Dr. Brandeis' license should be revoked! I went to her 2 yrs. ago. My previous doctor in the same practice retired and she referred me to Dr.Brandeis for a leap procedure that I needed. I went in for the leap, which was very painful and Dr. Brandeis was so cold, heartless, and unsympathetic that I was actually in tears DURING the procedure! I would have left, but she had already begun. 3 days later I ended up in the emergency room from excessive bleeding resulting from the procedure. The following week I requested my medical records to be sent to another doctor for a follow up examination. They would not send it unless I came IN PERSON to sign for it. I went back to that horrible office, only to get literally YELLED at by Dr. Brandeis for questioning her medical ability and telling me I was wrong for going to another doctor! I was absolutely horrified. Dr. Brandeis caused this unbelievably traumatic experience for me and I strongly believeshe should be banned from practicing medicine!!!

The first time I ever went I guess I had the first appointment after lunch. The doctor took a long lunch and got back to the office 30 minutes AFTER my appt was scheduled to start! I then waited approximately another 30 mins before being seen. I just went again suspecting I had a UTI - I had gone to an EC doctor first because I had been out of town when symptoms started but it came back so I went to Dr. Brandeis. She yelled at me for taking medication without coming in for a urine culture. I explained that another doctor had prescribed the medication and she responded "well it didn't work now did it?" The urine culture came back negative and I'm still suffering and have called twice so far today to ask what the next step is (i.e. can I get a referrel to a DIFFERENT doctor?!!!).

Would never go back to see Dr Brandies. I was having excessive abnormal vaginal bleeding and I had her paged on a Sunday. She called me back 3 hours later and told me to come in the next day for a sonogram. I never made it in, I ended up in the emergency room due to loss of blood and had to have a blood transfusion. On previous visits to see her, I waited on average 2-3 hours. When I said something to her about the long wait she didn't apologize. On another visit, she gave me a biopsy that was extremely painful and stopped only after I cried and insisted she stop. There may be some good ratings in this list, but those are definitely the exception and not the standard with her.

this woman is a disgrace to the medical profession, I have generations of doctors in my family and am familoar with isses related to the meical field and have NEVER emcouintered a more ill-tempered, money hungry, impatient, rude and inept practitioner in my life. Her diagnosis and subsequent rush to surgery (which i did not follow) was innacurate and potentially extremely harmful considering it would have been invasive and unncecssary not tomention the potential for complications. I cannot belive, like so many others, that this woman is still in "business" at all, and that is what her pratice is to her, a business. STAY AWAY!

This is the worst doctor I've ever been to. I waited over an hour in the examination room; half an hour into my waiting there she peeked in and told me she'd be in soon. Then 35 minutes later she came in. The room was hot and not that clean. I was upset and asked her what happened and she did not apologize and continued to be very rude to me. She did not answer my questions and then prescribed a medication that I had told her I was allergic two days previously (this time I was back for an infection she did not treat correctly the first time). I also asked her if I had a type of infection I'd had before and she had never even heard of it. DO NOT go to her under any circumstances! All the women in the waiting room also told me that she kept them waiting over an hour. She should not be in practice.

My sister went to this practice after her insurance was changed. This practice was the only place that would take the insurance. No wonder ---suddenly my sister who had always been very healthy suddenly had a possible "tumor", fibroids and a "spongy" uterus. My sister had to wait 2 hours to be seen. In the meantime, the staff was very rude and Dr. Brandeis came to the reception desk to discuss another patient's history loudly, and in front of other patients. This is against HIPPA. Dr. Brandeis recommended immediate surgery - when my sister asked to see the written diagnosis, or sonogram images - Dr. Brandeis asked "Why? Are you a doctor?" and was very rude to my sister. She refused to give anything in writing about the diagnosis and was not familiar with my sister's history. She was extremely rude and dismissive. We think she recommended unnecessary surgery to bill the insurance company. My sister is now getting a second opinion - but

UPROFESSIONAL, UNETHICAL, and just plain MEAN! Avoid this doctor at all costs. She is always late and very rude. after an abnormal pap, i was told that i have pre-cancerous cells and would need a leep. upon further research (on my own) i found that this is often caused by HPV, and when I told her I wanted to be tested for it, she tried to talk me out of it saying "well its better if u dont know, because if you do have an std, you will need to tell your partner" i insisted that i did want to know, and she very reluctantly agreed. after i stopped seeing her (for many reasons), i asked for a copy of my records, and when i received them, i noticed that when i first got an abnormal pap, the test for hpv was done (this is standard) and she simply kept the results from me! i had tested positive for hpv three times before she "agreed" to do the test and told me the results. when i originally asked her, she had already known, and instead pretended i needed to have another test done to determine

