,I will personally connect with you with my before and after shots so you can see for yourself. Surgery done at RVH. VERY IMPRESSED!

06/01/14 4 5 5 5 I had a blepharoplaty (upper eyelid lift) performed by Dr. Tumi 3 months ago. From the moment I met Dr. Tumi, I found him to be kind, professional, compassionate and very knowledgeable. Practicing due diligence before my surgery, I can tell you that I did visit another plastic surgeon down the road. I am very pleased that I selected Dr. Tumi to perform the procedure. By comparison, he charged a fraction of the price- $2,500 and my hard earned dollars weren't going towards a prissy office, or little sportscar. I just wish I did this 10 years ago! Initially, my eyes felt ****. There was NO pain, just a little discomfort. By day 3 the glue used over the incision was peeling off, and by day 7, I was able to go out in public with minimal makeup. I would not hesitate to recommend him or use him again in the future.  Respond

05/08/13 5 5 5 5 I am not a "Doctor seeing kind of guy". I have been a mechanic for over 20 years and ended up with numb hands and very sore elbows. I was told by a nerve specialist that I had: severe bi-lateral carpal tunnel and two compressed ulnar nerves. I was then referred to Dr.Tumi. I met with Dr.Tumi about 4 weeks later. I found him to be kind, caring and very knowledgeable about my condition. I was scheduled for right arm carpal tunnel release and ulnar nerve transposition surgery two weeks later. Six months after that, he did the same operation on my left arm. Dr.Tumi is an remarkable surgeon, he is an artist with a scalpel. I found his bedside manner very comforting; the OR staff outstanding and his office staff very professional. I feel extremely lucky to have had Dr.Tumi preform my operation. This doctor did the impossible, he stopped my constant pain. Thank-you Dr.Tumi!  Respond

02/05/13 5 5 5 5 I just had upper eyelid surgery. I honestly do not know why people say " I would not trust any doctor in Barrie with my face" when there is such a wonderful, kind and compassionate doctor as Dr. Tumi and right here in Barrie. I really did my research saw two doctors in Toronto both were very expensive and not very helpfull two here in Barrie. One wanted to do both upper and lower lifts and I am very happy with my lower no bags at all. So Dr. Tumi won me over from his staff to the fact he really cares. I am still swollen and a bit bruised but the scare is hidden in the fold and the droopy lids are gone!! Im am so happy with the result. Definately recommend Dr. Tumi!  Respond

22/04/13 5 5 5 5 ohip patient - I was given platinum care and treatment from first appointment to follow up after surgery I feel very blessed that Dr.Tumi is available in northern Ontario. He is a top notch plastic surgeon and professional. Nothing Hollywood about his practice go try out the cosmetic office that advertises on television beside Tim Horton's. I did ...they will not even take ohip patients and I would be scared to wake up with a trout pout or double d's I was treated like a second class citizen there. No your complaints are not valid this doctor cares and is skilled and endeavours to accommodate your every needs and them some. I have had plastic surgery many times before and I am an anxiety ridden patient but his tolerance before and my results after my procedure have restored my faith in our medical system having world class specialist available at no cost. Feel free to ask me any questions about my comments

11/02/13 1 3 1 3 In January I was scheduled to have a minor procedure done by Dr Tumi. The day of the surgery I came down with the flu. It was hitting most of the town at that time.. Our local hospital (probably like many) will not operate on you if you come down with any kind of bug. We phoned the department I was suppose to report to and spoke to the nurse on duty. She said we did the right thing by cancelling and everything would be taken care of. Now we are getting notices from Tumi's office saying we owe him $150.00 and threatening us with a 5% monthly charge if unpaid. This is not only beyond insensitive it's unprofessional. He was rude and uncaring during my initial exam with him and literally rushed me out the door. Hi staff was not much better. The entire appointment was under 5 minutes. I shrugged it off originally but that combined with these office threats tells me that my initial feeling about him was right. Best avoided!

12/01/13 4 4 4 4 03-27-11 To improve a breast birth defect which was causing me much discomfort, I had liposuction breast reduction surgery. As a result, I live now in a more comfortable body because of Dr. Tumi's amazing surgical skills. Fortunate am I/us to have Dr. Tumi a highly qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon making Barrie his place of work. Many areas of the world my only option would be continued distress. I did my best to work with Dr. Tumi and all his helpers from secretaries to many hospital staff,to improve my problem. Physicians and their staffs have challenging jobs working with their clients' personalities, plus their own. Therefore, I strive to work with them and their staff even in the event they have error. Helping them to help me is always my best choice. And helping me they did; for which I am very appreciative.  Respond

26/03/12 4 4 5 5 Due to asymmetrical breasts, Dr Tumi performed a breast lift on one side and an augmentation (375cc) on the other. Dr Tumi was very patient and understanding. He listened to my preferences and desires. I am trilled with the results. I can now throw on a regular shirt, head out the door and not worry about if my breasts look symmetrical. Keeping in mind the challenge of correcting such asymmetry breasts I know Dr Tumi is a very talented surgeon, I would definitely recommend Dr Tumi.  Respond

