My husband and I saw several doctors (Asaria-too young)(Solomon-too rushed)(Rival-good) before going ahead. Dr Smith was the one we felt the most likely to be successful. I found this site and realself.com helpful in confirming my impression. Plus I was impressed he is a sculptor. The surgery was unpleasant, but I had been warned. In fact the stents weren't so bad.
I did poorly initially. I had a big nose, which to me looked like it belonged on another face. Although Dr Smith had told me it would take time for my nose to shape up, I was very unset after surgery. The tip was wide and round and looked like a big fat ball. I was devastated and felt in spite of all my research I had made the worst choice of my life. Even though I live in northern Ontario I saw Dr Smith many times and sent him several photos. He was patient and in retrospect spent a lot of time listening to my concerns. He told me my nose would improve as the swelling went away. I didn't believe him cause he wouldn't promise it. Well he was right all along. First the bridge started to look okay and then the tip narrowed. I'm now 6 months out and my nose looks good! It's much smaller and is perfect for my face. After some very dark days I'm now very glad I did it! It's a hugh improvement and although nobody noticed I'm okay with that too. I love Dr Smith (my husband is okay what I worship him!) He held my hand for months and listened to all my fears and tears. If I have a complaint, it's that he's too honest. If he had simply guaranteed it was all going to be fine I might have done better. Although I was such an emotional mess, it may not have made a difference! Thank you Dr Smith. You are good at what you do and are a very kind person too. And for everyone reading this and thinking about rhinoplasty, go see him. He's the best!
I had surgery back in 2012 with Dr Smith regarding a deviated septum and non symmetrical nose. Dr smith assured me a 75%-80% chance of achieving my goals, which where to fix the septum and make my nose symmetrical. He asked me if I was interested in having the nose narrow or smaller. I said no. I was happy with the overall size and shape of my nose.
I then paid him his money, and he did the surgery. Months after the surgery
where the most terrifying moments in my life. He had made the overall shape of my nose smaller, without my consent. Not only that, but the nose is still non symmetrical.
Only the septum was fixed. I had felt violated and helpless that this had happened. I get terrified and sad when I look in the mirror because that's not my face, and now i have a nose that looks operated on. I hate myself for this. I wake up in the middle of the night at times with panic and anxiety of remembrance of the times after the surgery. The overall experience has been a life changer for the worst. I wish i just had listened to my instinct and stayed away from Dr Smith.
It has been nearly 2 years since Dr. Oakley Smith changed my life by performing my rhinoplasty surgery. His office is very welcoming, his receptionist is on point and always got back to me and is polite. We clicked from the moment the consultation began. He listened to me, but had a lot of knowledge and I loved everything he had to suggest about my nose, not like other doctors I met with who just wanted to give me the same generic bunny nose as every other girl in toronto and made me feel unsatisfied. Dr. Oakley smith emailed me back right away, I felt great the day of surgery, all my appointments after the surgery were great. He is very genuine and seemed truly into seeing the results of his work as well, very personal. I love my nose I am so happy it is so perfect and better than I ever imagined. It is the nose I was always meant to have. I even have a two year follow up coming in the new year to see further progress. I highly recommend Dr. Oakley Smith for anyone looking into getting their nose done, or re-done. He knows what he is doing and he is amazing!
Do yourself a favour if your in need of surgery on your nose make a appointment with Dr smith. I had my surgery June 03/14 and am very happy with the results. The recovery period was a little sore but was well worth it. My breathing now is near perfect and I can't say enough about him and his staff . Thank you Dr Smith
It's now a year since my nose job and I love it! I went with Dr Smith because my best friend had a great looking nose by him. The recovery wasn't fun but I didn't have much swelling or bruising. My breathing got better even though it was fine before! Dr Smith was great! He likes his job and sure is good at it. I'm glad I chose him.
It has been just shy of a year since I had my rhinoplasty last fall with Dr. Oakley Smith. Hands down, very happy and satisfied with the results - trust me, you do not want to go anywhere else. I'll tell you some reasons why.
