12/7/10 3 1 1 2 One hour late. Inserted rectal probe into vagina and reacted poorly when told. did not apologize but commented on proximity. Stopped sigmoidoscopy procedure to book full colonoscopy. No time to listen to concerns.  Respond

4/3/09 5 3 5 5 Dr. Farries is very intelligent and always has the patients best interest in mind. When he is late for appointments he is usually at the hospital caring for patients there and if I have to wait I will because if it was me in the hospital I would want to see him. He prioritizes where he is needed most and doesn't feel he has to explain this to me(the patient), that is why I don't complain when he is late. He is never ever "sloppy" as someone has stated, in fact he is the complete opposite and is a perfectionist. If anyone has complaints I suggest you look at his website or talk to his office because he is very straight forward, all you have to do is ask so there is NO NEED TO TRASH TALK.  Respond

3/15/09 5 4 5 5 Dr Farries is a very good surgeon. He always has the best interest of the patient at heart. If he is unhappy with one of his clients.. it is because he knows they are NOT following his pre or postoperative orders. To those who complain.. how much experience do you have as a surgeon? After you have done as many lifesaving surgeries as Dr. Farries has, then (and only then) do you have the right to make comments about his techniques. As far as punctuality.. Emergencies always take priority, and if you have to wait an extra hour in his office so he can finish up a surgery.. suck it up.  Respond

2/4/09 4 1 5 5 Dr. Farries is a great Doctor. He is also very often rude, abrupt and caustic. I beleive he is so over worked that there is simply no room for B.S. in his manner, so he accepts none. If you're looking for a warm pat on the back and a grandfatherly warmth, see your pastor/preist. You won't find it in Dr. Farries. What you will find is a science minded, direct and precise approach to your medical problem. Leave the drama at home, and only show up if you are willing to do as he asks.  Respond

1/20/09 3 2 5 5 Dr. Farries is a great and wonderful surgeon. I have unfortuneately needed several surgeries over the years that Dr. Farries has been in Red Deer and he has done each one. I would have no one else do them as he is a gem. If you feel that he has no mannerisms some days maybe he was up all night saving a life. I have no complaints.  Respond

7/31/08 4 1 4 4 I have heard many good things about Dr. Farries abilities as a surgeon. However, he is NEVER on time (I have waited close to 3 hours more than once) and it seems to me that he is being harder on me than many of his other patients, and I am not sure why. I have spoken to many of his weight loss patients while waiting to see him, and even though their results with the pre-surgery weight loss aren't any better than mine (and in some cases worse), they got their surgery date quicker than I have. There have been times that I thought I did well and he was not happy with my progress, as well as times that I thought I did awful and was almost ready to throw in the towel, and he assured me that I was doing fine and should be content with the progress I was making. It seems like if you go into his office feeling defeated, he easily convinces you that though there is room for improvement, you are doing well, so keep up the good work.  Respond

6/17/08 5 1 5 5 After one year, I have lost more than 1/2 my body weight. I was 240 pds and now a wonderful 118 lbs. He was a proffessional throughout the entire process. I believe any of his patience that didn't like him reflects totally on the fact that they didn't get their way in regards to presurgery weight loss requirements and the fact that he doesn't feel sorry for them because they are obese. I would use him for any surgery I may ever need again. Thank you Dr. Farries...Dawn Innisfail.  Respond

6/3/08 5 3 4 5 I have been seeing Dr. Farries off and on for 5 years. He took me on as a patient when he didn't have to. He continues to be available, helpful and knowledgeable. I too think he has a soft side and his busyness brings up the other side. Be "patient" during appointments, he will give you the answers to your questions and above all you will have what everyone wants, an amazing Doctor you can trust with your life.  Respond

5/12/08 4 3 5 5 This Doctor saved my life. He may come across as arrogant etc, however he doesn't play around, nor does he beat around the bush. I asked hundreds of questions, and he answered them all. I had MAJOR surgery, a gastric bypass, and I have had NO complications. His bed side manner was incredible, and I felt 100% confident in his abilities. He DOES have a tender side, you just have to be looking for it. He is an amazing surgeon.  Respond

12/26/07 5 1 5 5 Dr Farries is a GREAT surgeon. He may be late a lot but the patients lives he saves more than make up for it. He may not have time for warm fuzzies for every patient but what seriously overworked Dr does? No complaints at all from me.  Respond

11/26/07 3 1 2 4 Dr. Farries is an arrogant/narcisictic man, who seems to dehumanize his patients. He was adversarial and threatened by my many questions and ideas as to how I may heal best. He was quick to medicate even though there was no clear diagnosis. No indicators as to infection, and when they were refused by me, he became very dismissive as though offended that I wanted to be involved in all treatments. I suspect this surgeon may need to stick with emergency room procedures so he can leave the human condition/need to be safe/ to more capable physicians who have the ability to respect and value the patients' input.

10/2/07 5 4 5 5 Dr. Farries is honest, and tells you the truth. He is clear on expectations, and I appreciate that in a surgeon. I also find as I see him that I am getting to know and appreciate his "softer side", which is actually very much there. So far, I couldn't be happier with his service  Respond

7/25/07 3 2 5 5 Dr.Farries did an excellent job dealing with my ruptured appendix. He did, however, seem extremely busy and Red Deer could probably use more specialist doctors to lighten his work load.  Respond

3/26/07 3 5 5 I have had a very positive experience with Dr Farries. My surgery was MAJOR (esophagectomy) but i had complete confidence in him, in fact i chose him over the head of thoracic surgery at a Calgary hospital. He answered my many questions openly & honestly without ever talking down to me or making my fears seem foolish. He has been kind & supportive throughout the entire ordeal & i feel he has given me the best care possible.  Respond

3/12/07 1 4 4 Dr. Farries, Is helpful and knowledgable however he has no idea of time management, is always an hour or more late for any appointment I've had with him over the last year and half. He does appear to be rather scattered in his thoughts when advise of recovery times etc. Before operation he advised of a 2 or 3 week recovery time and after the actual recovery time was 6 - 8 weeks. As well advised of 4 -6 weeks for surgery which turned out to be 6 months. Best advise I could give is to get correct information with his staff as they are more knowledgable on dates and times.  Respond

2/16/07 1 1 5 Far too busy to pay proper attention in both office and during surgery. Sloppy and careless as a result I suspect of over worked and too many medical specialties too look after. I am a prime example of what can go wrong when trusted individuals are sloppy and careless.  Respond
