17/09/13 5 5 5 5 Dr. Steinke, 13 years ago, my sister, Katherine, had no lease on life. Diagnosed with a rare brain stem tumor and pregnant with her first child, she was referred to you. You...saved her, and my niece. Throughout the 13 years, we had many ups and downs...and YOU...were there every step of the way. You gave us 13 years with her. In which time, she had two beautiful children. NONE of it would have been possible without your brilliance, determination and spirit. She adored your honesty, and when her final days were upon her, she thanked you for every second you gave her. You are truly a hero Dr. Steinke. THANK YOU...Tara Cesario.

30/10/11 5 5 5 5 Excellent Dr. In 1996, I came in with a broken neck, hangman's fracture. Not expected to make it through the night. Dr. Steinke reattached my ripped nerves, got me back together. Now, 15 years later, I have a brain tumour. I requested to see him, and thankfully can. Once again, he has gone over everything so clearly with me. For any Dr. to take 90 mins. to explain things to me is wonderful and unheard of. This man is so gifted, and he is so casual about it. Too bad more Dr. can not be like him.  Respond

09/09/11 5 5 5 5 I am an ongoing Brain Tumour patient. I cannot thank or say enough about this man. He doesn't sugar coat anything, but has a way about him that instills confidence. He is an amazing surgeon AND an amazing Doctor in general. I cannot imagine putting my life in another neurosurgeons hands. I am forever grateful.  Respond

21/07/09 5 5 5 5 Dr. Steinke did my mother's crainiotomy to remove a frontal lobe meningioma. He let my family in during the preoperative consultation and spend a good amount of time explaining risks, details of the surgery, and options. He left lots of time at the end for us to ask any questions he had. This surgeon has an excellent bedside manner. He is caring and genuine. In addition, he is a very experienced and talented surgeon. The other staff that he works with was also excellent in providing top notch care for my mother. We were all very happy with his service and would STRONGLY recommend him.  Respond

You can really tell he cares, and did a spot-on operation. Also, his follow up is unusually good. He has my highest regards. -Matthew Laycraft  Respond

10/11/08 5 5 5 5 Dr. Steinke was helpful in my situation and I was very thankful. We discussed what the future of my condition would be and how I can carry on with life. Although Spinal nerve damage isn't his primary area his information and explanation as to how everything relates helped with my confidence to return to a normal life style.  Respond

28/01/08 5 5 5 5 I had a tumor (menengioma) removed in Oct of 2007 by Dr Steinke. I found him to be outstanding in every way, shape and form.I was scared to death about the fact that I had a brain tumor and he somehow raised my comfort level with his professional handling of my situation. I owe him a personal debt of gratitude. I too spoke to many Hospital staff and they all had the utmost respect for Dr. Steinke. One Hospital employee told me that "if were to have my head opened up, I'd want Dr.Steinke to do it.  Respond

29/11/07 5 5 5 5 My husband had surgery for a brain tumour November, 2006 and Dr. Steinke was an excellent doctor. Yes he is busy but he treated both my husband and I with the utmost knowledge and with respect and kindness. He answered all our questions and even asked me, the wife, some questions as to what I had observed and what my concerns were with my husband's symtoms etc. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Steinke for all he has done for us. Everyone I talked to had nothing but high praise for him. Thank you, Dr. Steinke from the bottom of my heart.  Respond

17/10/07 5 5 5 5 I had a meningioma removed in Dec of 2000. Being 30 years old at the time, I was petrified to go through brain surgery. I was sent to see Dr. Steinke. He was kind, patient, honest and knowledgeable. Not once did he make me feel rushed or non important. He did everything in his power to make sure I was as comfortable as possible - even now, 7 years later. I am thankful that my family doctor referred me to Dr. Steinke. He is an excellent doctor. For those of you that had bad experiences with him, I am suprised. If you or someone close to you has to go through this type of life altering experience, I hope you are able to be a patient of Dr. Steinke's. He will take good care of you.  Respond

01/10/07 1 3 4 4 I had him operate on my Meningioma brain tumor in 1999, and found him at the time to be a wonderful dr and was told I was lucky to have him be the one to operate. As my follow up continues, I find that he has no time, unless it is deemed surgical. He just passes me off to my regular dr, even though my regular doctor said it was something that he would need to deal with. I have resigned myself to the CT scans every 2 years, and the phone call from his staff to tell me that there is no re-occurance of brain tumor.  Respond

23/08/07 3 5 5 5 Dr. Steinke saved my life, I was told by numerous people in medical field (Nurses, G.P's etc.) that he is the best in the world, especially if you have, as I did a VERY large Brain Tumour (Meningioma). Each and every person "in the field" said that if they had what I had, he is the person they would want to look after them, not one person said otherwise and NO these were not folks on his current staff, some had worked with him prior, some had observed or been instructed by him prior and some knew him by his excellent reputation. They were all correct! I feel lucky to have been in his capable hands as my surgery was done on an emergery basis as it was "life-threating" & when you are admitted into emergency you get who's there. In my case the Emergency unit at the U of A Hospital transferred me to the Royal Alex at Dr. Steinke's request. He really wanted to do this surgery, lucky, lucky me & lucky you if he is your Dr.  Respond

18/05/07 4 5 5 I have never left Dr. Steinkes office feeling like he could have told me more. He was compassionate, calm, and very knowledgable. I feel confident in his hands and am glad that my referral was to him and not to another doctor.  Respond

16/04/07 3 2 4 I had surgery in July of 2003. My outcome was not a sucess and when I brought it to his attention, he ignored my comments. Dr. Steinke is very full of himself and I found to be very arrogant. He did not believe the pain I had after the surgery was real and therefore did nothing more for me. To this day, I still have on going symptoms. When I asked what my next source of action was, he suggested I see a neurologist, and I felt he was dismissing my case. Hope you have better luck than I did.  Respond

10/03/07 5 5 5 In 2003 I was amitted to the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton, after having 6 Grand maul seizures and Dr. Steinke was my surgeon. I did not meet him until after I woke up in the hospital, 3 days after the seizures. It turned out I had a brain tumor. He was very kind, he listend to my concerns and answered all my questions. All my follow-up appointments with him where handled the same way with much respect and concern for my well being. When my husband was admitted to the U of A for a transplant, and I had forgotten my meds at home, I went to his office and he wrote out a perscription for me. He is a great Doctor and I owe him for, as I feel, saving my life. I would recomend Dr. Steinke to anyone. He is a busy man and yet he makes you feel like you are his only patient. As for the comment I read about a Rolex, I never saw one nor did he mention it. Thank you Dr. Steinke from the bottom of my heart. T. White.  Respond

09/02/07 5 5 5 Dr. Steinke performed a disectomy of the C6-7 in 2001. He was very thorough and I was very pleased with the outcome of my surgery. He appeared to be very confident and that is what I was looking for when I was faced with such a serious operation!  Respond

24/01/07 4 1 1 Dr. Steinke did not take any of my many symptoms seriously. Informed me that NONE of my symptoms were related to my condition. However, after seeking another opinion found out that ALL symptoms were in fact related and had surgery from a very caring exceptional Neurosugeon! Dr. Steinke has a huge ego and did I mention he has a rolex...because he sure likes to bring that to your attention!!!  See Responses
