:( Click to report rating    12/5/09 2 1 1 I thought Dr. Nakisbendi listened, but misheard a lot and was too cautious not to hurt my feelings that she didn't address important issues like the importance of losing weight. She was so focused on mind/body- which I agree is important, but she focused on the mind and not the body and she missed a very simple diagnosis for quite awhile. (Picked up when I ended up in the ER because the pain got so bad that I decided it wasn't in my head no matter what Dr. Nakisbendi was telling me.) I love the mind-body approach, just not the way Dr. Nakisbendi uses it. You have to have your own confidence in yourself to know when you are right if you use her and be willing to get a second opinion. Better yet-- just see someone else first, she tries too hard to be a psychiatrist and a GYN simultaneously and I think she gets confused.

:) Click to report rating    11/3/09 5 5 5 I followed Dr. Nakisbendi from her ob/gyn practice at lankenau. she is truly a wonderful doctor, because mostly she listens. she is treating the whole person, so understanding about my weight issues. would NEVER make me feel bad about that like some doctors. her office is like a safe zone for anything and everything.

:( Click to report rating    6/12/09 1 1 1 My experience with Dr. Nakisbendi was not so good, and it had nothing to do with her not accepting insurance. I actually see more than one doctor that doesn't accept insurance (at least not my insurance). My problem is that Dr. Nakisbendi misinterprets every word out of my mouth, which caused her to misdiagnose a problem that might have been relatively simple had she spent a little more time listening, and a little less time interpreting.

:) Click to report rating    6/11/09 5 5 5 Dr. Kara Nakisbendi is a brilliant doctor. She has changed the quality of my life by really listening and figuring out what exactly was ailing me. She looked at the whole person, doing the job of 4 doctors. I can recommend her highly. Very talented and caring.

:) Click to report rating    5/19/09 5 5 5 Top Doc! The people on this site who complained must have had bigger issues (ie., does not accept insurance.) I want a doctor to ASK questions and even better, to listen. I have never waited more than 10 minutes. Ever.

:) Click to report rating    1/4/09 5 5 5 She was not only on time for my appoinment, but Dr Nakisbendi spent a long time discussing my situation before examining me...I never felt rushed. She later called re tests and again explained everything well. This was followed up by another call after she spoke to my other physician. My first impression of her has been very positive in every way.

:) Click to report rating    12/5/08 4 4 5 I am amazed at the comments here about having to wait for this doctor. I have never waited more than 10 minutes, and frequently less. I was referred to her by doctors whom I regard highly, and have no reason to be disappointed with her care. On the contrary, I appreciate her concern, her advice, her time [I have never felt rushed], and her knowledge. I also like the fact that she looks at the whole person, not just at a collection of body parts; that's what being a holistic practitioner is all about, as opposed to traditional male doctors trained in the 1950's and 60's..... Perhaps some women are not used to her newer approach? And by the way, I have never been approached by her or by any staff about any additional services [yoga et al.]. They are there for the asking, and that suffices. I think it's good that they are available, for those who may be interested.

:) Click to report rating    11/18/08 5 5 5 I am very surprised by the negative reviews posted. I've been seeing Dr. Nakisbendi for 3 years and have never waited more than 10 minutes for my appointment and have never been rushed out of her office or examination room. I needed an appointment today and received one straight away (there was a cancellation). I was in the waiting room less than 5 minutes. She has NEVER even mentioned any of the other services available though her practice and has always listened patiently to anything I've had to say. I can't speak to her ability to diagnose problems, because fortunately until now I haven't had any. I'll report back when this one is resolved (or not).

:( Click to report rating    9/9/08 1 1 1 Not worth the money. I went because I thought that since I was paying out of pocket I would get extra time and attention, but I waited longer to see Dr. Nakisbendi than I waited to see my previous GYN (who was perfectly nice and a great doc, I just thought a smaller practice would be a nice change). Dr. Nakisbendi was over an hour late for my appointment, staying dressed during the initial history taking was nice, but my previous GYN did that too, and I didn't think that Dr. Nakisbendi was any less rushed than any other GYN I've been to. I guess I just expected that since I was paying out of pocket, the service would be better than what I get at a practice limited by insurance company miseries. I didn't feel I got anything extra for the money-- but I did feel that Dr. Nakisbendi did try to push some of her other services like accupuncture on me, which I did not appreciate. I like complementery medicine, just not having it shoved down my throat. I'll be back to my old GYN next yr!

:( Click to report rating    8/23/08 1 1 1 I thought the talking part was nice too, I just wish she had known a little more about what she was talking about. I guess she's fine if all you need is a routine PAP, because it's kind of hard to mess up on that, but if you are having pain or odd symptoms because as a diagnostician, she needs a lot of work. I left her practice after suffering with pain that she had convinced me was all in my head. I was more than a little relieved when my second gynecologist showed my an ultrasound and bloodwork that proved it wasn't, and that there were ways to manage the condidtion I have. And no matter what-- ALWAYS leave extra time when you go to see her, she's always at least a hour late.

:) Click to report rating    8/12/08 5 5 5 I thought Dr Nakisbendi was a fantastic dr. I have been to several gynos in the past several years and have not liked any of them, until now. Dr Nakisbendi took the time to talk to me, in her office, fully clothed, prior to our appt. She was very nice, helpful, professional and had great bedside manner. I am so lucky to have finally found a dr i like and trust.

