The wait is horribly long but yes it is worth the wait considering how knowledgeable the Doc is. He thorough explains everything and make and reassures any doubts. He is very personable. Very father like. I'm in my early 30's & have been a patient for almost 10yrs. I do have to say that the staff is sometimes not as helpful esp there is 1 in particular who is very rude & quite intimidating. Very unprofessional and always surprises me she still there from day 1 but I guess she does something right just not her personality.

I waited in the waiting room for 1 1/2 hours, then waited another hour after seeing the nurse practitioner for the doctor. I ended up seeing Dr. Frohlick. She showed no emotion or concern at all. Asked me all of 5 questions and that was it, gave me my medication, told me how to use it and that's it. The same day I had an ultrasound appointment (I am also pregnant). I STRESSED to them that I had to get the ultrasound that day to see if it was a viable pregnancy because I had diabetes. They could care less!! Needless to say I never got to my u/s appointment. I went there once and have NEVER gone back. I don't care if they were the only doctors in the state, I would've traveled to another state!! NO THANK YOU!!

The 1st time I made my appt for this doctor, I was told I couldnt see him until the 2nd visit, on the 1st visit it was bloodwork only. While I was being prepped for the blood, a 2nd nurse came into the room to ask the nurse prepping me to do something for her, and while I was sitting there my nurse yelled at her and put her fists right in the face of the 2nd nurse, If that wasnt stress enough, my 2nd visit was a 3 hr wait for a 10 min consultation, and more bloodwork, when I came back for my 3rd visit, I was told my appt was cancelled, my blood work was fine, I told them I had only seen the doctor one time, and I needed the explanation of all the blood tests, they refused me an appt, told me I was already set up to come back in one year, never saw the doctor, and was never offered an apology, I took my files and ran out the door with them, This is a horribly managed Practice ! his office staff needs a psych evaluation.

tho the wait is long i have never been more pleased with a doctor in my life. when he catches me in the hallway i get nothing but a big smile & hug from him EVERY time. i alternate between seeing him & the NP & when i do see him it is nothing but helpful comforting & informative. i have never gotten a sense of being rushed out of the room by him, & if anything, i think i may make the patients after me wait a little longer than normal because we often talk about things other than diabetes. he asks about school/work/family/etc & i find that to be proof that he does care about his patients. i have many hours of tattoos on my body & NEVER have been judged. in fact he often jokes about when i am going to add a tattoo to commemorate him. i cannot express how much i adore him & his staff. i called today & the receptionist knew who i was the second i said my last name & greeted me w/ excitement. if you dont like it, don't go! i'll get into the room faster if unappreciative people aren't there!

I agree with the many who commented that the waiting time is horrendous. My opinion of the nursing and paraprofessional staff is that they are ok; not outstanding, but not bad either. (exception: the receptionist has an attitude and seems careless about details.) Dr. Tohme has usually been attentive to me, though he seems rushed (for which he is often apologetic) because of the office backlog. He seems knowledgable, though he doesn't seem to volunteer lots of information. Be sure you know what questions to ask him. He will know and share the answers with you. I was recently in the hospital for emergency surgery (unrelated to my diabetes) and gave the ER his name to be contacted. He responded quickly, saw me, reassured me because I was scared, and gave good instructions to the hospital staff for my care. I see no reason at this time to change endocrinologists. He has recently added a new, young doctor to his practice. She seems much less knowledgable, though she is pleasant.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE! STAY AWAY FROM HIM. Has so many patients, he doesn't care because he's only endo MD in area. "Where else RU going to go." Every visit = 2 hr wait. Told me TSH was elevated. Poss Graves disease, shd go to hospital, get MRI & CATscan within 2-3 wks. I was leaving for 6 day trip. 2nd day message from Tohme "hospital appt set for tom'w". No one had checked w/me. Then message from Tohme "Urgent, call me". I call: he tells me staff worked hard to sched appt. Told him no one checked w/me so need to resched. Over next 3 months, 17 calls to his office, leaving messages for his ass't, Ramona, to sched hosp appt. No response. Finally refuse to wait - tell Tohme's receptionist I'm holding till Ramona free: "I've left 4 messages in last 3 days & no ret'd call. "Receptionist says "I only see 2, so what's the problem?" This typifies overall Tohme experience. After test results I get treatment, but learn more about aftercare from radiologist then I did from Tohme

I absolutely love DR Tohme. After numerous miscarriages, Dr Tohme had a light bulb moment and figured out what was wrong. I am now the Mother to three beautiful children (he worked VERY well).. He called me on a Sunday night to see how I was feeling because I had bronchitis with a high fever. I am moving back to NJ and will be driving at least one hr to go back to his practice. Yes, there is a wait. But if you contact them before your appointment, they will let you know how long the wait is. In my opinion, Dr Tohme is WORTH the wait.

