22/10/13 3 4 5 5 Although he does go through a "script" with each patient, he has taken his experience with other patients and treats you as the regular diabetic who hasn't learned proper management techniques. Dr. Mahoney took me as a patient after I suffered a zero blood sugar for a period exceeding 5 minutes and taught me how to test and manage myself. I am in the best health of my 37 years of diabetes thanks to the doctor and am living a very good life now.

28/11/12 3 3 2 4 I have seen Dr. Mahoney several times and he is supposed to be one of the best. If he is talking and you want to bring up a question he will say wait till i am finished as it is almost like he is reading from a script which i find rude. My Dr. has tried to make an appointment several times and he gets the Receptionist recording saying she will return his call on several occasions and has not. I asked my Dr. to find another endocrinologist as i find that he if can't get an answer who can?  Respond

14/08/12 5 4 5 5 Thank-you a million times over Dr. Mahoney! you and your staff are the only reason I was able to have a healthy baby boy, almost 13 years ago. Oh, how I yearned to have a baby, and you and your team helped me believe in myself & equipped me with new skills to successfully carry out a full term pregnancy. I haven't seen you since then, but God bless you for being helpful, and non judgemental every single week you saw me. You're truly my hero! I wish you luck, love and laughter.  Respond

22/05/12 5 3 5 5 Dr Mahony is a great doctor if you listen to his advice. I only have to see him every 3 weeks because I follow his instructions exactly, and my gestational diabetes are kept well under control. The only people I have seen that seem to have a problem with him seem to be the ones who don't follow his advice. The wait times can run a bit long though  Respond

12/03/12 4 3 5 5 This doctor knows what he is doing and you will definitely benefit from listening and doing exactly what he says. He guided my daughter who has type one diabetes during her first successful pregnancy and is again tightening up her blood sugar control and helping her through her second. He is excellent.  Respond

19/02/12 4 3 5 5 I have always found Dr Mahoney extremely helpful and patient. He takes the time to explain things clearly and concisely whilst at the same time being sensitive to the anxieties of his patient. I would not hesitate in recommending him as I have the utmost faith and trust in him as a doctor.  Respond

04/01/12 3 4 1 1 He is a rude jerk plain and simple I asked for the pump he told me I wouldn't do it and made it very difficult for me he didn't want to sign the papers. Well he is not the only DR in town switched over to someone else I am now on the pump and the feeling great. What a jerk if I ask him a question why do you keep on referring to yourself as a third person? The good DR. likes to be addressed as DR. over and over so if you are going to see him for the first time get on his good side keep on calling him DR.  Respond

09/11/11 5 1 2 2 today, I left my appointment in tears. and it not the first time. 3 weeks ago he told me that my baby would be born "retarded" if i lost anymore weight and that i needed to gain some weight. So i gained weight and now im being told that i have gained to much weight and I BASICALLY NEED TO STARVE MYSELF!! I I will never see this Dr again, i think he is a complete a**hole. I have only gained 28 pounds throughout my entire pregnancy. He wanted to put me on insulin when I didn't need to be on it. He does not listen to anything you have to say.I would not recommended to anyone even my worst enemy.  Respond

26/09/11 3 3 5 5 I have always felt comfortable with Dr. Mahoney and he has always explain everything to me as I tend to be a bit nervous. He really seems to care. I really like him and am told he is quite knowledgeable. Don't let other people's bad experience persuade you from trusting in an excellent doctor.  Respond

23/11/10 3 3 4 5 I find he talks too fast and if you try to find out what a word is in mid sentence he cuts you off like you are interfering with his train of thought. My Dr. has called a least three times to only get a recording by his receptionist who says she will return his call but never does. I told him to find some one else or i will take my chances if he can't! I know he is busy, is good at what he does, but as soon as i step through his door i feel like i am on a stop watch.  See Responses