I was referred to D. Brandeis through another doctor. I waited amost an hour and a half after my scheduked appointment o see her. From what I am told fro other patients in the waiting room this is common practice. I guess so is bad mouthing other patients at the reception desk because I overheard this as well. During our consultation she was condescending and actually took a phone call during our consultation. I would not recommend this doctor to my worst enemy! She was highly unprofessional and arrogant.

Dr. Brandeis is an excellent doctor. I have been in her care for over six years and she has always been extremely available, knowledgeable, thorough, professional and kind. If there ever was a quick and pain free annual exam it is with her. She was my surgeon when I needed an emergency procedure. There were no complications, I had a quick and full recovery, and timely follow up was made by Dr. Brandeis. She has always taken extended time to discuss my health and related concerns and so I understand that if there is a wait to see her, she is probably spending time with another woman who really needs more time and support; knowing this I come prepared with reading, ipod, Blackberry and a positive attitude because I know I seeing a competent doctor with a rye sense of humor who truly cares about me and my well being.

I have been with Dr. Brandeis for approximately 25 years.I no longer live in NYC but about 45 minutes north and still make the trip to see her.Yes, I too have waited over an hour to see her for a yearly pap test, however, whenever I was pregnant, I delivered 3 children with her, my wait was much quicker. Each delivery was smooth and she was there for me each time.I was not pushed off on a covering intern.I had one laproscopy for endometreosis, not the quickest recovery, but when I was not feeling well, she followed up with subsequent testing to be sure there were no serious complications.Fortunately I have also had a great repore with her and found her knowledgable, professional, concerned with woman's health issues and even personal ones at times. My daughter, now 19 (doc delvered her) is now a patient of hers as well and the doc has done every test a young woman (in this day and age) should have done to stay healthy. We have had laughs and tears over the years. She doesn't waste time.Great

Dr. Brandeis has been my doctor since 2000. She and I has a love/hate relationship. She nags me about my weight and I hate it but I know she's only after my own health. She's an excellent doctor with wry sense of humor. Bring a book when you have an appointment. She's very busy, despite the very bad comments she gets in this website.

Wow. She was awful. I waited an hour and a half. One of nastiest people I've ever encountered. She made me feel bad for asking questions, and accused me of lying to her, because I forgot to mention an allergy on a form. Not only that she messed up my exam and had to do it again. The second time she put the speculum in, it burned like it had just been in disinfectant. I will never go back.

everything i am reading in the previously written comments is all true, with the exception of her being a good doctor. i'm sure she is very skilled and knowledgeable, but i wouldn't know that from my experience. she did not meet with me prior to the exam as a first time patient. she kept me waiting for OVER AN HOUR practically naked in a paper robe in the freezing and outdated exam room. i had to call the receptionist from my cell phone to find out what was going on with her and why i had to wait so long. they said she was seeing other patients (or eating her lunch). she didn't even have the courtesy to apologize when she finally decided to show up. getting her to call me with results? i'm still waiting. they've had my report since feb 29. it's now mar 7. and my test was not successful. i still don't know what is wrong with me because she refuses to call. she is nasty and unfriendly and clearly doesn't care about her patients.

Dr. Brandeis is fantastic, knowledgeable, and the best doctor you can wish for. She was only late once, because she had to be at the hospital. I went to Dr. Brandeis a few years ago. I was looking up her information for a friend and found some negative comments on this website. I just wanted to say that she gave me excellent care and performed a pretty serious, successful surgery. True, she might have been a little cold, but I wasn't looking for a new best friend, just an excellent doctor.

Dr. Brandeis was on time but cold, cold, cold. Even though I was a new patient she did not meet with me before the examination. She walked into the examination room where I was wearing a paper gown (virtually naked). I stayed for the examination because I was already undressed and needed a pap smear. She read the form I filled in and asked a few questions without ever looking at me. She criticized my going off ERT despite the problems it caused, looked at my aged body with disgust and told me to exercise. I've never met a colder and ruder doctor in my life. I would not have dared to ask a question. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a doctor's office.

