:| Click to report rating *  6/4/09 4 5 1 The only reason I keep going back to this doctor is because I believe he is one of the best in his field. On my last visit he got quite angry regarding our difference of opinion about using HRT (I chose not to use it) and also felt insulted about some of the comments he made. I left, shaking my head, vowing to never go back, but as I stated earlier, I can at least respect his abilities and feel like I don't really have a choice.

:| Click to report rating    4/17/09 5 4 2 I was referred to Dr. Ahman because I wanted to know more about certain types of birth control as I was about to be married. He talked as if he knew a lot, but I went for 2nd opinions and was told very different things. Overall, I was not happy with my appt with him and will not go back to him. He is also very blunt and rude at times. I do not think that such a person should be allowed to do what he does!

:) Click to report rating    4/15/09 5 5 5 He works to accurately diagnos all issues and offers tangible solutions. He explains everything thoroughly, even addressing things you may know to ask. He is a great surgeon, and the follow-ups are thorough as well. The attention to detail he offers eased my experience. Dr.Ahman is outstanding & Donna in the office is informative, warm, & welcoming!

:) Click to report rating    8/27/08 5 5 5 After reading some reviews here, I was prepared for Dr. Ahman's rather blunt approach. I went in with an open mind and a sense of humour and I found him to be extremely knowledgeable, helpful and concerned about my issue. After years of suffering with a chronic problem, Dr Ahman provided me with a solution that has significantly improved my qualitify of life. I would not hesitate to recommend this doctor, just expect that he will be very blunt and direct and is not a "hand-holder" type.

:) Click to report rating    7/25/08 5 5 5 Dr. Ahman saved my life. I am 35 and he was able to catch my cervical cancer before it spread. As a result of my cervical cancer/chemo etc. I made the choice to not have children, and to have a hysterectomy. Dr. Ahman did my hysterectomy, and was so kind and helpful throughout the initial diagnosis, when I broke down in tears in his office, to being professional yet kind, at all my follow up appointments. I go once a year now to see him for a check up, and I look forward to my appointment, so we can catch up with how we've both been all year and what's new. He told me that he has daughters and that I remind him of his one daughter. I thought that was very sweet.

:) Click to report rating    5/1/08 5 5 5 Dr. Ahman is a great dr. I saw him for a prolonged period after having complications after delivery (he did not deliver the baby). He was very knowledgable and supportive. I wouldn't have wanted any other dr.

:) Click to report rating    1/21/08 5 4 5 Dr. Frank Ahmen was very professional and gave me exceptional care. He took time to explain the results of a bad PAP test and also showed me with pictures & books some examples of what needed to be treated and how. He did refer to some previous treatment I had had years before by another doctor but I was not offended as I was faced with the same problem and the initial treatment given by the other doctor was not effective. He does have sarcastic humor, which 'I get' and appreciate although it appears that many before me have possibly misinterpreted his humor for poor bedside manner. I think he is very humerous, very knowledgable, certainly caring and provided exams and treatment with exceptional care and expertise. I am well, my family is pleased. Thank you Dr. Ahmen. =)

:( Click to report rating    1/10/08 5 4 1 I am very disappointed with this "dr.". I had seen him for several years and was unhappy with his bedside manner - very curt and abrupt - but I couldn't find another Dr. On one appt. he complained about the cost of medical instruments and said he'd never get compensated. I didn't know how to respond. He wanted to book me in for a biopsy, I waited and found out from a ultrasound, the biopsy was uneeded. thank goodness I waited for the results of the ultrasound test first. This last appt. he said I needed surgery. I said I'd think about it and check out my options and would get back to him. I asked a straight forward question, he barked an answer at me. He said if I didn't have the surgery, he would not be my Dr. Immediately, he stood up, shook my hand and said goodbye dismissing me as his patient. I was shocked. My GP said the surgery is not necessary right away and we could wait and see, menopause will usually clear this problem up on it's own. I will never go back to this Dr.

:) Click to report rating    7/9/07 5 3 3 I saw Dr. Ahman only a few times, but he seemed to be very dedicated to his job and to his patients. I appreciated that he squeezed me in for an emergency appointment even though he was fully booked and his receptionist Donna is wonderful. Even though he was busy working at the hospital, after I had an emergency ultrasound (an appt he arranged for me in an hour), he took the time to meet with me. I really felt comfortable with him and believe he is a good doctor. Explains things well to you in terms you can understand and was very nice. Seemed very down-to-earth and I appreciated all the help he gave to me.

:( Click to report rating    5/28/07 3 1 I was in the delivery room when this ogre came in to look at my wife. After about 2 mintues I wanted to kick him out. He was administering pelvic exams on my wife and she was in pain, and he said, and I quote, "You do not have to be a baby about it, it does not hurt that bad." I am sorry, but how does he know what hurts. They tried the vaccum to get our child out and then without thought he said lets get the forcepts. Then gladly our family doctor came in and said, YOU DO NOT NEED FORCEPTS AT ALL. This guy was a total ass, and I recommend that if his name is on the list when you are at MSA, that you try to get your baby out as quick as possible.

