26/07/13 4 5 4 4 I was hesitant to go to Dr. Sloan after reading the reviews but I didn't experience anything close to what was posted. The secretary was professional and I was seen right on time. Dr. Sloan was very helpful with my non-cosmetic concerns and even made small chat and asked about my life. He was friendly and thorough, spending time to examine my skin. My only negative comment would be that he didn't knock before entering the room after I changed.  Respond

27/03/13 5 5 1 1 Very punctual. Was shown into a room and told to sit on exam table. Dr Sloan walked in, spent maybe 30 secs asking me why I was there -- referred by family dr because of two spots that wouldn't heal -- spent most of the time writing notes. Then walked over, turned away from me, and said "close your eyes". When I did he sprayed me with liquid nitrogen in 4 spots -- two of which were the trouble spots. That was it; no explanation; no asking permission to invade my space; no telling what I was to do with these honking big brown burned spots on my face and chest! Come back in 6 wks. he said. OK. Do I trust him the next time? I don't care if he IS the only dermatologist in St. Catharines. This was inexcuseable behavior from a professional.

18/04/11 5 5 4 5 contrary to what has been written, I found the office friendly, courteous. The receptionist was friendly and quite pleasant. I found the doctor very nice, a bit uptight, but all in all he knew what to do and took the proper measures to insure a proper outcome. I found him to be rather pleasant. Also one has to remember that he is the only dermatologist in St. Catharines and the wait times will be lengthy. Keep that in mind when your next appointment may be 6 or so months down the road.  Respond

07/09/10 1 2 1 1 Worst doctor EVER! He performed a procedure incorrectly leaving permanent damage on my skin. I am considering suing him even though I'd rather wish for the damage to be undone...treats his patients like dollar signs...that's it.  Respond

01/06/10 1 3 1 3 I was referred by my family doctor to check for possible skin cancer and I had to wait 5 months for my appointment. When I got there, the receptionist was very rude and impolite and when I did get in to see the doctor, he really rushed me out of there. I kept asking questions anyway as he stood at the door with his hand on the knob waiting to leave the room, but I still sat down asking more questions (although I didn't get a chance to ask them all). He did take a quick look at my face, neck and back and said "you're fine". He did recommend various cosmetic treatments though which cost a lot of money and aren't covered by OHIP. I wasn't happy that I had to wait 5 months to be rushed out of there in only a few minutes and it sure seemed like my concerns weren't taken seriously at all. Such a shame.  See Responses

24/02/10 1 5 1 1 This jerk told me that I had skin cancer & for 4 months I was so worried. He referred me to Dr Peter Young to take a HUGE patch off my neck area. Dr Young wouldn't do something so big & disfiguring without knowing for sure if it was cancer. Guess what, it WASN'T cancer. Thanks God for Dr Young, he could have just removed the area but he said, that even as a plastic surgeon, I would still be scarred from something so large in that conspicuous area of my body. I asked Dr Sloan why he told me I had cancer when I didn't...he said "If I did that to each patient, then I'd be doing biopsies all day". I suppose it's better to misdiagnose people, worry them for months on end, leave it to the hospital oncology department and the plastic surgeon who is booked for surgery to do the simple biopsy. I guess Botox must pay better than biopsies.  Respond

09/02/09 1 4 2 3 Try to reach the office to change my appointment during business hours for 2 days and was pushed to voicemail. No returned call. Called after hours to leave a message and my call was not returned. I had to send an email for which they called me back 2 days later. The receptionist was extremely rude when we finally talked.  Respond

08/02/09 3 4 2 3 For being a Dermatologist, Dr Sloan has very little interest in patients with skin diseases. He's more interested in microdermabrasions and botox treatments for wealthy ladies of the Niagara Region. That would be non-Ohip of course.  Respond

02/02/09 5 5 5 5 I found Dr Sloan to be thorough and extremely kind. I find it hard to believe that so many of you dislike him.His office staff was polite, and called me back within two hours for an appointment with a surgeon. What more do want?  Respond

10/09/08 1 5 1 1 I was referred to him by my family doctor due to the fact that every person in my family on my father's side has had either basal cell carcinoma or melanoma (now Mom has melanoma). When Dr. Sloan came in, he asked me how old I was and when I told him I was 30 he laughed and said 30 year olds don't get skin cancer. I told him that my Aunt did. He glanced quickly at me and told me I was fine. I now go to a different dermatologist which I see once a year because he said it is very important for someone with blonde hair, blue eyes and a strong family history to be checked out regularly. Dr. Sloan was by far the most unprofessional doctor I have ever had.  Respond