Hands down the worst doctor I have ever visited. The first thing she said, after asking my age(36)and whether or not I have kids (no) is "You know you are not getting any younger." She had JUST met me and had no idea about my history. Her bedside manner is atrocious. She is like that tacky aunt that thinks she is doing you a favor by being blunt. Except she is just mean. I called her office a few months later for a birth control pill script. During our appointment I told her I went recently went off a certain brand which I didn't react well. I called on a Wednesday and was told the doctor would call me back. I had to follow up on both Thursday and Friday because I had yet to hear back. I finally spoke with a rude receptionist who told me the script was mailed to me, without a chance to discuss brands with the doctor. Turns out she prescribed a chewable version of the brand I complained about. They said they would call in the brand I wanted. They didn't. Beyond unprofessional.

This doctor sent the wrong information to the lab and the lab billed my wife for a service that she never had performed. The first I heard of it was when I got a notice from a collection agency in August. After making several phone calls and faxing information to her office I was told that this was taken care of. Imagine my surprise and fury when I recieved another Delicency notice from the collection agency. I went to Dr Brandeis' office to get it resolved and was told that there was nothing they could do because the billing person was out this week. I told them that this was not acceptable and I needed to talk to a supervisor, who was in this case, Dr. Brandies. She was extremely rude, took my paperwork, refused to give it back to me, and instead of helping me resolve the problem she CALLED THE COPS! I would have to say that she is the most unprofessional professional I have ever dealt with in my life. No towels in the bathroom is one of many reasons my wife only saw her once.

My three experiences with Dr. Brandeis have been my most unpleasant ever with a doctor. Needless to say that her alarmist point of view and general demeanor caused me to leave her office in tears after all of my 3 visits. Be forewarned – this Doctor is evil, malicious and nasty, makes medical decisions in haste, and cares nothing for the patient’s feelings or life situation. If anyone reading this is told that they need a hysterectomy, I strongly advise you to get many second opinions and to read the information on the HERS Foundation website www.hersfoundation.com. They can review your situation with you and refer you to a gynecologist whom they trust not to unnecessarily mangle your organs. I told them the name of the surgeon that Dr. Brandeis recommended, and they told me that he will scare the s--t out of me and that he sees cancer in everything, as well as advocates for the removal of the uterus and ovaries in women over 40. Run fast in the other direction. Lesson learaned.

It's interesting to read through the very polarized set of comments. The commentaries with low rating describe exactly the Dr. Brandeis I know. She and her entire staff are rude. She refuses to talk to you on the phone and waiting for over an hour is the standard course. She and her staff impose her rules on you. She makes it clear that to "take care of you", it's got to be "on her terms". Someone said that Dr. Brandeis apologized for being late, I simply cannot see it being possible. She's probably knowledgeable enough after this many years of practice but she still doesn't understand the entire human part of medicine.

She is the worst doctor I have ever encountered. She pressed me very hard to use an estrogen patch for hot flashes and dryness. Very dismissive about any questions I had about the product–she told me to go on the website. Her prescription for estrogen crème immediately caused bloating-a possible side effect listed on the package. She refused to speak to me when I called, her receptionist said it could not be due to the crème. A few days later I was spotting (this was 3 years since I had last had my period.) I called to tell her of this latest symptom. Days later she left a message for me to get a sonogram for the bleeding (which had already stopped). A very obvious way to get more money out of the insurance company. She recommended I have a colonoscopy-very conveniently giving me her husband’s card for same. At this point, I am getting another doctor (to redo the pap test as I don’t trust anything she does). If it were possible to give her lower than a 1-1-1 rating, I would.

One of the crudest and most unprofessional doctors i have ever been to. Her staff is equally rude, her examination rooms are filthy and that she is allowed to even practice much less maintain an association with NYU is amazing. She is a malpractice suite waiting to happen. She's only in it for the insurance money. Does zero follow through and blames the patient for everything. You are even responsible for remembering to book your next appointment even with a serious condition !! She is unethical to the max!

She is vastly knowledgable, professional, hard-working, concerned and thorough. She had me return for a second breast examination when we had both recieved reports from MDR (which I liked)on E. 66 St. in Manhattan that stated my mammogram and sonogram were normal - just to be sure. I was only once kept waiting long and she apologized profusely. I think she is the best Gyn I have ever been seen by. In adddition, I am 50 years old and she has addressed to my satisfaction all the vagaries and complexities of my pre or perimenopausal issues.

