04/02/14 1 1 1 1 What Dr Harvey Lui did to me is by definition categorized as a medical malpractice. He charged me for a treatment. Then he decided not to do the treatment and demonstrated absolute negligence. Then His office manager, Nina, refused to refund my money and She wouldn't let me speak with Dr Lui about it either. They won't even return my calls anymore. I'll be taking this complaint to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. I never expected to be ripped off by a doctor!  Respond

09/10/12 5 5 5 5 Dr. Lui is an excellent doctor who is highly qualified and respected in his field. From my experience , I would definitely recommend him. Perhaps the patients who are not happy with his services have unrealistic expectations .  Respond

24/09/10 1 1 1 1 Not someone I would go to again. Seems I am not alone in my opinions of what a horrible person this Dr is. I will NEVER go back to this Lui again.  Respond

18/03/10 1 1 1 1 Emotionless, no eye contact, rude and nothing for a personality. I would have to be high to go back and see this overpaid, overated a goof that calls himself a doctor.  Respond

17/09/09 4 1 1 1 not at all helpful, should take up a few lessons in customer service. A waste of money and time. I highly suggest finding another dermatologist. His Staff on the other hand were very pleasant and helpful.  Respond

16/08/09 3 1 1 2 All I have to say is that Lui is very arrogant and egotisitcal with zero people skills. Has no consideration of his patients' time. Waited more than an hour to see him and ended up getting a parking ticket. A total jerk and a loser. You are only a dermatologist...you need to respect others no matter if they are inferior to you. Being a little personable wouldn't harm you.  Respond

31/07/09 4 5 5 5 Good guy, I have been under his care for several years with a chronic disease. He is willing to try new treatments, and will discuss any approach you want to take. Like any doctor, he prefers a patient who is somewhat 'informed'. Also, he is leading edge with his treatments, which gives a lot of patient the best chance to receive the most up to date, effective treatments. Contrary to some of the above opinions, I find him to be always personable.  Respond

21/01/09 4 3 1 1 Dr Lui is arrogant and rude! I will never go back. I think all he cares about is charging you money, this is the type of doctor that gives the "real" doctors who actually want to help patients a bad name. I know he is a specialist so maybe that is why he thinks he is better than everyone else. I just want some information and hopefully to be healed from my skin infections. I dont need to go to his office to be belittled. I wouldnt recommend this "doctor" to anyone ever.  Respond

17/09/08 5 3 1 3 Lui is a hypocrite. Dr. Vincent Ho is a far better physician and is extremely personable. Lui actually studied under Dr. Ho.  Respond

09/09/08 5 1 2 2 The first time I saw this Doctor was about 7 years ago. At the time he helped me with my condition and I was so grateful I didn't even notice his bedside manner. Since then my condition has spiraled out of control. I waited six months to see him all the time suffering and trying to figure out what to do. After waiting an hour in his office he spent about 30 seconds with me and never really talked to me directly or even touched or looked closely at my skin. He then proscribed my two medications which his student tried to explain to me. I had already made it clear that I didn't wish to use steroids, nobody seemed to be listening to me. I would say he knows a lot about his field but he treats his patients like symptoms not as people with feelings. So now I am waiting to see another Derm (6 more months). Oh an let's not forget the $40 parking ticket I got because the appointment went so late!  Respond

28/08/08 5 2 5 4 Dr. Lui was thorough and provided options to me; he was very clear about what he knew and what he was not comfortable with (prescribing certain compounds). Interestingly enough he left some of the treatments as options for me to decide, though he made recommendations. He warned me of the side effects of one drug and to not use it with sun exposure. I thought that was great, usually you find out about that at the pharmacy. His examine was thorough and the history that he and the resident took was also very thorough. His bedside manner was very polite, succinct and professional. I think that sometimes patients are put off by Dr's who are succinct and not inclined to engage in a bit of small chat during the consult. That was not the case for me, I found him to be very considerate by not ruling out treatment options and taking an interest in what the patient was interested in. I would have to give him high marks, he was quite knowledgeable and professional.  Respond