25/08/08 1 1 1 1 I got 4 chemical peels done for $500 altogether. The receptionist and nurse were rude to me. The doctor rushed me out of there and hadly even looked at my acne. While the "nurse" and Dr. Sloan were putting on my peel which took about 5 minutes, they talked to each other about sports instead of asking how I was doing. I will never go back here again.  Respond

30/07/08 4 5 4 4 Dr. Sloan seems very knowledgeable and confident in his field. However, he does rush you out of there just a little quick at times. I did not have time to ask any questions!!!!  Respond

15/07/08 1 5 3 4 I have never had an experience with a doctor quite like I did with this one. He didn't even introduce himself to me when he first came into the examining room and gave the impression that he couldn't get rid of me fast enough. I felt very, very rushed and was extremely disappointed with his "bedside manner".  Respond

21/02/08 1 3 1 1 Dr. Sloan did not help me at all. I would highly NOT recommend him. To pay hundreds for a 'peel' that was mixed in a smiley face plastic cup was not professional at all. To boot, the receptionist was very arrogant for some unknown reason.  Respond

10/01/08 1 4 1 1 I had a cosmetic procedure done incorrectly by one of his "associates" (not a nurse I later discovered). I was in a complete panic and went back the next day. Sloan was literally hiding in the back and did not want to deal with me. I was so upset I left and came back later with my husband. His staff were unsympathetic and rude and Sloan did not come out to even look at me. I refused to leave and the secretary went into the back office where he was hiding. She came back and stated that they recommended that I have another procedure done, at my own expense of course. I went to a cosmetic surgeon in Toronto instead to correct the problem. I do not have any confidence in the medical knowledge that this man has and I would not go to him for any dermatological issue or cosmetic procedure. He is also more expensive for elective procedures but does not have the knowledge or skill to justify what he charges.  Respond

03/08/07 2 2 1 2 Saw this Dr? on 3 occassions. Found him rude, arrogant, distant and generally the very disinterested. He used Liquid Nitrogen on 2 of the occasions and the 3rd--said I had basal cell carcinoma and referred me to a surgeon. Not once did he do a check on my body to see if there were spots that could be serious. He is only apparently interested in do cosmetic surgery as these pictures are the only ones displayed in his office. I guess my little sun spots and cancer were not costly enough to be worthy of his time. Not recommended for anyone interested in good medical care.  Respond

05/06/07 5 2 2 Felt rushed during my visit and felt the doctor was afraid to do a routine skin exam on me, used his pen to move my gown as if I had something contagious. As for his staff, to my knowledge he does not have a nurse working for him and this is the second location of where he is working that he has misrepresented this staff member as a trained professional(nurse). Really, lets give credit where credit is due. If she is a nurse, I stand corrected, however last time I asked her she was not.  Respond

06/05/07 3 2 3 Saw this Dr twice for skin damage spots which he quickly burned off (did miss several spots) and dismissed me with my large bill which was due stat! The 3rd visit I brought to his attention a growth on my face which continued to grow and bleed. He diagnosed it as basal cell carcinoma and told me what surgeon to go to as he did not do "that kind of work" I would have thought he would have at least checked the rest of my body but apparently didn`t care. I found him to be arrogant, reserved and did not want any physical contact with me all. Very difficult to communicate with and rushed out of examining room. The staff was borderline unpleasant and appeared to be there for paycheck only. Maybe he is more attentive when the big bucks are being paid.

10/04/07 3 2 2 I saw him and I must say that I was not impressed. He did not even come close enough to me to see the problem. I wanted to tell him to get a pair og glasses because he was not seeing things properly. I am sure he is a nice guy but he's not vey helpful or useful. He gave me a prescription for acne medication when I do not even have acne! I felt like he just gave it to me to make me feel like he helped me. I went and got the script filled just out of curiousity and the pharmacist looked at me and asked why I was going to use it when I didn't have acne. What I really wanted was something to lighten up red spots from an infection I had gotton on the top part of my body. He looked at me and siad that he undrstood and would give me something to help the marks go away and acne medication is what I got. From where he was sitting he told me they looked like big pimples and they are othing of the sort. I gave him a 2 for knowledge because I don't really know if he has any.  Respond

28/03/07 3 1 2 Arrogant, uncaring and seems to be very bored with his career decision. When I asked him about melignant melanoma he handed me a pamphlet with pictures on it and that was it. His receptionist is rude and lazy. His nurse has an attitude problem. I guess if you are not seeing him for cosmetic reasons you just don't count. $$$$$$  Respond

14/01/07 5 5 5 Dr. Sloan was referred to me by my family doctor. I was very pleased with his care and helpfulness. He suggested a few things I do to take care of these mysterious hives. He was very knowledgable and listened to me complain how fustrated I was with my condition. I would highly recommend him to anyone. His staff was also caring and compassionate. Great Doctor!!!  Respond
