:) Click to report rating *  5/15/09 5 3 5 Maybe the staff has changed since the last few reviews, but I find them to be extremely nice. I was a little off-putted to see a male working behind the reception desk, though. They are often backed up -- but, honestly, isn't that a sign of a good practice? You wouldn't want to go into a doctor's office to find no one waiting to see the doctor, would you?! Dr. Picco herself is a WONDERFUL doctor! I spent years trying to find a good doctor, without success, until I found Dr. Picco. She is professional, while being friendly and chatty to put you ease. She even apologizes if you are in any pain whatsoever. True, she is quick and to-the-point, but I never feel like she wouldn't answer my questions. I dread this annual exam -- but when I go in, I leave wondering why I did! I'm currently single with no children, but when the time comes when I'm ready for kids, I plan to use Dr. Picco. She will be one of those doctors I will be heartbroken if she leaves DC or stops practicing!

:) Click to report rating *  3/24/09 1 4 3 Dr. Picco herself is friendly, knowledgeable and nice. Unfortunately, I will never go to her again. I have been to four appointments there, and her staff gets progressively worse. On my last visit (ever), they failed to call with lab results, failed to return THREE of MY calls asking about lab results, filed my insurance paperwork wrong... REPEATEDLY... even after the insurance company twice wrote back and TOLD THEM HOW TO FILE IT. Ultimately, they screwed around with my insurance so long and so badly insurance wouldn't reimburse me and I ended up losing my entire $210. Worse than the money was their failure to return calls giving me my lab results (this was a follow-up appointment to find out of prior abnormal results were an anomally or whether I had cancer... it was pretty important to me as a patient, but it was obviously NOT important to Dr. Picco's staff.)

:( Click to report rating *  2/19/09 1 1 1 If I could rate with a -10, I would. The front desk staff and nurses were rude, incompetent, arrogant, unfriendly, and unprofessional. Their brains are worse than amoeba!!!!!!!!!!!! No offense to amoeba!!! I'm never going back to this office again and definitely won't recommend to any other women out there. I waited over an hour and after several inquiries, no one even bothered to help address my questions. The doctor only gets to see you for 5-10 minutes max and rushes through the appointment. I feel that she doesn't care about her patients but just sees us as checks $$$$ coming in. If you still insist to go and see this doctor, be prepared. Go with your worst attitude and aggressiveness to get through the front desk and amoeba to meet the doctor.

:) Click to report rating *  2/1/09 3 3 4 I recently switched to Dr. Lori Picco at Capital Women's Care and highly recommend her and the K Street office. Yes, it's busy, but so far, it's seems efficient, they can do bloodwork right there and you don't need an appt to get checked out if you suspect UTI. Dr. Picco moves fast but I never get the sense that she's rushing me out the door. She listens to you and asks questions and she called me back with my test results much sooner than I expected. I didn't give higher ratings simply because I've only been a patient for a year and don't have as much experience with her or the office.

:( Click to report rating    7/24/08 1 1 2 When I first moved to DC, every woman at my new office went to Dr. Picco so I thought she'd be amazing. However, I was very disappointed. She immediately stands up after performing the exam which made me feel rushed. She did not take the time to answer any follow up questions. After diagnosing me with HPV she was not caring at all and left the exam room although I was very upset. The office staff also did not help the experience. I have often had to wait up to an hour to see her, and whenever I inquired how much longer I had to wait they were very rude to me. However, I have since switched to Dr. Saffran in the same office and he is WONDERFUL! Could not say enough about him. He truly took the time to talk to me after the exam, made me feel absolutely comfortable and even followed up with an email afterwards to see if I had any questions and to discuss my lab results.