This doctor is unprofessional. I had a procedure done which was so painful and I asked her to "stop" three times. She did not. Later I consulted with another MD that said that there would not have been any harmful consequences to me if she would have stopped. I fainted on the table and she let me go, no blood pressure reading, nothing. Then, she scolded me for saying that I needed some juice. She is rude and has extremely poor bedside manners. She should not be practicing medicine.

I've been going to this office for over 10 yrs. I liked the other ob/gyns better. they since left. Dr. Brandies delivered my second child. She showed up in the hospital looking upset.I felt like she tried to get on with the delivery to go back to her party or whatever it was that i took her away from. I need to find another Ob/gyn as I dont feel comfortable with her. Her staff especially one particular woman gave me such a hard time i left in tears while being pregnant ( i never cry) my husband gave her a piece of his mind. She tried to push birth control pills on me even after telling her they did not agree with me in the past.Shes rude, pushy and bossy.Im trying to locate the other dr's who worked for her int the past and see them instead. She dismissed all of my complaints and made me feel insignificant. The staff sent me for a sonogram that i had to ingest large amounts of fluid and glucose and waited for an hr only to be told they dont take my insurance there.

I waited, yes, but most of the time I was filling in forms, pretty much the same interval of time that has passed with many other Ob/Gyns in my life. The staff was extremely gracious about my being late due to an accident on the FDR and a cab driver who insisted on taking the Bowery from downtown. They were all really nice I thought. I didn't wait for long once I was in the examination room, just long enough to read the article in Allure that I wanted to read. The doctor spent a good long time with me (new patient) and was very thorough. She took me seriously; I liked her. It's interesting all the different reactions I've read at this site. It reminds me of the S & C episode where Carrie starts the show talking about NYC being a perfect city to live in when you're engaged or after a break up. Anyway, my experience was extremely positive: I felt I was dealing with a smart, pragmatic woman who respected my intelligence in spite of the awful paper gown and my probably annoying chattiness.

I have been to this doctor three times now. For the first two appointments I waited two hours, and three hours for the third appointment. I agree that her staff is rude and uncaring; Dr. Brandeis herself is brusque and ordered tests on me without *precisely* explaining why I needed them. She doesn't seem particularly caring and found one procedure I had done at her office especially painful. I definitely do not recommend her, especially if you have other commitments in your life and cannot spend hours reading a novel in the waiting room and need a caring gynecologist asap.

very brisk. horrible bedside manner. dismissive. i have a very low tolerance for pain (which i informed her of)and when during my in-office surgery, i told her that i was in excruciating pain, she told me that was impossible, because most women don't feel anything. when i cried out, she scolded me and told me to "hush up". My post-op fell on a jewish holiday, i was the last patient, and she was running late as usual, so she got VERY NASTY with me and proceeded to complain about having to still be in the office, and how she wants to leave, but has to see me (all this with her fingers inside of me). i left in tears and never went back. i found a new doctor and am very happy now.

I am a fairly recent patient of Dr. Brandeis (2+ years). I have been very pleased; although the wait time is long, as someone referenced, in my experience it is because she does take as much time as you need to discuss things with you, even for something as run-of-the-mill as menopause.

I have been a pt. of Dr. Brandeis for over 22 years, she was recommended to me by my Internist who also used her.I have found her to be wonderful. I as RN I was very picky in choosing who would deliver children; it was a wonderful experience with no complications, and now that I am entering into my premenopausal years I look forward to sharing that with her too. No one is more understanding about menopause than she. If you are looking for someone to hold your hand and mother you then she's not for you. She has a dry sense of humor and is very witty. She has always been a pleasure to speak to and I look forward to my GYN visits each year. I do wait at times close to an hour but I feel quality is worth waiting for,(no more than going to a good restaurant and waiting at the bar for more than 1 hour and having reservations.) I have recommended her to friends and family and will continue to do so.