This is the rudest most inconsiderate office staff ever encountered. The only time they seem to jump is when its time to collect the copay. Then the wait is 3 or more hours for a 10 min consultation. Not recommended and after reading all these comments, I myself have had 3 office visits, blood drawn on the 1st visit, and not allowed to see the dr until the 2nd visit, which was a 3hr wait for a 10 min consultation, 2nd round of blood drawn, then when I came for the 3rd visit and test results, I never got in to see the Dr I was eliminated from the system and told I didnt have to come back for one year all my results were ok, without any explanation or apology. I took whatever paperwork was in my file and ran out the door. Office staff is horribly mismanaged. Do yourself a favor and find a nice respectable practice somewhere else. Not recommended at all.

Both my daughter and I have been seeing Dr. Tohme for about three years. He was successful in identifying her problem and establishing an effective treatment. Both she and I think he is competent and selectively caring ( our experience has been positive)judging from many of the reviews on this site. As has been stated, the wait-time is never less than 2 hours in the front office and more time inside. Up till now she and I have put up with the wait because we felt he was present and attentive for us when we finally got to see him. However, recently, my daughter had to reach him urgently and after 10 days of consistent phone calls to the office and multiple 15 minute on-hold times, a subordinate doctor got back to her. The office staff once filed my blood work in her chart despite our having different last names. We have also both encountered dismissiveness, insensitivity and rudeness from the office workers. We are both looking for another endocrinologist.

Does anyone have an email address for this Dr? He has had my father's brain MRI results since Wednesday afternoon. It is Saturday and he has not called with those results. My father phoned his office yesterday, Friday, and the receptionist put him on hold for 15 full minutes, came back and said "The Dr needs to talk to you himself. He will call you this afternoon". He never called back. I want to email him and insist he get his act together to talk to my father asap. That is cruel, sadistic behavior if you ask me, on both the receptionist's and the Dr's part. Email address for him, anyone??

This was one of the worst doctors I have ever gone to. He has awards as a "Top Doctor" but he must play golf with the people who vote because I have no idea how he got them. His office staff is rude and he is rushed and abrupt. Forget about getting an appointment. His follow up is miserable and he never returns phone calls or e-mails. There are several other endocrinologists in this area and PLEASE do yourself a favor and go to one of them

This office is a disaster. The staff is totally unreliable and unorganized - not to mention rude (about the nicest term I can use). They lost my handicapped daughter's blood work and blamed everyone else. They FINALLY called me with her results 8 MONTHS later!! They finally admitted they had made the mistake with a "Oops - we must have misplaced it". Dr. Tohme spends about 3 minutes with us. At first he didn't want me in the room with my daughter. When I explained her multitude of problems, including severe mental retardation, his comment was, "so what". This after waits of between 3 and 4 hours. Run - do not walk - away!!!

After waiting 2 hours to be seen, Dr. TOHME appeared, asked how I was feeling- then asked me what I thought was wrong with me. I told him I had no idea, that's why I just explained my symptoms. He did not examine me, take urine or draw blood. He dismissed my symptoms and told me go home and lose some weight, then I'd feel better. I left the office crying, and called my primary doc immediately. He discovered that not only did I have a blood infection, with a 101 degree fever, I also had a huge kidney stone that was blocking my urine flow. So, if you want competent medical care- STAY AWAY FROM TOMEI

Dr. Tohme is one of the most caring physcians you can go to. He is so knowledgeable that my feeling it is worth the wait to see him. His staff has always been very courteous to me. The nurse practioner is great too! Dr. Tohme was there for me when I was in the hospital. He came everyday early to see how I was doing. He is helping me become healthier with the plan of action he gave me from the hospital. I highly recommend anybody to see him but just know that there might be a long wait but as I said it is definately worth it!

There should be a law about "doctors" like this one. His ego is as large as the wait is to get in to see him. Saw him twice and when I complained about being kept waiting he YELLED at me. No doctor is that good and this one doesn't even come close. Changed doctors and can't say enough good things about my new endocrinologist. This guy is a malpractice suit waiting to happen! Other great doctors out there - go see one of them. NOT THIS GUY!!!!

I have no clue how this doctor got his awards. His office is chaotic and the wait is absurd - 3 hrs on a good day. He is rushed and it is impossible to get a question answered if you make a phone call. He says to contact him via e-mail - well don't bother - he doesn't answer that either. Run as fast as you can in the opposite direction.