:( Click to report rating    3/28/08 1 1 1 My first experience with Dr. Picco was on the phone during labor. She was on call for the midwives this practice used to work with. I found her incredibly rude and patronizing. I had been in the beginning stages of labor for 24 hours with my first. She proceeded to tell me exactly how many minutes and seconds I had been talking to her without having a contraction repeated and doubted that I was even contracting. Told me "I shouldn't bother to come in because the nursing staff will hold it against me". When I did come in later, I did not see her once during the entire stay in the hospital even though she delivered my daughter by cesarean. Never said hello. In contrast the other doctor who was on call stayed past her time to be in the OR and the midwives called me after the operation, came to see me in the baby wing and called my house on the weekend to check on me. This practice has been losing money. Docs and midwives have been fired and prevented from practicing with a month's notice.

:| Click to report rating    3/26/08 1 1 2 I had a horrible experience with Dr. Picco. When I was going to her for normal yearly exams, she was fine: in and out, no problems. However, when I did experience a health problem and needed more than my yearly pap smear, she totally blew me off, didn't take the time to answer any of my questions, and didn't explain what she was doing to me. She was literally edging toward the door the entire five minutes she spent with me, after I waited two weeks for the appointment and 45-minutes in the waiting room. I had to ask the receptionist what my prescriptions were for, and I never heard back regarding my lab tests until I went back to another doctor within the same practice. See Dr. Safran instead. There is less of a wait, but he is wonderful and actually takes the time to listen to you!

:) Click to report rating    2/20/08 1 5 5 Hello, Dr. L Picco has been my Dr for about 5 years now. She even performed surgery on me 2 years ago. I love her she is friendly and always answers any questions I might have. Now when it comes to the support staff there that's different. I had some blood work done and 2 of the employees had an argument in front of me...how unprofessional. The ladies at the front desk never looked me in my face they asked me questions and never looked up or acknowleged that I was there. I find that to be very strange when you are dealing people in general. I think if you don't like to deal with peopel in genral the OBYG office isn't the place for you to be working.

:( Click to report rating    1/29/08 1 1 1 Hello- I was new to the area and found Dr. Picco office via Health Isurance website. I've been to office a total of 7 times and all my appointments have been 1 hour plus behind. very annoying. When I compared this office with my last practice. I feel like they are not established and have no idea what a Good Women's practice means. Dr. Picco always says she will call me with test results but never did, I've alway called. Having a billing issue and I called 3x and left messages. no call back. Once i even asked the staff 'is it always busy like this? she said. I then asked so the patients don't mind the long wait, lack of communciation, ie. She said NO. My husband and I are going to try to have another baby but before I get pregnant. I want another practice. I want people who care. A staff that is friendly and caring. A practice that will call you back promptly. When u have a urgent issue u can been seen right away................... Deseperate to Find Home :)

:( Click to report rating    1/28/08 1 1 1 I never actually made it in to see Dr. Picco; the office staff is incompetent, unfriendly and makes you want to go to a different doctor. I would not recommend this office to anyone!

:| Click to report rating    1/23/08 1 2 3 I have read other comments and can't help but agree that every visit I had with Dr Picco was rushed. She was more interested in what I am planning to do for the holidays than in my health issues. I cannot get the test results communicated to me for almost 2 months now. No phone calls help!

:( Click to report rating    1/4/08 1 1 1 I am at this moment looking for another doctor. After waiting an hour on average for each visit, Dr. Picco is extremely rushed, and does not appear to have reviewed your chart. After advising me of a different diagnosis than she previously told me, she insisted she advised me before - after chastizing me for not returning for follow up when I had three visits with her in between. I am now unsure if these results are even mine. Multiple entries as well as lab results were lost from my file. Front office staff is cold at best and rude and unhelpful at worst - even losing the materials I brought with me on my very first visit. I have just received a response to repeated requests for lab results - from Oct - yesterday. In fairness, Dr. P tried twice in Oct to reach me (using only one of the three numbers I gave her) and then gave up (I made last unreturned call in Oct) and sent a letter in Dec asking me to call. I have now scheduled my final appt with her before changing docs.

