16/07/14 2 2 1 3 Well, I too had a similar experience as those posted. Didn't talk to Dr so don't know him this is based on the assessment by physio. She jumped to conclusion when told her my initial surgeon didn't say much about most recent visit she took that as he thought was not surgical didn't seem to matter that he never said that and that he would wait to see the most recent mri that he ordered which looks worse than the one before first surgery. While he was leaving for a year the replacement would have a look but while waiting my gp suggested this guy. According to physio lady all I need is physio. I have spent over 35k on various forms of physio over the last decade some out of pocket up until the most recent issue I was doing well then surgery then I was great for six weeks and the. Downhill again. I have spasmsi fall sometimes when I can't feel my foot or the signal to move just gets losti cant sleep at night due to paintake a lot of drugs but nothing really seems to work. So well done dr  Respond

12/06/14 3 3 1 2 I've been in constant pain for 8 yrs. All 5 lumbar discs damaged with s1 pinched leaving me with no feeling on outside of left leg and bad random sciatica pain. Finally got in to see Dr Dunlop and all he did was rub the insides of my legs after I told him the outside had no feeling (numbness and tingling) and the whole time I was in his room, he stared at himself inthe mirror like he was getting rready for a prom! If you have to wait longer than 5 months to see him, choose a different surgeon!  Respond

23/01/13 5 5 5 5 I researched surgeons in Hamilton for the type of surgery I required before picking this surgeon. With a referral my appointment was only a 3 week wait. At my appointment with a copy of my MRI and an assessment I was deemed a candidate for surgery. Surgery times was booked for 2 weeks. Being a Health Care Professional myself I tried every non-invasive option possible to correct my problem with no avail. I will be getting l5 s1 Decompression.Staf and doctor were very courteous professional and accomadting!!!!!!

11/10/11 2 1 1 1 Just came home from referral to this surgeon. What a waste of time! After 2 ER visit's and 11 days of pain and inability to wt bear on left leg, you think he might want to help with the problem. I had a fall and have had pain ever since. He didn't even ask what or if I was on meds for pain. He just proceeded to touch the area I complained of pain and said I should be able to weight bear with zimmer splint after he looked at the xrays I told him were available to him. Then proceeds to order MRI and told me I could wait 2 months for that. The problem is now, not 2 months from now. No bedside manner, told him I was a Registered Nurse and not the average layman, he didn't care and didn't care about my acute injury. I'd be damned if he is going to operate on me and would not recommend his services or lack of to anyone.  See Responses

27/03/11 1 1 1 1 I tried to get an emergency referrel to this doctor. Keeping in mind he is busy I understand. The response back his staff gave to my doctor is that i don't have the symtoms to require a emergency appt. They made this conclusion without seeing me as well lol. Great staff and doctor. The fact I can't sleep without have spasms if i turn any direction. I can't cough or sneeze or i'm on my knees. I can't stand or sit for more than five minutes. The only position that is comfortable is laying down. If i do walk i need to hold on to stuff to keep me up. I can no longer function and i'm basically bed ridden having pple to care of me. But according to his office I don't have symptoms to justify getting seen quicky. U be the judge. With such disregard like this I don't even want to see him. I will find another one.  Respond

28/05/09 5 5 5 5 I was in so much pain, that I took the option of surgery. Dr. Dunlop did an excellent job. The one thing though, this is a repair. You cannot go out and do the things that you used to do. Treat your back with respect.  Respond

26/02/09 5 5 5 5 After being in excrutiating pain in my back and leg for over a year and a half & being sent to many different specialists, I finally ended up in Dr Dunlops office. He walked through the door and the first question out of his mouth was 'how can I help you?'. I burst out in tears and explained I had been suffering for so long and no one would help me. He patiently listened (even though I know he is extremely busy) and assured me from my MRI that he could most certainly help me. I felt such relief that finally I might get my life back. My surgery was booked, then I got to go to a special clinic that explained all about the surgery and what to expect. It was one of the most positive medical experiences I have ever had and yes, I got my life back, thanks to Dr Dunlop. Thank you!!  Respond

20/08/08 1 4 1 1 I was referred to Dr. Dunlop for a second opinion by my family physician. After waiting for six months to get in to see him he was rude and told me that he doesn't do second opinions and if I need a second opinion then I don't need the surgery. He didn't want to waste his time with me and told me to leave. He made me wait 6 months for nothing except to tell me off and collect his fee. To top it off he sent a letter to my original surgeon to tell him that I asked for a second opinion and told me that now, he might not want to do the surgery because of that. I guess in Canada we are not allowed second opinions according to this man.  Respond

20/01/08 4 4 5 5 Dr.Dunlop repaired a disc herniation (L4-L5)following a hockey injury. I'd been to see several local doctors and chiropractors who'd failed to diagnose the problem. Just as I was getting ready to give up and " live with the injury " as I'd been told by an area doctor, I went the the Canadian Back Institute in Niagara Falls and was referred to Dr.Dunlop. He sent me for more x-rays and was able to spot the problem. After asking me how I got hurt, it's like he knew exactly where to look. He performed the decompression surgery and I've been great every since. All visits were informative and pleasant. His staff, although very busy, was great. Takes a while to get to see him, but is worth the wait. Can't say enough about the Canadian Back Institute in the Falls either. Have been a member in the gym there ever since. Needless to say, I'm back playing hockey, working out and with proper maintenance have been pain free ever since. My injury happened in 1996 and my surgery was in 1998.Thanks.  Respond

11/06/07 4 5 5 He did my back surgery in 2004 - I wnet from almost unbearable pain to no medication within 2 days. He explained everything very well to me before and after surgery. I would recommend him highly and think that he is a very skilled surgeon. I cannot assess his bedside manner, I had back surgery at 1 PM and was home in bed by 11 PM the same day.  Respond

04/05/07 3 4 5 I was in a car accident in 1995. I went to see a VERY well known Dr. in Hamilton and he said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me and that it was in my head! My sister-in-law who is a physiothereapist was able to get me in to see Dr.Dunlop. he took one look at my x-rays and said that he could take AWAY the pain in my back from my herniated disk. he told me that i'll always have a back injury and its up to me to maintain the strength in my back by ALWAYS excercising. he was right. Two years later i'm playing hockey!!! I feel GREAT! Thanks Dr. Dunlop for giving me my life back.  Respond

25/04/07 3 1 1 The rudest Dr. I have ever met. He was held out to be the best. Instead, he misdiagnosed me after his lighning speed examination, barely would take time to explain things to me and he makes you feel like you should kiss his heals while he is running out of the examination room. Don't even think of asking for a second opinion. A friend of mine told me he was told by Dunlop that he required surgery. My friend asked if he could get a second opinion. He said that Dunlop handed him his file, told him to get out and never come back. What was that all about? I felt the same way leaving his office. Thank GOD I hooked into a first class Dr. who properly diagnosed me and did the right surgery. Don't go for the hype...get second opinons and shop around.  Respond

14/03/07 4 5 5 Everyone in the Golden Horseshoe area knows that if you have a herniated disc, you see Dr. Dunlop. When he performed my brothers operation ten years ago, his success rate was 98%. At that time, the best anyone else could offer was 65-70%.  Respond

15/02/07 4 5 5 Dr. Dunlop is great. I travelled from St. Catharines to see him for two separate knee injuries over the years. He assessed and diagnosed my problems within minutes, both times. The first time, local doctors had said "you're going to have to live with it". After both surgeries, the knees have been great. (17 years later and 2 years later) I have heard that he is really good with backs too.  Respond