A year ago, I came to visit Dr. Smith after having had 2 other consultations elsewhere in Toronto. One of these consultations was in a house-based place with a loud parrot and large fish tank - sure I paid $100 for the consultation and they offered $1000 discount since they knew I was shopping around - but I was not swayed. The second place was very posh in a fraternity neighborhood (maybe you know what I'm talking about) - and I didn't like how they tried to convince me that I should also be getting my chin done - as I happen to love my chin I said screw them.
My nose - well, I had the whole bulbous tip thing going on and it just did not look feminine. That was my number one concern. The greatest part about seeing Dr Smith was that after attempting to tell him that I didn't like this about my nose, he further discussed the problem areas of my nose to the point where he gained my trust completely before the appointment was even over. He didn't try and ask me what kinds of celebrity noses I liked, he is all about making realistic improvements that will be best for your face. This is the kind of doctor you want - someone who sees the bigger picture, offers an achievable goal and stops you from comparing yourself to the displays of perfection in the media. The level of expertise, accreditation and concentration on rhinoplasty are all valid and important factors to check off - but more importantly you'll find that by going through all these online forums time and time again - people only have positive things to say and you would be one of them too.
ps - Love the new office.
Before the surgery my nose was large, pronounced, slightly down turned, and bulged out over the bridge. I didn't like the way I looked. I didn't look like the person I felt I was. With some hesitation and nervousness I decided to pursue rhinoplasty. My biggest hesitation was the worry of a poor outcome, having come across a lot of horror stories when looking at surgeons online. In order to minimize risk as much as possible, I sought an experienced surgeon with a proven record. After considerable research, Dr Oakley Smith stood out the most. At the consultation I immediately got a good vibe from him. His modest and calm demeanour made me feel comfortable. He probed for what I wanted out of the surgery and listened attentively. He was clear, honest, and made sure to answer all my questions. He proposed a series of modifications by accurately drawing them out on paper and explaining their respective impacts. It was clear that not only did he possess an incredible amount of expertise and knowledge in surgery, but I could also sense an artistic and design-oriented mind at work. From researching and meeting with all the other surgeons, I can say Dr Smith possesses a truly rare combination of exceptional surgical and design skills which has rightfully earned him a notable presence in his field.
The procedure went by fast and before I knew it I was on my way to recovery. The recovery was surprisingly painless. A common complaint I've read regarding some other surgeons is that patients sometimes feel abandoned after they've paid and the procedure is complete. With Dr Smith you can tell he truly cares for his patients. I met with him a week after the surgery where he reassured me and helped guide me toward a smooth recovery. There were ample follow ups in the weeks that came and he was always available through email or the reception for any important concerns. It's clear that he's in it for more than just money; he's invested in the positive outcome of the surgery and enriching the lives of his patients.
The change to my nose was substantial. The size was considerably reduced down to an average size which fits my face much, much better. My profile has been drastically changed with the bump along the bridge gone (which has even improved my vision a bit). My expectations were far exceeded and I couldn't be happier with the outcome!
The surgery has been such a positive transformation in my life that I can't imagine not having done it. I finally look the way I feel. I hadn't payed as much attention to my appearance prior to the surgery as it felt somewhat fruitless. I was always aware of my appearance in the back of my mind and it was a detriment to my self-worth.
Following the surgery I was amazing how quickly the new nose became a part of me. I feel so much more confident, value myself more, and am motivated to invest in myself to further that sense of value. I feel it has enabled a new segment in my life and was a necessary change. I owe it all to Dr Smith.
Having gone through the process, my advice is: don't short change yourself and take any unnecessary risks with an inexperienced or careless surgeon. You might save some money, but there's a real risk of ending up a negative review on a surgeon's profile page. Skill and experience can set surgeons worlds apart. Keep in mind that you're making an investment in yourself - be sure to thoroughly research your candidates, review their record, and go with an experienced surgeon. In doing so, I could not recommend Dr Oakley Smith enough. Be sure to see him, you'll be glad you did!
Had a consultation with Dr. Smith. Felt very comfortable at the appointment, he did not rush and was open to all questions. Secretary was also nice. Combined with his office (located in a house) it all had the effect of making me feel a lot less nervous about surgery.