This is the abosolute worst practice I have ever been exposed to. I have waited three hours each time I have been seen. The only reason I returned more than once is because I couldn't believe how bad it was the first time. The Dr. told me the best way to contact him was via email. I tried three times and he never responded. The staff is rude and there is no communication. I really feel that the situation is borderline dangerous because you can't get anyone to answer your questions or listen to you because they are so rushed. It is a horrbile situation. I am just about to make my third phone call trying to get copies of my bloodwork to I can go somewhere else. The doctor may be good (?) - but he is so rushed that he doesn't concentrate on you so I am sure things are overlooked. Good luck to anyone who attempts to go here.

Dr Tohme's office practices are the worst I have ever encountered in medical appointments. The office itself is unwelcoming with the staff sequestered behind a frosted glass panel. Appointment times mean nothing, the staff is surly, the office space is a mess, his files appear slapdash and the Dr himself acts like he is doing you a favor when he sees you. I will second the comment that he seems rushed and may be prone to overlook things. There are many good doctors that recognize that they are a service business. Dr Tohme clearly does not really care for his patients. My advice is to find another doctor and not waste time on this guy.

This doctor's office is one of worst I have ever encountered! I have never been treated so poorly anywhere! They overbook appointments to the extent that I have seen 14 people in the waiting room at one time to see ONE doctor! The staff is rude, uncaring and they barely acknowledge you when you arrive for your appointment. Phone calls are not returned in a timely fashion and most aren't returned at all. I have waited over 3 weeks for blood test results and the office staff got annoyed when I called for results that should have been given to me within a couple of days (vital post brain surgery bloodwork). The first time I met with Dr. Tohme, he appeared knowledgeable and helpful. However, after that it was all downhill. I am going elsewhere to receive the proper professional care any patient deserves. When I called to get copies of my records for another endocrinologist, Dr. Tohme finally got on the phone with my test results. Too little, too late!! Stay away from this office.

Always a long wait but that isn't thw orst. Although seeing Tohme for diabetes, my thyroid cancer was discovered by another DR who actually takes his time and speaks with you, asking questions!! Tohme seemed upset that he missed it by not speaking to me and asking questions, then, when I said I wanted to get a second opinion, he told me I didn't know what I was doing and to just leave, he didn't need me as a patient if I was going to question him. I keep hearing how great he is but I have never seen it. Not once in 4 years. After giving them 3 chances, I went to another Dr and have been nothing but happy. Life's too short to deal with Tohme's arrogance, terrible bedside manner, his indifference and his crappy staff.

This Doctor is clearly an expert. But, he always appears rushed and I was concerned he was giving me incomplete information on alternative treatments. I was correct. He has the "bed side manner" of a drill instructor and a nineteenth century view of Doctor patient intercation. His support staff are the worst I have encountered and would probably lack the customer service skills to work in the DMV. Three visits, 1 1/2 hours wait, 2 hours and 3 hours. I'd rather have someone who is good and thorough than excellent and rushed. I can put up with a long wait and a direct approach but his office was so overloaded I found a better endocrinologist who takes the time.

Yes, you wait a long time to see Tohme, but it’s worth it. I went to another endocrinologist first who misdiagnosed me with insulin resistance, and put me on a useless medicine which just irritated my stomach. Tohme asked a lot of questions, had my bloodwork, did an exam and did a thyroid biopsy there and then (which was virtually painless) because I had such a bad case of hypothyroidism. He put me on the right medication and I’m already feeling better. He’s very nice, obviously cares a lot about his patients, and is devoted to finding the right treatment for everyone. His staff is NOT nasty, despite what other people say. Everyone I’ve dealt with has been extremely kind and considerate, especially considering how often they get yelled at by impatient denizens of the waiting room. It’s not their fault Tohme is a popular doctor who takes all the time he needs with patients. Highly recommend him, but keep the day open!

Arrogant man. I went for diabetes. he was always yelling at me and telling me for something. he put me on pills then said we need to SWITCH you to insulin. So i took insulin and no pills. my sugar went crazy. he then said no do both. that's not what he told me. then i saw a Dr under him and she told me to use lantus durin the day when sugar was high. I found out this was a bad thing I told Tohme and he told me she never said that. I had a witness ( my friend) with me. Then he told me that If I wanted to be a patient there i had to apologize to her. he accused me of lying. She gave me malpractice advise that could have caused serious trouble and then claimed she never told me that. He is arrogant and hates when the patient has some brains. he is only nice to people when they play dumb. HE IS DANGEROUS and does not care about people only money. And why wait over 2 hours to see a dr when you can find oune that doesn't treat you like crap and make you wait. BEWARE HORRIBLE DR

the wait is well-known and only those with fortitude and time can last until they're actually seen. the office staff has a serious lack of empathy and you have to question why it takes up to two weeks to get the results to blood tests, ultrasounds and other tests that could cause anxiety. doctor yelled at me on the phone when I complained and the nurse put me on the phone with him, yelled at me about my "serious" condition, but then scheduled a visit immediately and was kind to me and my husband. while he really seems to know his stuff, the lack of humane treatment is making me question if his knowledge is worth the effort. aren't I in effect, the customer???