19/07/11 4 5 4 5 I had a breast reduction in April.Unlike many people I know who have had breast reductions I was kept at the hospital for the first night, provided with homecare for 2 weeks and given 6 weeks off work for recovery. Homecare came daily to check my incisions, change my dressings, remove drains & stitches and answer any questions. They provided a full box of dressings and supplies @ no cost to me. Pain management was not an issue. I received T3's upon discharge and only needed them for 4 days. I had no complications and am very pleased with the results. Dr. Tumi provides a very high level of care for his patients and was always very warm, kind and caring. Have definitely recommend Dr. Tumi to other people considering plastic surgery.  Respond

He was very knowledgable and made me feel very much at ease with the whole procedure. He and his staff were very prompt in getting back to me when I called a few times with questions and concerns. They were all so friendly and I will always be grateful for the newfound confidence Dr. Tumi has given me!

24/05/11 2 2 1 1 Dr. Tumi did a breast reduction on me in May 2010. In recovery rm after, he told me that one of the nipples was necrotic. The drainage tubes were working, but the necrotic breast didn't have any fluid. For three months I was very sick. I couldn't lift my head off the pillows on days. I kept asking him why he wouldn't remove the lge scab on my breast. He kept telling me it should fall off on its own. The nurses disagreed saying they were worried what was underneath the scab. Finally one appt I asked again. He got very angry with me and said he knew why I wanted to remove the scab, because it was unsitely. I said no I was sick. Finally a wound nurse put a large rubber bandage on it and filled it with a gel to loosen the scab. He got angry because when he removed the bandage the smell was so vile he choked. He finally cut off the scab with a scalpel and used gloves he took off the counter. It took six mths to heal from the gangrene and I lost 1/3 of my breast tissue.  Respond

18/06/10 4 5 5 5 Dr. Tumi is one of the finest doctors we have had. He is a consummate professional, kind, caring, approachable and knowledgeable. He performed surgeries on my husband more than once for skin cancer and at all times went the extra mile to explain the procedures, outcome etc. I cannot understand the negative attitudes of these former patients. We have never encountered this in our visits to him and in our hospital experiences with him. Dr. Tumi does not deserve this kind of negative criticism. He is a great doctor and very good at what he does. It appears that most of the criticism is from cosmetic surgery patients. We all want to look like Hollywood stars, but a doctor can only work with what he is given. I highly recommend Dr. Tumi to anyone who asks and we would go back to him in a heartbeat if necessary. Thank you Dr. Tumi for all you have done for so many grateful patients.  Respond

14/06/10 1 1 1 1 I went to see him for severe joint problems in my hands. The office walls were so thin I could here other consultations while sitting in the waiting room. He looked at my hands and I asked why he or his staff had not called me back after telling me he would call me later that day, 6 months ago. I also called 3x and was told curtly by his receptionist that he had not put any followup on my chart. He was so nasty when I questioned him he told me to go back to my rheumatologist and called the women at the RVH physio dept. airheads. I was outraged at his nasty unprofessional behavior. He ranted on for 10 minutes then when he opened the door he acted like he was a super gentleman again. The receptionist obviously had heard him yelling at me and wouldn't make eye contact. I certainly see a difference in how his private clients who pay high fees get treated with respect versus the ones who are covered by OHIP. This man is an arrogant little man and does not deserve your business.  See Responses

09/04/10 3 4 5 5 Dr. Tumi is confident but not arogant, he is an artist and a skilled surgeon. My only issue with the office was the clueless secretaries who twice messed up booking appointments and weren't exeptionally professional but they are worth putting up with to have Dr. Tumi as my surgeon. Even the hospital nurses were impressed by the results of my tummy tuck. I had surgery less than 6wks after my first consultation and Dr. Tumi was very proactive in talking to the anestetist about me wanting a spinal and made sure I got what I wanted. I was feeling well enough to walk arround after 5 days and healed by 6wks. My homecare nurse said at 3 days I looked like I'd been healing for 10. All in all an amazing experience with no complications. I would recomend Dr. Tumi to anyone.  Respond

18/03/10 5 4 5 5 Dr Tumi was very helpful and confident. He met with me several times before and after my surgery and was very clear about all the details of my surgery and recovery. Thanks Dr. Tumi!  Respond

23/01/10 3 5 5 5 Dr. Tumi is a very humble, kind, compassionate and gentle man whose surgical skills are exceptional. He listens to the needs of his patients and discusses in great detail every possible risk and benefit of any proposed surgery. He also takes the time to answer a patient's questions and makes himself available to address any concerns that might arise both pre and post-op. The members of his surgical team who work alongside Dr. Tumi are supportive and caring, the safety of the patient always being their first priority. Dr. Tumi is a gifted surgeon, a man with high moral standards and obvious deep-rooted family values. He has been a surgeon for my daughter and for myself and has treated our family with great kindness and respect. It is truly an honour and a privilege to know him.  Respond