Horrible Experience. I had an appointment at 9:15 am (a second patient of the day) and arrived 10 minutes early but I had to wait in a disposable gown in a cold room for until 10:45 until she saw me. This would be terrible for someone who was really ill or pregnant. When I called back for test results, the extremely rude staff demanded that I tell HER what the issue and symptoms are! I was outraged and said I will not tell her (she's a receptionist, not medically trained, obviously) and she told me that unless I told HER what my symptoms are, the doctor will not get back to me about my test results. I told her that everything should be in my chart and the receptionist says "the doctor is too busy to look through every test and every chart". Why bother ordering tests when she doesn't have time to look at the results? I'm filing a complaint against her to the Department of Health and will never see her again. Of course, I won't be recommending her to my friends or enemies.

Have seen her 4-5 times and she's never been friendly or helpful, is always late, seems annoyed at questions, didn't tell me what's in my chart. Am looking for a new GYN. The staff is bad as well, often ignores me, curses, doesn't call to remind about appts, told me I was done and to go home when I was supposed to schedule an urgent follow-up. A nurse also took blood badly and I still have pain in my arm months later. The final kicker is the nasty signs about paper towels in the bathroom; they say, don't even ask about getting paper towels, past patients have been too careless with them, so use toilet paper for drying your hands. No air dryer, no other option. And no "thank you for your understanding."

She is a good person, but is not a good doctor. She operated me a year ago and I found later that the surgery was unnecessary, according to a speicalist. Also the specialist noted that she lacks knowledge on endometriosis that it could harm a patient. After my second surgery (by a specialist), I suggested that patients could be referred to a specialist if it was out of her scope/practice. She got offended and did not seem to value what would be best for a given patient.

Prior to seeing Dr. Brandeis I'd been seen by 2 doctors who could not determine my condition, and showed no interest in it. Dr. Brandeis immediately described her course of action to determine the cause of my ailment. She genuinely cares for women's well-being. Each time I visit she takes the time to answer ALL my questions, and my constant phone calls get a response either from her or her patient, professional staff. She keeps herself up-to-date on medical issues, provides you with a world of information but ultimately lets you make your own decisions. The informative, caring attention she provides is well worth the 2-hour wait.

I didn't like her at all, won't go back. She didn't like being questioned, and I couldn't wait to get out of her office.

Terrible experience. Had a simple question about the patient history form they make you fill out before you can be seen. Extremely rude office staff could not answer and they said I would not be seen until the form was completed. Since I couldn't complete a form I had a question about and wouldn't be seen until I completed it, I left. Total waste of over an hour of my time plus time lost having to wait for an open appointment with a different doctor elsewhere. Rude and unprofessional staff.

Did not like her bedside manner as it was very abrupt. She kept insisting that I should get fake breasts even after I told her I didn't want them.

Dr. Brandeis' popularity means you do sometimes wait quite a while. And though she may have a crisp-professional rather than warm-fuzzy mommy manner, Dr. Brandeis has always been extremely thorough and careful about my health and well-being. In addition to annual checkups, she's ordered regular mammographies and monitoring of my fibroids. She is a brilliant doctor and yes, she cares -- one of her specialties is ob/gyn/sex issues for handicapped women. Do you have an intimate women's question? Dr. Brandeis is open, modern, and totally non-judgmental. Ask her ANYTHING and you'll get a helpful modern response. (With a welcome sense of humor.) Plus, I like that she's at NYU -- it's an excellent hospital.

Found Dr. Brandeis to be very knowledgeable and personable. Took the time to review the history I had written and went into depth discussing it and the best course of treatment. She was highly recommended by another patient of hers and I was very thankful to get an appt. I was taken within 30 minutes of my scheduled appointment. The Dr. took the time to do bloodwork as well, although, she knew I had recently had a physical. I would definitly recommend Dr. Brandeis.

I found her to be rude and judgemental. SHe insisted that I should go for further screening to rule out possible DOwn Syndrome during my pregnancy, and insisted that I was wrong when I told her it really wouldn't affect our choice to continue the pregnancy.

Long waiting time. She answered personal calls while w/me. She scheduled a surgery but because her secretary booked the wrong operating room, it was cancelled 4 days before. She never called to speak w/ me about it but went on vacation. I went elsewhere and was extremely happy. I would never recommend her.

My mom went to her and was told she looked ghastly (or something just as bad). She might be knowledgeable, but I agree with the other poster, she's not very personable and doesn't know how to treat her patients from what I've heard.

Bitter and surly when I commented that I had waited TWO HOURS. Actually snapped at me when I asked about the frequency of my visits in the future (due to a medical condition). I left in tears.
