:| Click to report rating    6/25/09 1 3 1 I waited 2 or 3 months, travelled 2 1/2 hours to see him, and had a 10 minute visit. He was extremely rude with me from the minute I walked in. He very quicly checked me out, and told me what he thought the problem was, then left so quickly i couldnt ask any questions. I later had to wait for him outside his closed office door so that i could get any information (other than the name) about my condition, instead i settled for him writing down the name of the condition so i could research it myself. I have no idea if he is correct about whats wrong with me(too soon to tell), but he is a terrible person.

:( Click to report rating    2/10/09 3 5 1 Ask yourself one question - why do you have to wait for 1 - 2 years to see every other rheumatologist in the province when his waiting room is empty? He is probably competent but he is the worst doctor I've ever seen - perfunctory examinations, and curt to the point of rudeness.

:) Click to report rating    1/7/09 5 5 5 We have been patients of Dr. Ecker for approx 12 years. He is a terrific doctor. He is not there socialize but rather to help his patients. We drive 150km to see him and believe me it is worth the time and drive. When my husband was very ill, it was Dr. Ecker who got him back on his feet. We thank him very much.

:) Click to report rating    11/6/08 5 5 5 I agree that his bedside manner could be improved but he is the only doctor that I have seen recently who actually seems to listen and to act appropriately. He has shown wisdom in his dealings with me and I am reassured by his actions on my behalf.

:| Click to report rating    3/14/08 2 5 3 This was my first and last visit to Dr. Ecker. My rating: promptness - excellent but I was the only patient in the waiting room; knowledgeable - I will give a mediocre rating as I don't think he talked to me other than to ask what happened when I came into contact with latex (I have a severe allergic reaction). I also react to ASA but the med he prescribed was ASA based so he also precribed a med for my stomach to take with it. (By the way, my pharmacist when I had the prescriptions filled questioned me at length about the ASA based med being prescribed with my history of allergies to ASA). The examining room was very untidy. As I also cannot tolerate fragrancies, I was dismayed that the examining gown was washed/dried in a fragrance based product. Unfortunately, after 3 days of suffering from nausea and pain in my abdomen I cannot take the prescribed med anymore. The sad thing is, I was not in pain from my arthritis for that duration.

:| Click to report rating    11/6/07 2 5 2 A 3½ hour drive for a 4 minutes visit. Yes, he help me with my pain, but he has no personality with his patients. Very cold, and doesn't seem to have time to answer questions.

:) Click to report rating    10/25/07 5 5 5 My experiences with rheumatologists in Saint John were extremely negative - 2-5 hour waits, no information to either myself or my family physician, no return of phone calls, inadequate information regarding medications prescribed. In desperation, for relief (aren't we all?) I asked for a referral 5yrs ago and have never regretted it! Dr. Ecker has been an amazing source of knowledge, help, and support. He is definitely puctual, and after some marathon waits in Saint John, I have no complaint with this!! My phone calls have always been returned. I would not say that he is rude, but that he has an economy of words - I pass the time of day with people who have time for it! The office staff have always been top-notch and will accomodate if possible. I have had to see him for unexpected flare-ups, and additional appointments outside of the scheduled recalls and have always been accomodated. He is also a terrific advocate for his patients. I know that I'm glad to have found this doctor!

:) Click to report rating    6/25/07 5 5 I had to write about this doctor. My family doctor knows absolutely nothing but did refer me to Dr. Ecker. He was on time and very pleasant. He asked me a bunch of questions and treated me. My pain has significantly reduced since seeing him about 10 months ago.

:) Click to report rating    4/15/07 5 5 I find he is the best doctor for arthritis he has help my husband too much to mention. and yes he does not talked that much but if you ask he sure will explain and answer your questions. I find he explains to me as much as he does to my husband, we both feel he is one of the best. my husband sees him every 6 months for the past 3 year and he is a life saver. thank you Dr Ecker.

:| Click to report rating    3/28/07 3 2 Why is it that a "specialist" is so rude, with absolutely no social/people skills?? He made me so nervous, he wouldn't even make eye contact.....just abruptly told me to take the med's he prescribed, then ended the visit by walking out the door! I waited for months to see him, then he spent 3 minutes with me!

:( Click to report rating    3/16/07 2 1 I went into his office because i tested positive for ANA.. i was stressed not knowing what was gunna come of everything. But i knew in 4 months i was gunna see Dr.Ecker and he would explain everything to me, that made me feel a little more at ease. Well i was WRONG, i was in his office for 3-5 mins and left there more confused then anything. I was very dissapointed and I didn't feel comfortable AT ALL in his office.

:) Click to report rating    3/15/07 5 5 Dr. Ecker is very punctual which was a plus for my husband who does not like waiting. With Dr. Ecker's help, my husband was able to work for an extra 11 years. He does not talk to his patients much but he will explain things when asked.