28/05/09 5 4 5 5 I saw Dr.Mahony recently. I did not think I would leave this appointment as happy as I did. I came to him with a very sensitive and personal issue and he was: extremely thorough, very helpful in addressing all of my concerns, and he has great beside manner - he made me feel very comfortable. I left my appointment not feeling like I had been rushed - he spent nearly an hour with me. I couldn't have asked for a better experience :)  Respond

16/02/09 5 4 5 5 Dr. Mahoney is amazing. He is a great doctor that took the time to carefully explain my condition and all of the tests I have taken, the results, and what they mean for me. He is super nice and very knowledgeable. He takes his time to explain everything in depth and answered any questions I had. He is one of the best doctors I have gone to.  Respond

02/05/08 4 4 1 5 I believe Dr Mahony is a very knowledgable doctor but he has no time to listen. My experience was that he made his own conclusions and had no time for input from me. My last two appointments with him were traumatizing and caused me to come to the conclusion that I would rather forego my health than ever have to see him again in my life. In my opinion his brilliance unfortunately is severely dimmed by his arrogant attitude.  Respond

25/03/08 1 1 1 1 Dr Mahoney was almost 2 hours late. Initially he seemed very thorough and polite. I asked him a question and suddenly and surprisingly he said, " Listen honey, I've got a waiting room full of people here ." . Ten percent of thyroid patients need Cytomel in addition to Synthroid or Eltoxin ( as I now know from my new endocrinologist at VGH ) , but Dr. Mahoney is not up to date and actually got angy with me when I asked about Cytomel. He is an old fashioned, dogmatic endrocrinologist .. and there are a lot of them out there. His personality disorder comes in second to this as a gigantic problem.  See Responses

11/12/07 2 1 2 2 Dr. Mahony believes that there is only one way to treat whatever disese you might have - his way. When I wanted to be seen by another endocrinologist for a second opinion he became very upset and could not hide his disappointment. He was loud, angry and reduced me to tears. Out of the dozen or so times I saw him he was never on time. Not once. One time he was late over two hours. If you are looking for an open-mided doctor who will treat you well, doctor Mahony is not it.  Respond

27/05/07 5 5 5 Dr. Mahoney is an excellent doctor. He might seem harsh but he is very passionate about what he does. He has helped me better control and understand my diabetes. He also answers all my questions and also takes into consideration all my other health problems. He has helped me come up with a game plan for effectively controlling my diabetes in accordance to my live style. He's is prompt in keeping all my other physicians up to speed. I have seen other endocrinologist and he is by far the best one out there. I never felt like he wasn't on my side. One thing about Dr. Mahoney is that he will give it to you straight, sometimes with a self care disease like diabetes you need to be reminded of the complications and the severity of this disease if left uncontrolled. He has helped me immensely for which I am grateful.  Respond

08/05/07 3 5 5 I have been seeing Dr. Mahoney for about 7 years since being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He has the reputation of being the best of the best and I would agree with that. You often have to wait to get in to see him but when you do, he gives you all the time you need. He is well worth the wait. I think he is amazing.  Respond

05/04/07 3 5 5 Dr. Mahony is the best endochronologist I have ever met. I have had insulin dependent diabetes for 32 years and I cannot tell you how great it is to meet someone who has all the current knowledge. The reason this poor man has to answer calls during patient clinic time, is because everyone wants a piece of him. He is the best and I will do whatever he says to stay healthy.  Respond

12/03/07 1 2 3 After waiting 75 minutes for my appointment he answered the phone no less than 5 times during my appointment. He does seem to know what he's talking about medically and he does get the tests required and follows up which was a pleasant surprize. He outright dismissed my concerns about symptoms which tells me he doesn't see the person just his medical diagnosis. Overall I'm not satisfied with being referred to him and I'm going to let my family Doctor know.  Respond

21/01/07 1 1 1 He turned from Dr. Jekel into mister Hyde halfway through the appoitment. In hospital, I learned that the nurses had to gang up on him and tell him to behave nicely. He didn't help me with my medical problem at all because he failed to listen to me. I received good help from another endrocrinologist.  Respond
