Where would you begin with a know nothing like this? First of all, if you ever want to be called fat or have your grandmother called fat by all means go to this doc! He sits on his little stool, looks off into space, digs around in his cabinets and keeps sending you home with samples of a bunch of crap you dont need instaed of doing his damn job! I dont know maybe hes trying out a new tune in his head while youre talking. I am looking for a new doctor because to be honest, id like to live past 34!If he would just listen for a change and actually show a little interest in what hes doing and who hes doing it for hed be alot better doctor, maybe not so ignorant and crude. All it seems hes after is his pay for as many office calls as he can get in a day or a week, thats why he keeps sending you home with samples he probably knows wont work so youll have to come back again. I dont know about anyone else but im tired of making his house payments for him just trying to figure out whats wrong.

I have never had a problem with doc, he has always been good to me and my family even though he is not our family doc, if we call he tells us to come right in. He also was the attending doc in the OR when I had my son in 06 my son was not breathing and he was so good with him, it was like nothing else mattered. My son sees him now if he needs to and he is still very good with him as with the rest of my family.

Asks a question, does not listen to answer, talks over what you are trying to tell him. Lives in his own little world with him as doctor and patient. You may as well not even be in the room. Bedside manner non existant. Does not care about patients. Quack is too good a word. have not seen the likes of this for a long time. Stay away!

only go to this quack if you want to self diagnose & need his signature to get the meds. Stands in the door & asks what's wrong and then asks you what you think you should have for treatment of your self diagnosed condition. He has no bedside manner, has been rude & very abrubt. Have only ever encountered him in the outpatients dept. I really hope never to encounter him if I'm in serious condition.

Found him to be a thorough, competent professional as a GP. Appointments are usually same day and rapid referal to additional tests and/or specialists when required. In my situation this resulted in taking my complaint of indigestion and minor acid reflux to the point where cancer was confirmed in less than a month I have not experienced the lack of compassion some complain about but would gladly exchange niceness for competence

He is very caring, and thorough. If he doesnt know what is wrong, he will refer you to a specialist. He is very cautious and great with children. One of the best.

After years of being frustrated with this doctor, once he moved to the new URVH, I've had no complaints. He sees people in his office promptly, he had a great bedside manner with my young son, and he was very quick to order tests to diagnose potential problems. He took time to check things over thoroughly. Unlike some others, I don't find him to be a pill pusher. If it's not needed, he won't prescribe it.

I have a few points to make of my experiences with Dr. MacElwain. I am from the Carleton County area where there has been a new hospital opened not all that long ago. After over a year the service is excrutiatingly slow, but I was lucky enough to have a nurse refer me to Dr. MacElwain's office where he could service me within 15 minutes. This was much better than a three or four hour wait. Secondly, although I was confident in his abilites, I didn't find him to be very compassionate toward me. I'm the type of person that goes out of my way to make sure someone is comfortable with me and is left with a good impression. Dr. MacElwain doesn't feel exactly the same as myself because he was just nice enough, but didn't try to brighten my outlook. This was discouraging. I would still see him if needed because he seemed overall a knowledgeable man, but I must say that my one-on-one experience was not overly comfortable and patients could be made to feel much safer within this doctor's care.

As my family physican I find him very good for the fact that if you call him that morning you can get into him that day not 5 days later like most doctors and as some of the comments I've seen, I disagree that he pushes prescriptions. He as only given my children something if it is needed and also I've found that if he doesn't know what is wrong with you, he will refer you onto someone who can find out...all in all he has been my doctor for 36yrs, been with me through 2 child births and I think he does an all right job!!! I'm sorry but as long as he is your family doctor he great...outpatients point of view, sorry but I've never experienced the "rudeness" and "no time" issue with him but again he is my family doctor.

This "doctor" was impatient when I was delivering my baby since his shift was almost over. He was abrupt and rude, and when it was time for the placenta to come out he tried to pull it out. This can cause internal bleeding. Not high on my list of recommendations.

This man is number than a pounded thumb. I went to ER once with sore throat/cold. Before he came in the exam. room he said to me "Dont cough on me". Talk about ignorant. He has no compassion. He like many other Dr's love to push meds - because at the end of the year they get paid for the # of times they prescribed a drug. I think he got lucky and got his MD lic. out of cracker-jacks many years ago. Hopefully he will quit his day job..and perhaps continue his singing profession. Usless going to see this Dr. and when if you do, let's hope its not life threatening.

In 2002 my husband and I adopted a little girl, She became ill with RSV Dr MacElwain sure new what he was talking about. Our daughter was on the road to recovery after a short stay in Hosp. In 2006 I had a grandson born C-Section, He was the physician attending in the O.R. for him. I never saw a Dr. so consumed in his work at that moment. My grandson was not breathing and he worked away talking all the while and it felt like there was no one else there, Full attention was where it should be [on my grandson] Dr MacElwain you would make a great pediatrician.