03/11/09 5 5 5 5 I am shocked by the negative comments about Dr. Tumi. I had an OHIP covered bilateral breast reduction. There was no ridiculous waiting period for a consultation, as others have complained about. I was treated with respect and put at ease during the consultation. The waiting list is long to get an OHIP covered breast reduction, but I believe this is true no matter where you are in Ontario; happily I was bumped up by 6 months. The procedure went exactly as he described. My nurse afterwards said he is absolutely top notch at breast surgeries and based on my result, I couldn't agree more. The cherry on the cake of this experience that he has been one of the most pleasant, personable, kindest doctors I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. What a lovely man! I would definately recommend Dr. Tumi to anyone. A+++  Respond

04/06/09 2 2 1 1 I went to Dr.Tumi for a minor procedure which he had promised me would have great results with minor scarring...well since the procedure I have had to go to another surgeon in Toronto to help me with my scarring as it is so aggressive. Dr.Tumi was unable to provide me with answers or solutions and has now defaced my body forever. Dr.Tumi will give excuses until the end but I will never be able to reverse what he has done. 16/10/08 4 4 5 5 Have to admit to being very nervous about going to see Dr. Tumi initially after reading some of the comments on here. I found Dr. Tumi to be polite and to the point. He was thoughtful of my comfort before surgery and caring and considerate after my breast reduction surgery.I had a complication after the surgery which he saw to promptly. He was nothing like the Doctor some people have portrayed him to be. I have had the opportunity to see him interact with other patients and he has always seemed friendly and approachable. 30/09/08 1 1 1 1 I couldn't even get IN to have a CONSULTATION with this doctor! I got my family doctor to recommend me to a surgeon to get a breast reduction done and she recommended me to Tumi. I got referred in February and my consultation was not going to be made available until August! That should have been my first red flag right there! Anyways, the week of my consultation rolls around, and his secretaries call me telling me he needs to rescheudle because he decided to skip town for the week and push everything back. I got rescheduled until September 6th. They called back the 5th and asked the reschedule again-this time giving no reason. I was rescheduled until the 21st. They called me AGAIN the day before, asking if I could postpone my appointment on the 21st and come in later that day rather than at my scheduled time. I called in later that night and left a nasty voicemail, stating my annoyance over the fact that I had waited almost a year to see-and never even got to meet. GARBAGE!  See Responses

02/07/08 2 5 5 5 I first had read the several entrys here on Rate MDs.com, and I was nervous about seeing Dr. Tumi as there was a lot of negative comments. I needed liposuction done and when I seen Dr. Tumi he was very kind, helpful, to the point, and respectful. He made me comfortable right away, he answerd all my questions and was eager the help me. He also charged me a resonable price for the procedure. So, from the first consoltation to the follow-up after the surgery, Dr. Tumi was great ! I would definately recomend him to anyone in need of cosmetic surgery. Although, I would recomend that Dr. Tumi has a secretary that is more organized, and knows her job.  Respond

19/09/07 4 5 1 2 Not only is he not helpful, I am another OHIP patient that he wouldn't even consider sending paper work in for. He DIDN'T EVEN EXAMINE ME so has no real concept of what I look like under my clothes. He didn't ask or inquire about health related problems and or infections. He assumed because I have always been large breasted that it's no big deal. DOES NOT want to provide OHIP covered panniculectomy because it is merely 'functional' and didn't like the fact that I had done my reasearch on the procedures as well as him as a physician prior to seeing him this morning. I have been home exactly 10 minutes and have come here to warn women against putting their self esteem in the hands of this man. He is unsympathetic and if you don't fall into his vision of 'perfect' then he is rude to the point of ambivalence. He's not looking to help the patient, he is looking to line his pockets. Had opted to pay out of pocket for part of the procedure then I'm sure he would have been my best friend.  Respond

He will not try to have it covered by OHIP and with a patient that has been off for a couple of illnesses and can't afford to get done what needs to be done. He won't even try to put it through OHIP as he doesn't think they will approve it. We youdon't know unless you try. He has done one surgery on me and only did half of what he was supposed to do. 12/03/07 5 5 5 Dr. Tumi: one of the kindest and most forthright doctors I have ever encountered. Follows medical guidelines, procedures very strictly. Excellent doctor. Very professional. Highly ethical, moral. Will never gouge a patient's wallet. Very decent guy. A positive, to-the-point attitude: that's just his style. Regarding his surgical procedures: excellent, no complaints. Only thing you need to beware of?: His two secretaries at his Quarry Ridge Road office. Especially the one that joined later. Both determined to breach patient confidentiality. Confidentiality was severely breached in my case. Forget that your file will remain confidential, thanks to the two secretaries. The one that joined after, is ultra evil. The other one's better. The newer one was making fun of her boss in a **** way when I once entered the room. He should fire the newer one or both. Encourage him to hire new secretaries. If this was the United States, I would have sued both those secretaries by now.  Respond
