:) Click to report rating *  12/11/09 3 5 4 POSITIVES are: I always see Dr. Kagan right away, I never have to wait long and once I am in the actual room, it is only a 5-8 min wait max. She instantly eases your anxiety the moment she walks into the room. I don't think I've met such a relaxing individual who happened to be a Doc! Very easy going. CONCERNS are: I do everything I can to stay informed regarding health related issues. In the past, she recommended acupuncture for my side pain. I, personally, feel that acupuncture is a bit of a scam and wonder what scientific merit it has. Even so, docs have their opinions too. Okay, fair enough. Also because I am under 30, I worry that I could easily be viewed more in terms of a statistic. Anytime I probe further re an existing ailment, I get the sense that it is viewed as paranoia. If I push the issue a little, I end up with a medication. I am just a little wary that if I don't push sometimes, that an issue may be treated as trivial or go untreated entirely. But overall, A+ doctor.

:) Click to report rating *  5/15/09 4 4 5 I met Mary Kagan at Kensington Medical Cntr 6 years ago and last year moved to the Island, I would book my appointments with her still even though I lived on the Island. I am now back in BBY and am glad Dr Kagan is so close. It is hard to find a good Dr. as I have had a few and with Dr. Kagan I would trust my first born with her. And it is hard to please all the people all the time but I find Dr. kagan to be Direct and honest even if you don't want to hear it, she tells it like it is. Keep up the good work Dr Kagan your one of the good guys.

:( Click to report rating *  4/12/09 1 2 1 I would not give Dr. Kagan top marks. While I went to her for five years and only had a few complaints about her. However, when I was going to her at Kensington she referred me to a doctor who did things that seemed to be unethical, she told me to "make the best of it and accept the information I want, and ignore the things I don't like". She admitted she did not know anything about this doctor except that he sent a brochure to her office. I now know this doctor has had complaints filed against him. Perhaps she only wants patients who are compliant. For me the last straw was when she moved to her own practice after running both walk-in and a family practice through Kensignton Walk In Clinic. At this point she picked and chose her patients. Although I had seen her for 5 years as my family doctor, she refused to see me "because her practice was full"

:) Click to report rating    3/13/09 4 4 5 Some years ago I spent quite a while going to walk-in clinics rather than the family doctor I had at the time. It was easy for me to find a knowledgeable doctor, but not so easy to find a considerate one. Then I stumbled upon Dr. Kagan; and, though she's a 90-minute drive away, I've been with her ever since. No matter what I'm facing medically, her optimistic and nonjudgmental demeanour reminds me that it's not all bad. Thank you Dr. Kagan!

:) Click to report rating    2/13/09 5 5 5 Dr. Kagan is a pleasure to see. I may come in anxious but her competence and kindness has me leaving in a peaceful state. She knows her limitations and has referred us to specialists if needed. It is evident she enjoys what she does. My children feel comfortable with her as well.

:) Click to report rating    1/13/09 5 5 5 I LOVE Dr. Kagan. I have been seeing her for years at Kensington and was delighted to follow her to the new office. She is always so considerate and when I start talking about my concerns, she puts everything down and looks me right in the eye, which is so very rare in other drs. She always gives me her full attention and gives me her honest opinion. I tell all my friends to go and see her if they are dr hunting. She is knowledgeable and passionate about the care her patients receive.

:( Click to report rating *  1/12/09 1 2 1 My son was stabbed 6 times in the back and he went to her because he previously did not have a doctor in BC. It has been 9 months and he has been back several times to see her and with something so serious as being stabbed she did nothing to follow up. He finally asked her to go for a chest xray and he has damage to a lung and should have been sent to a respritory therapist or something. He has a new doctor know who knows how serious his condition is.

:( Click to report rating    12/5/08 2 1 1 She was my doctor in Nanaimo years ago. I had severe lower ovary pain, she insisted that I was pregnant (even though I told her, I was not active) she didn't believe me and ordered a pregnancy test. It came back negative - what a surprise. Years later when I got married we had a lot of trouble conceiving, the cause of that pain ~ endometriosis. Thank you Dr. Kagan for not listening or investigating, you could have saved me years of pain and heartache. Unless you have the common cold you could be in trouble.

:) Click to report rating    11/30/08 2 2 3 Dr. Kagan has been our family doctor for about 4 years now and we've always told everyone how lucky we are to have her. But the past few visits we've seen things change. We seem to get less time per visit, and seem to spend our visit being told to "shhhh" so she can 'talk' to her computer. She makes diagnoses without a physical exam. I think she's a great doctor, but she's been caught up in the 'clinic' atmosphere where number of patients is more important than the patients themselves. I got more time and caring from the doc at the walk-in clinic that I did from her last time I went. It's a shame.