:) Click to report rating    1/3/08 1 1 3 I have been to the office several times and have had mixed experiences. Staff customer service is lousy! During my last visit, Dr. Picco barely sat down to discuss a myriad of issues I came there with. She did call me back with test results which I was surprised by. I saw Dr. Blank too and liked his bedside manner much better. As for doing lab tests, the bathroom was stacked with other people's samples when I went inside. The appointments take less than 10 minutes but the wait is usually an hour to see her. I wouldn't recommend her and have found a new doctor.

:| Click to report rating    12/29/07 1 1 2 Dr. Picco has a tendency to fall off the map. A few days before an appointment, a member of her staff invariablely calls to cancel. When I call, even with urgent problems, they usually fail to answer and do not even call me back. I was told that I might have a health problem and to come back in 3 months, but I was unable to get an appointment or even get a hold of the receptionist during that time. When I've had more urgent problems, I've been unable to get a hold of a doctor, and it's always a 3 month wait to see someone. I have no problem with the doctor herself, but the lack of follow-up makes the quality of care horrible.

:) Click to report rating    12/5/07 5 4 5 I have been seeing Dr. Picco for over 2 years and I am impressed with the quality of her care and the overall office. When I have a problem that requires urgent attention, I am able to speak to a nurse and come in the same day. I saw Dr. Safran (another doctor in the practice) once when I came in for an emergency and I was similarly impressed with the quality of his care. There have been some bumps in the road - no office is perfect - but I am overall very happy and would not hesitate to recommend them to a friend.

:| Click to report rating    11/6/07 1 2 2 I've been trying to reach this office for the last 1.5 months because I need an appt, and no one will pick up the phone! I've faxed- no response. I called the prescription refill line- disconnected! The last time I went in, the staff was completely rude, and I had been scheduled for an 8:30 apt. Interesting, since Picco doesn't take apts before 9?? I had to wait over an hour to be seen. The visit was so rushed (under 10 minutes) that I felt like Dr Picco just wanted me gone so she could move to the "next one". Since my prescription has run out, and I can't get an appt in short notice to see another gyno, I've got to go beg county health for a prescription extention. NEVER going back, and will advice all my friends to stay FAR FAR away.

:) Click to report rating    10/12/07 5 5 5 I've been going to Dr. Picco for several years and I think she is great. I have read some of the other comments and I really don't believe there is so much criticism. I have found her to be very caring and supportive, even when I had a problem. I have recommended her to several of my friends and they have been extremely happy as well. One of them had a baby, a little high risk, but Dr. Picco spent extra time with her and everything went great. I really would highly recommend her.

:) Click to report rating    10/10/07 5 1 5 I love Dr. Picco! She seems rushed but when I start to ask questions she slows right down and makes sure I am satisfied with all the answers. This is the kind of exam you WANT to be quick, anyway! Granted I have never had children so I can't say how she is for that, but for general exams and even issues that might pop up, she is thorough. I do have to wait a long time to be seen, but I am comfortable enough at this practice that I don't mind the wait. Dr. Picco makes this annual, uncomfortable experience bearable. Like with any doctor, though, you must do your homework and ask informed questions!!!

:( Click to report rating    10/8/07 1 1 1 SHE WAS HORRIBLE. sHE LEFT ME FEELING MORELOST THAN BEFORE. i AM LEAVING THE PRACTICE BECAUSE OF THE EXPERIENCE AND WOULD NOT SUGGEST ANYONE CURRENTLY IN THAT PRACTICE. THE ONLY TWO DOCTORS THAT CARED LEFT---WONDER WHY?

:( Click to report rating    8/14/07 1 3 1 This is the worst doctor I have ever been to. Each appointment was like a race to the finish, she refused to call any phone number other than my work number to give me test results (therefore not allowing me to ask questions because I was in the presence of co-workers), and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable on a number of occassions. Additionally, the office is not a hygenic environment and the women working at the front desk are impolite. Just hearing this doctor's name gives me chills.