This so called doctor is incompetent, to say the least. My father went to him for years and is now finally switching to a real doctor. He never did anything about a consistent cough my father had for years and when he took very ill, he ran some tests, took x-rays, and then gave him some pills to take. My father just got worse, finally went to outpatients where he got a REAL doctor who immediately knew what was going on and diagnosed my dad with lung disease. He got him in to a specialist the very next week and my father was set up on oxygen. The pills were tossed out as all they were doing was making him "run" to the bathroom all the time. Now because he was not diagnosed properly, a lot of damage has been done. He is not able to do anything. I noticed that this so-called doctor sings bass. I'm surprised by now he isn't singing tenor. If you care about your health or loved one's health, DON'T see this doctor. He knows absolutely nothing about the medical field.

Looking to get patients in and out. Usually asks the patients what they think should be done...and does it. Over-perscribes medicine. I have left out-patients in Woodstock and driven to Fredericton when the reception told me he was the doctor on call.

Perhaps he should be rated above average, if the goal of the Woodstock Hospital is to keep the patient flow at a minimum. From a near nasty attitude to prescribing Tylenol 3 for an ear infection, he doesn't seem to care so much for seeing the people as for watching them leave as quick as possible.

Terrible doctor as far as caring about patients...if I had a 'sick hen'....let alone myself or another adult....I would never expect any caring or positive actions....!!!! I totally agree that any contact with him has been 'from the doorway'of an examining room....and once was told that'' he had no idea'' what was wrong .... waited for him to return....peeked from the doorway after a lengthy time had elapsed to see him leaving the ER area....!!! Nice voice, I must say....perhaps he should invest in a SOUND SYSTEM and leave the medical profession to the PROFESSIONALS....!!!

I had the unfortunate pleasure of having him see me in emergency. How dare I get sick and make him do what is supposed to be his job.He could have cared less what my problem was.I was taken to the ER because of vaginal hemorrhaging and he stands at the bottom of the bed and tells me I'm just having a bad period and to go home. When a nurse helped me to the washroom, because I was dizzy from blood loss, she saw exactly what I was talking about and within 30 minutes I was on my way to Fredericton in an ambulance to see an OBGYN.I spent 3 days in the hospital on an IV recovering.Had I gone home I could have died. This doctor needs a little taste of his brand of medecine.Maybe someday he'll be sick and get a doctor who's sense of self-importance is seriously inflated. Here's hoping!!

I cannot comment on punctuality as I too have only seen him at the ER. RUDE does not begin to describe this "man". He does stand in the doorway and treats you like you are wasting his time. As an adult who NEVER goes to an ER unless it was urgent..I was taken by my husband due to severe headache and vomiting and pain. I was vomiting constantly in the room and could be heard through the ER (It was the middle of the night). He ignored the fact that I was there and sick for 45 minutes until my husband complained. Then he came in, had the "balls" to ask me why I was there. Anyways, we left and went back when ER dr's changed and I was admitted, had a spinal tap done for possible serious illness and was in hospital for 5 days. He acts like he is God's gift to the CMH but he is actually incompetent and ignorant. I would drive to Fredericton or Saint John to go to the ER in an emergency if this man were on call...

He is not my GP so I can't comment on his punctuality, my experiences with him are outpatients experiences, but I can comment that this man shouldnt even be allowed to practice anymore. He is extremely rude and a terrible diagnotician. Half the time he doesn't even come in the room with you, just stands in the doorway and barks out "What's the matter with you?". I had had abdominal surgery, was having unusual symptoms, he literally was in the doorway with me for 1 minute (I timed it) and told me I had a bladder infection and put me on antibiotics. Didn't even order a urine. I managed to get into my own doctor who ordered appropriate tests, and lo and behold.. I didnt' have an infection, and she was able to tell me what was wrong. This is a very common example of a visit to him. He just doesnt seem to care about his patients at all, and is not willing to spend any time going over symptoms. I always call before going to outpatients to see if he's on call...if he is, I don't waste my time

He is VERY RUDE. Seems like your taking up his time. I avoid all cost to not see him at outpatients. Most times you can't understand a word he says. He may be in the ER most times but I feel the reason why anyone can get an appointment with him at his office is because nobody wants him for a dr.

He is so rude.. Talks more to himself then to the patient. He comes across as either not caring and/or not knowing what is wrong. He seems to work more in ER then in his office.

One doctor that I would walk out out of the hospital if I knew he was on call. Rude, arrogant, horrible bedside manner, and makes you feel like your wasting his time. I would drive many miles just to avoid having to see him.