:) Click to report rating *  3/14/07 5 5 I cannot express the gratitude I have for this extemely knowledgable Doctor. It is because of him that I am walking and leading an almost normal life today. He is very professional, but expects you to follow his instruction to the letter, which has always been to my benifit. He has always been kind and gentle and has the most keen sense of humour once you find it. We are so lucky to have a doctor of his calibre in our fair city.

:( Click to report rating    3/14/07 2 1 Rude, does not spend time with his patients and he does not care at all. Going to him was total waist of time.

:( Click to report rating    3/13/07 2 1 I saw the doctor for painful arthritis in my hands. He prescribed a medication that if taken by a patient with a risk of heart problems could prove to have serious complications. I advised him of my familial history yet he did not warn me of the possible complications. Thank God for my family physician, she caught the problem , but I had already been taking the medication for over 1 month. When I told her he did not advise me of the heart risk, she read aloud the letter he sent to her and was suspicious that it was a form letter with my name and body part changed. this report stated that he warned me of the side effects. This doctor, in my opinion, is incompetent and dangerous.

:) Click to report rating    3/13/07 5 5 I am so disappointed to see the negative rating of this fabulous doctor. I have been going to him for 10 years, he takes his time with me, very professional and has me walking, which I wouldn't be if it wasn't for him. He is very knowledgeable and certainly up-to-date with all medications. I have found that he has an excellent bedside manner and will go above and beyond to help you any way that he can. He is like the rest of us-being human and not a miracle worker. I call him "my knight in shining armour". He has a heavy workload, like other doctors, and if he is late with one patient, he is late for them all and that would certainly mess his day. I only have one more thing to say 'DR. ECKER KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK." I must omment on his staff as well, she is excellent and very accommodating.

:( Click to report rating    3/13/07 2 1 Just another pill pusher, but he has a licence to do this legally.. Gave me one drug (Bextra) This causes internal bleeding as a side effect, but still he gave it to a person (MESELF) with Chron's Disease..Told him it was causing more problems than good and sure enough he gave me another drug that does the same thing..I think doctors are makeing decisions based on how much of this drug can the can sell or push for profits and spin-offs through the drug representive who shows up very often...I got another doctor just down the hall and he tried to do the same, so I got a 3rd doctor in a new city (Moncton) I'm now on Remicade after 3 years of having my chain yanked..Playing with sick people lives is there job, but they should be more of a DOCTOR than a pusher....

:| Click to report rating    3/8/07 5 1 too bad when a doctor is so intelligent they think they are better than others, i guess they can't teach bedside manner, this doctor was rude, disregarded my painful hands and replied something under his breath as though it was no big deal to have pain everyday, going for answers, came out way worst, what a waste of time. but he got paid nonetheless, if I would have been paying out of my pocket, I would not have paid the bill, no service, no payment

:) Click to report rating    2/2/07 5 5 I am walking today because of this man! I went undiagnosed for 20 years before finally being referred to him. I cannot say enough good things about this man - he came to visit me in the hospital when I was in for an a matter un-related to him, he fights to get the tests and treatments I require without making me wait for months on end. So he's not the most talkative man in the world - he's a doctor, not your best friend! The quality of life I have know has to be credited to him and to him alone - I am pain free and mobile. I would be in a wheelchair by now if not for the excellent care I get from him when I go for my appointments every 6 months. He may not talk a lot during the appointments, but what he does say is important and helpful. Would you rather have a 20 minute visit with no results or a 4 minute visit that is very productive? Excellent, excellent, excellent doctor!!!

:( Click to report rating    2/2/07 4 2 I agree with these statements. If you are expecting a doctor with a great bedside manner, you'd be best seeing someone else. If it wasn't so difficult to find another specialist, I wouldn't be seeing him at all.

:( Click to report rating    1/20/07 2 1 He is indeed a four-minute wonder. He is on time only because he spends no more than 4 mintues with a patient. Abrupt is putting it mildly. I drove a loved one to an appointment with him. There was no one else in the waiting room. Good, I thought, shouldn't be too long. I picked up a magazine, and to my shock,to my horror, my loved one was back before I turned the second page in the magazine. If he doesn't want to to answer questions or even speak to his patients, some of whom are young, and facing a devasting disease, he shouldn't have become a doctor, especially not a doctor whose specialty is Rheumatoid arthritis.

:( Click to report rating    1/15/07 4 1 He's a four-minute man-- He likes to get you in and out of his office as quick as possible. This is why there is no waiting time in this doctor's waiting area; he doesn't spend any time with his patients! I time him every visit, and my longest visit was a wopping four whole minutes! He seems to know what he's talking about, but anytime I asy him any questions, he abruptly answers them while he's opening his door for me to leave. He is uncaring, abrupt, and has absolutely no people skills.