:( Click to report rating    6/5/07 3 1 Went through a miscarriage - she was horrible and unfeeling. It is a shame a doctor in this business can be so cold when managing a patient going through a tragedy. She spent less than 10 seconds speaking to my husband after my D&C and never mentioned I should have a follow up visitation. I felt more like a piece of meat than a person. After going to a specialist later, it was determined that I had an incomplete D&C. Also, the office personnel were less than friendly and acted like they had never dealt with anyone going through a loss before. I would highly recommend choosing another doctor with compassion.

:| Click to report rating    4/23/07 3 3 I think that Dr. Picco is competent, but I never felt that she cared about me or my pregnancy. I wasn't sure she even remembered me from one appt. to the next, and she is very rushed.

:) Click to report rating    2/23/07 3 5 Dr. Picco is wonderful. The office staff is always nice to me, though they do appear to dislike their jobs. I have waited from 5-50 minutes beyond my appointment time to see her, but she is definitely worth the wait. I have PCOS and PMDD, and she's always willing to chat with me or call me if necessary to explain or discuss things until I "get" it. I highly recommend Dr. Picco.

:) Click to report rating    2/5/07 2 5 Dr. Picco is a great doctor and very efficient and friendly. My only complaint is the office staff. They are horrible at returning calls and I always have to wait at least 30 minutes after my appointment time to get in.

:) Click to report rating *  12/9/06 2 5 Dr. Picco and I have seen a LOT of each other over the past two years due to my persistent cervical dysplasia and I absolutely adore her (which is a lot to say about someone who has burned your cervix with a hot wire!). Her exams are quick and painless, she's smart and has a great personality, and I have never felt that she doesn't take time answer my questions. I have referred her to several friends, all of whom are equally pleased. Did I mention her exams are quick and painless?

:| Click to report rating    11/13/06 3 3 I have mixed feelings about this office, and for this reason am on the hunt for another practice. It's difficult to get through to make appointments, etc, though this appears to have improved substantially in the past year. Back in Nov 2005 getting through by phone was nearly impossible. Dr. Picco is rushed (for those who like bedside efficiency, this may not be an issue for you). Also, I found myself irritated by the hurried and rather superficial "fertility advice" I received (difficulty conceiving), though I did get a referral to a specialist. Overall, not exactly what I'm looking for in a medical experience. I think much of this is the fault of corrupt insurance companies, delaying payments and squeezing costs, which leads doctors to cram in as many patients as possible during the day. I'd pay the visit fee myself, if I were allowed to do so.

:) Click to report rating    11/7/06 3 5 Dr Lori Picco gave us wonderful and personal care throughout both pregnancies. My daughter was born last June and son was born 6 days ago. She is helpful, reassuring, caring, enthusiastic, and all around a wonderful doctor and person. I continue to recommend her to anyone who needs an OB.

:( Click to report rating    9/21/06 1 1 DO NOT GO TO DR. PICCO!!! The office is horribly bad at returning phone calls. I had to call 4 times to get lab results. Two people called me and said they'd look for results and call back and never did. I've never been so upset in my life. It's really sad because Dr. Picco used to be great, but the office has gotten too big and there is absolutely no communication and horrible scheduling. The last 3 times I went to the office I waited at least an hour each time.

:) Click to report rating    8/9/06 4 5 While Dr. Picco talks quickly, I never felt rushed. In fact, I always ran out of questions before she stopped asking, "Anything else?" She does very gentle exams, and we totally reassuring about both of my totally textbook pregnancies. She was very supportive of my VBAC the second time around, and when I dealt with what I thought might be post-partum depression, recommended a terrific therapist. A wonderful doctor in my opinion.

:) Click to report rating    7/28/06 2 5 I am very comfortable with Dr. Picco. Her exams are quick and unobtrusive and makes the dreaded yearly exam painless. But like the others I can say I DREAD making an appointment or calling with a question because the staff is awful and down right mean to you and on more than one occasion I have gotten hung up on.

:) Click to report rating    7/24/06 1 5 I have found Dr. Picco to be knowledgable and patient. She is very gentle when doing pelvic exams. Overall a good experience. The only downside is that I had to wait like an hour after my appointment time to be seen.