01/02/08 5 1 5 5 The wait time is a little long (both for getting an appointment and then waiting for a long time in the office on appointment day). Very helpful and knowlegable. The receptionists are super nice and friendly.  Respond

29/01/08 5 1 5 5 While I agree with the long wait time (waited 4 months for an appointment and he was running an hour behind at my appointment), Dr. Lui was very helpful and knowledgeable. He seemed to rush a little through the appointment but he was willing to answer my questions and gave me new medications which are now helping my condition (whereas my previous doctor's medications didn't even after repeated visits). Overall a very good doctor.  Respond

17/12/07 5 4 5 5 This is the same Dr. Lui I've been seeing for years? I've had nothing but VERY PLEASANT visits with him and often the appointment is filled with not only what is physically necessary to do, but lots of humour too. I think he's a great doctor and a great guy. Bedside manner is important of course, but in the end do you want a nice pilot or a good pilot?  Respond

22/11/07 3 5 4 4 I just saw him for the first time and was impressed. I had been worried after reading some not so nice things about him on this site. I got in right away, didn't wait even a minute. I found him pleasant and he put me at ease. Easy to talk to. The medical student with him was great...he will make a great doctor. When I had to book a follow up appt, was difficult to find a time that works with my work schedule and his, but guess this means he is popular. I feel privileged to have seen this doctor.

21/07/07 5 4 5 5 Dr. Lui was worth the wait, and I understand that he is incredibly busy so I didn't feel to bad when he was a bit rushed in my appointment. I went to see him for his knowledge and for a proper diagnosis (which I got.)Definately reccomend him to my friends and family. I've read about him in newspapers, seen him on T.V., heard him on the radio and know that he is a world-wide expert on dermatology.  Respond

29/06/07 1 1 1 1 Dr. Lui is very RUDE. All he cares about is money. I agree with the other comments that he has poor personal skills. Do not recommend him at all  Respond

02/05/07 1 1 1 Yes he "may" know what he is talking about, but what an "a" hole. He never provided any assistance to my condition and was extremely rude. One of his questions was "what do you think your problem is". Well gee, if I had that answer I wouldn't have waited 6 months to see you or wait 2 hours in your waiting room. I will never go back to this egotistical goof again. Better go back to you little friend in Maple Ridge Lui. Maybe he will stroke your ego among other things.  Respond

10/04/07 2 4 4 I had three visits to date with Dr. Lui. I found his bedside manner very brisk and rude. I had to wait over two hours past my appointment and when I did finally get in to see him, he brushed me off like I was nothing, that it was my fault he was running behind. As for his knowledge and how he helped me? GREAT! My condition is getting better and better and he is good at what he does! I just hope he works on his bedside manner and treat his patients, who wait a LONG time to see him, better.  Respond

13/03/07 1 1 3 Some comments are good and some are bad. My time with Dr. Lui was terrible. This Dr. was insensitive, very rude, insulting and an out right jerk. People get beat up when they behave like he did. I was shocked when he was talking to me.... it was as if I had done him wrong sometime in the past (although I never me him before)and he was getting some knid of revenge. I would not recommend this idiot to anyone. Not even my dog!  See Responses

12/03/07 2 5 5 Dr. Lui is one of the leading dermatologists in Vancouver. His time is always very tight, and wait times to see him are always long. However, he is the most knowledgeable dermatologist I have seen (even more than his own teacher). I have been under his care for over 7 years for a chronic condition, and he has always given me enough information and options to make an informed decision about my treatment.  Respond

05/02/07 3 5 4 I had a great experience with him. Friendly and patient. Heard me out and discussed my options. Have used him for private and MSP.  Respond

23/01/07 5 2 2 His question to me when I told him my concern was "Do people ever ask "what's wrong with you?" I found this to be very hurtful because my issue was extremely minor. He was brisk, and I had to ask a lot of questions about things he should have been telling me (aftercare etc.). Not recommended.  Respond
RID: 103738
20/01/07 3 3 4 I also found him to be rude.I had to go see him twice for tx of a condition. After my first visit it took everything I had, to go to the secound appointment to finsh the treatment.  Respond
