I saw Obrien after two months of severe back pain at the age of 25. After examining me for the firt time (no MRI taken), he informed me that I was going to have back surgery and wanted to schedule the surgery for three weeks later. He also wanted me to have an MRI done in HIS office. I freaked out, and told him that back surgery was a HUGE deal and that I didn't know HOW he knew I needed surgery from ONE office visit and not test results. I refused to schedule surgery in three weeks. Luckily for me, I have an uncle that lives several states away that is a neurosurgeon.I called him and told him what had happened at Dr.Obriens. He said that back surgery is ALWAYS the very last resort. He called the local hospital, ordered an MRI,and had them overnight it to his office. I DID NOT need back surgery. I had PULLED A MUSCLE. My uncle sent me to physical therapy for 3 months and my back was fine and it still fine. Be careful with doctors that are to eager to sign you up for major surgery.