:) Click to report rating    5/18/08 5 5 5 Dr.Mary Kagan was doctor to my mother and myself. She is without a doubt the "ver best" doc. we have ever, and will ever have. We want her back in Nanaimo. PLEASE Mary come back to us.She is everything you would ever want and need in a doctor wrapped up in one VERY special package!respected, knowledgeable, professional, not on a 'pedestal' in her own mind, kind and HUMAN!

:| Click to report rating    3/1/08 1 4 2 Dr. Kagan may be a good doctor, but she's hampered by younger members on the clinic's staff who are overconfident and incompetent. The lab sent some important blood test results to this clinic on a recent Friday and it wasn't until after I advised the clinic's staff of this fact ON THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY that they finally got around to locating them! Of course, as always, they used the "new computer system" as their excuse for this dangerous incompetence. Needless to say, my family will not be returning there. It's too bad. I can see that Dr. Kagan is highly intelligent and puts 100% into her passion (practicing medicine), but she's under much more stress than she needs to be because of a few incompetent young hotshots who, for whatever reason, are entrusted to work at that clinic. I could go on--but we've moved on--so I won't. Good luck to all of you who are still dealing with that clinic!

:) Click to report rating    1/4/08 5 5 5 I recently visited Dr Kagan at her new office. The staff is very friendly there, and my appointment was right on time. Quite a different atmosphere than at the drop-in Kensington clinic. Dr Kagan is very patient, knowledgeable, and actively listens to my rambling of aches and pains. If anyone needs a female doctor, I highly recommend her.

:) Click to report rating    9/26/07 5 5 5 I really really like her as my doctor. I had an appointment with her just before she left the Kensington clinic, so she told me about her move. I think it is more the clinic than her. I am so glad she left that place- the staff was so disorganized seeming and it was a hectic environment. She never makes me feel rushed, and is always very warm and caring. Very knowledgable too. Excellent doctor.

:) Click to report rating    9/23/07 5 4 5 I think Dr. Kagan is terrific. She certainly has strong opinions, but I appreciate them. I saw her before she left Kensington clinic and she told me she was moving and gave me her new info. Thank heavens!

:) Click to report rating    9/22/07 4 5 5 I, too, have found Mary Kagan an excellent physician. She really listens and gives good advice. I never feel that she's anxious to be done with me and on to the next patient. As for the shift from the Kensington clinic, I'd be cautious about blaming her for the lack of communication; I'm more inclined to suspect the clinic. My husband had a similar experience with a different doc from the same clinic; they just refused to tell him where she went and he had to track her down on the internet. That said, when I phoned them for an appt with Mary, the person on the phone immediately redirected me to her present practice. <shrug>

:) Click to report rating    8/7/07 5 5 5 Re the comment: Dr Kagan switching offices - I am a current patient of the doctor and I'm very happy with her. I did find that my hairdresser happened to be a patient of hers at the old clinic at Kensington/Hastings and she was shocked to find out that I was seeing her. Apparantly she suddently left that Kensington clinic and her current patients were not informed. My hairdresser called to make an appt to see her one day and found she was gone. The clinic refused to give her contact details. She's an awesome doctor, but in this case I think that if she had a permanent client base, these people should have been informed of her move. She now practices out of a clinic at Beta/Hastings.

:) Click to report rating    3/29/07 5 5 Dr. Kagan was my doctor in Nanaimo. She is professional and thorough. She has a great manner with patients and puts one at ease. Nanaimo's loss is Burnaby's gain - we'd like her back!

:) Click to report rating    3/13/07 5 5 Although there's never enough time, this is one doctor who seriously tries to make the most of whatever time has been booked. She seems very knowledgeable and thorough, not willing to play guessing games or "pooh-pooh" everything you tell her. I actually feel that THIS doctor respects my intelligence and does NOT put herself on a pedestal. On the other hand, I also feel that THIS doctor has some very strong opinions about lifestyle and prevention, and that she expects patients to follow her advice. This, too, is good. With Doctor Mary Kagan, I think it's ALL good. For what it's worth, I should also mention that she also seems to be highly respected--even admired--by other doctors who have made extremely positive comments about her methodology.

:) Click to report rating    3/12/07 5 5 Wondeful at patient impowerment...openminded and a good listener...yet also offers strong opinions. I am a new patient with a very complicated medical history and appreciate her open mind. Lucky to have found her...especially when I saw 5 docs who refused to take me because I had more than three conditions to manage.