:( Click to report rating    5/22/07 1 1 Bedside manner is troll like; He has no respect for women. He is unprofessional, and makes comments about other doctors decisions and performance of duty. He does not take responsibility for what he says or does. If it was up to him I would have had a hysterectomy for a prolapsed bowel. I have had surgury to correct it and have not felt better in years.

:) Click to report rating    5/3/07 5 5 I met Dr.Ahman in the Grace hospital in Halifax,in fall 1984. I was alone in ward, forgotten mostly, far away from home and had placenta abruta. He helped me maintain my pregnancy until I could deliver my son in January 1985. My son is now 22, graduating Acadia University in a week and literally, my sun. To me, Dr. Ahman exemplifies everything true, wonderful and good about being a doctor and the Hippocratic oath in a time when that seems to be an exception and not the norm. If you read this Dr. Ahman think of cocoanut cream pie and folding scissors and you will hopefully remember a very grateful patient.

:) Click to report rating    4/20/07 4 5 I saw Dr. Ahman once. I was in the hospital because of a very bad bladder infection, and found out I was also having a miscarrage. Dr. Ahman came to see me and gave me 2 options - 1. I could go home and allow things to go naturally, or 2. Since I was already there and had my IV. (antibiotics for the bladder infection) I could have a D&C. He gave me my options and I chose to stay and do the D&C. He explained to me what I didn't understand, and answered all my questions. I found Dr. Ahman to be a pleasant, professinal man, I would't hesitate to see him again. (Just hopefully not under the same circumstances!!)

:( Click to report rating    4/13/07 4 1 A few years ago I was referred to Dr. Ahman for a prolapse condition. He asked many very personally intrusive questions, mainly concerned with my sex life, or lack of. He said the sex act would push things back into place. I am of English extraction, and recognizing my accent he several times mentioned that his mother was English, though I don't know what that had to do with anything. After an exhaustive physical examination, he annouced there was nothing that could be done, but that if I became unable to have bowel movements, I should come back right away. I left there with visions of eventually have a bag. In the meantime the discomfort gradually increased and greatly restricted my life. Due to moving, I had a new doctor who sent me to another gynecologist who cheerfully said he could repair the prolapse, which he did. He said Dr. Ahman was well thought of by some patients, but that he'd said the surgery it couldn't be done because he didn't like doing it!

:) Click to report rating    4/9/07 4 4 Dr Ahman was the doctor on duty when I had my non-stress test done on my unborn baby. My baby's heart rate suddenly started dropping and he made the call to perform an emergency c-section right then and there (I was already at 42 weeks so I was due for an induction the next day). I'm very glad he chose to do that, as it ended up being the right decision for both me and my baby. He was quite blunt with his description of the affects of the surgery and what the possible outcome could be, but he was realistic. My doctor told me afterwards that Dr. Ahman did an amazing job on the surgery and on the sutchering, my scar is hardly visible and I recovered extremely well. I was discharged after only 2 days and felt very good for the first couple weeks. I had a friend who had Dr. Ahman as well and her experience was not good, he told her she had miscarried one of her twins when she hadn't. He told her this without even doing any tests. She asked for a new doctor obviously.

:( Click to report rating    4/2/07 1 1 Dr Ahman was the doctor on call while I was hospitalized. Initially he did not even introduce himself. He tried to discharge me from hospital 15 hours after three different surgeries. I was still pumped full of meds and still attached to the catheter(s), His comments about my doctor were unprofessional. He said that my doctor had done the wrong surgery on me. After leaving, he came back and he told me not to tell my doctor he said that. The next day - I was scheduled to be discharged. I sat in the hospital waiting to be discharged. When staff finally got a response after tracking him down on the golf course, enjoying the sunshine at 5:15 pm, I was discharged over the phone. He was once again rude and obnoxious making comments about the meds my Dr had prescribed. His behaviour was extremely unprofessional & rude, he outright lied to me. Any person who uses this doctor is most unfortunate. I can not find one positive thing to say about him.

:( Click to report rating    3/26/07 2 1 Dr. Ahman did not give me all of the options available for my medical condition. I got a second opinion after his blunt approach to women and his profession. I have a new doctor now and have received more information and better care regarding my situation.

:( Click to report rating    3/15/07 3 1 I saw this doctor once and either he was having a bad day or? He couldn't understand why I found pelvic exams unconfortable and as well, I was telling him about a procedure that I had heard about, he got very angry told me "don't tell me how to do my job!" I was quite shocked by his rude manner. He needs to review his "Dr's Bedside Manners" manual and if he hasn't got a copy, would somebody please send him one.