:( Click to report rating    5/20/08 2 1 1 I wish Dr. Nakisbendi had taken the time to get to know me. I felt like she was really rushed when I saw her, which was frustrating both because of the amount of money I paid and because she was over an hour late (which she did not apologize for). I was very unhappy with my experience with her.

:) Click to report rating    5/15/08 5 4 5 It is lovely when doctors actually take the time in getting to know their patients... I found Dr. Nakisbendi does exactly this and truly cares. I would absolutely go back! Not accepting insurance is frustrating, however the care you receive is worth it... we are worth it.

:( Click to report rating    2/22/08 1 1 1 I found Dr. Nakisbendi very pushy and intrusive. She wanted to know every detail of my life, and while I think it's great when doctors take time to get to know their patients, there can be too much of a good thing. She also pushed me to try out all of these services that are associated with her practice, and again while it's nice when doctors recognize complimentary healing techniques such as acupuncture, I felt like Dr. Nakisbendi was personally insulted when I told her that I practice yoga elsewhere and I'm not interested in any of the services her practice offers-- I really just needed a GYN who was a good doctor and reasonably nice person. I initially thought Dr. nakisbendi was nice, but she kind of gave me the cold shoulder after I turned down the acupuncture etc... As I mentioned previously, I am all for complimentary healing practices, but I don't like having them forced upon me.

:( Click to report rating    2/14/08 1 1 1 I went to Dr. Nakisbendi after my former GYN retired because I had heard from a friend a year or two ago that Dr. Nakisbendi was excellent. I was really disappointed, I waited much longer than I would have expected (close to 2 hours) and then I felt like Dr. Nakisbendi rushed me. She seemed more interested in telling me about all the services offered through her practice than in listening to me or in answering questions I had. When I went back and talked to the friend who had reccomended her, I found out that since Dr. Nakisbendi has opened her new "women's center" she's not as good a doctor as she used to be-- I guess she became more focused on being a businesswoman than being a doctor.

:( Click to report rating    2/7/08 1 1 1 I once asked Dr. Nakisbendi if I had PCOS. She told me that my ultrasound was normal and that there was NO WAY I had PCOS even though I had all of the other symptoms. When I mentioned my symptoms, she told me I was fine, and basically dismissed my concerns. I was unhappy with the way she treated me. When it was time for my next annual I found another provider who told me that it's possible to have PCOS and still have a normal ultrasound. She did some blood work and told me my hormones indicated PCOS, and that I'd developed insulin resistance. (And, shortly after that, a repeat ultrasound showed the classic presentation of PCOS). I went to Dr. Nakisbendi because she was supposed to be really knowledgeable, but I guess she doesn't know polycystic ovary syndrome- which is disappointing since she's a GYN.

:( Click to report rating    1/5/08 1 1 1 NEVER on time, which wouldn't be bad if the visit was worth the wait. I felt that Dr. Nakisbendi did a lot more talking than listening. I've had a very hard time getting her to respond to phone calls and getting an appointment when I needed one. Additionally, I asked a lot of questions and raised a lot of concerns that Dr. Nakisbendi didn't answer, or just brushed off.

:) Click to report rating    7/6/07 5 5 5 I am a dentist and an attorney and I know medicine. Dr, Nakisbendi is excellent. When reading comments on this site remember that the people who comment are frequently the ones who are disgruntled. That's why these write in sites can be quite misleading. In my case, Dr. Nakisbendi literally saved my life and care at her office has always been excellent. This is a great doc with great credentials. If you can find a gynecologist who is friendly, who spends time with you and who actually cares, this makes all the difference. I am willing to pay for real care and fees ere not excessive anyway. If I had had and in-an-out doc I would have been terminal with endometrial cancer.

:( Click to report rating    7/4/07 1 1 1 Dr. Nakisbendi is nice enough, but she missed a basic diagnosis that left me in pain for longer than necessary. She claims to be really open and all that, but when I said to her, "Could my symptoms be caused by X?" she flatly told me no. I ended up getting an ultrasound at the suggestion of my primary care doc, which led to a diagnosis of exactly the condition I had asked Dr. Nakisbendi about. When I tried talking to Dr. Nakisbendi about it, she was all defensive. Needless to say, I am getting treatment elsewhere.

:) Click to report rating    6/27/07 5 5 One of the most caring physicians I have ever met. Takes the time to understand the patient and the problem. Does not rush through exams. Wonderful, wonderful Doc

:( Click to report rating    3/28/07 1 1 I waited more than 2 hours to see Dr. Nakisbendi. She is a very kind person, but not a good doctor. I spent a year seeing her because I was constantly in pain, but I should have realized sooner that she just thought it was related to stress. (I kind of agree with the comment that she's trying too hard to be a psychologist comment). It took another doctor 1 visit to tell me that she thought I had endometriosis, after 3 months of other treatments failing, my new doc did minor surgery, confirmed and removed my endo. Dr. Nakisbendi is a nice person, but if you are in any pain or having problems-- see someone else.

:( Click to report rating    3/27/07 1 2 The no insurance thing is a problem. She is a very nice doctor, but she also wants to know everything about you. Most of the time that's a good thing, but Dr. Nakisbendi takes it too far and gets too involved. It's like she wants to be both a gynecologist and a psychologist. Also, she is NEVER on time-- she's never been less than half an hour late, once she was 2 HOURS late...

:) Click to report rating    2/26/07 4 5 I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Nakisbendi. She is so friendly and sweet. She really goes above and beyond the duties of a doctor. She is also extremely knowledgeable and always willing to explain what's going on.