I went to him on the recommendation of a friend who also suffers from PCOS. I waited over 2 hours to see him, and at one point, even opened my door and looked around to see if there was anyone in the office. That wasn't so bad, I was prepared to wait, but was not prepared for the emotional mistreatment I recieved. At the visit, I was belittled by the doctor, and basically told I was a lying (about my weight loss attempts and exercise), and little more that a big fat slob who has bad genetics and eats too much. I have never bee so mistreated by a medical professional, and left there hysterically crying. I did not know that I would need to bring all my weigh in logs, attendance sheets from my exercise classes, and sworn testamony from people who are aware of my situation. His office staff also appeared taken aback by my emotional state when I left. He is extremely arrogant and cruel. If you have PCOS stay away!!!

From my very first visit 17 years ago, I have never waited less than 2 hours. My first visit was 4 hours! He is a good doctor, though not giving you enough time makes him not the best. It took him a couple of years to figure out why I was not responding to my medication (another med was countering the effects of the other). I now have my intern monitor me. Should be more professional and understand that my time is important as well.

He is smart, passionate about his work and keeps his eye out for whats going on in the field. The Doctor responds to my emails. The staff has their job just fine, considering the hours, insurance company problems and some of the patients. I have been going to him for 3 years. Although, Dr. Thome himself is a good doctor...the wait to see him is obscene! I have never waited under 2 hours...3 is more typical...twice it was almost 4! Appointments are very hard to get and you must make them far in advance. Well, I had recently made an appointment months in advance only for the office to leave a message and cancel on me the day before. They told me Dr. Thome wasn't going to be in the office that day and to call back to re-schedule. I called back every day for a week, multiple times, leaving many messages and they still have not returned my call. They canceled on me, at least call me back to re-schedule! After writing this review, I will be going to the office to get my records, so I can go elsewhere.

Dr. Thome is a wonderful doctor. He made a world of a difference in the life of my son.... who was having a serious thyroid prob. He casually asked me to take a test... and found I too had the same problem. Dr. Thome went out of his way to help us. He is caring... but very naturally we should respect him and not try to teach him.... The staff was wonderful. Ofcourse, they are so busy and have no time to socialize with patients.

Fantastic physician. Recommended to me by my doctors. Detailed analysis of serious and complicated problems. Always made the correct decision. The best endocinologist in NJ and NY. He always stays curren in his field, as he also is a pofessor of medicine in NCY.

Pompous. Threatened if the patient has a little knowledge. Unprofessional.

Dr.Tohme is an excellent doctor. I have been to four other doctors and no one diagnosed thyroid cancer. Dr.Tohme takes time and cares for his patients. The staff only reacts to the way they are treated.I find the staff helpful and friendly.worst part os visit is listening to the patients complain

the waiting times are unreal -- 3 or 4 hours. The staff is a disaster. But, like the others say, the doctor is great--I too trust him 100%

Not at all helpful. He threw away 'dairy of glucose readings' that my internist asked to retain.

Dr. Tohme is wonderful!! Unfortunately being wonderful does have its disadvantage, many patients. Waiting can be up to 3 hours but now I call ahead to see how behind he is and get my errands done and when I get there I am usually next. You are taken in appt. order not who is there first. Yes his staff needs some classes in smiling but you only see them for 5 minutes. He is worth the wait!!!

Worst Doctor ever. He was so nasty and arrogant. I am already being treated for my Diabetes through an internist and have known for 37 years about Diabetes and how to monitor and care for my condition. Dr. Thome undermined the man who recommended him. My blood sugars are great and yet he gives me horror stories about how grave my condition will get if I don't listen to him and only him- then he insulted me and when I called him on it- he said he would not listen to a patient that does not believe in him......he's bad news and a nightmare to medicine.

You may have to wait for an appt, however, he does take his time when he sees you. He is extremely profesional. I trust this guy 100%. He adjusted my medicine and I feel much better. Except for Ramon the nurse, the staff is unprofessional and nasty. Remember you are going to see him not them. I ignore them or treat them the same way.
