I went through medical school in St. John's and worked with countless doctors in the system. If I were to ever need emergency services, I would pray that it would be Doug Baggs over ANYONE else! And I'm not alone - every medical professional I know has nothing but the utmost respect for him and his skills. So for those of you who are complaining because he doesn't pat your hand and empathize enough, go see your family doctors. He is an Emergency Room physician - trained to save lives - and he is the best in his field, PERIOD. Most ER docs in this province are GP's who are working in emerg which may be why people are used to a more "touchy-feely" approach in the ER here. But Doug Baggs has complete Emergency Medicine specialty training and we need more like him. Unfortunately, we are losing him for at least a year. We should all hope he returns... you have no idea how many people are still walking around because of him. Think twice before you post these kind of remarks.

This guy has probably the toughest doc job in NL and has seen some tough things over his years, surprised he isn't jaded or burnt out. That said, his skills as a captain of the HSC ER are *bar none*. I feel there is no difference between what he offers patients and what he is able to offer. Genuinely concerned about everyone getting home alive. If I arrived in HSC on a stretcher, I know I would be getting out still alive and in the best shape possible.

This doctor should never be allowed to work in emergency. He doesn't really listen to his patients - enough said!

Dr. Baggs is one of the worst doctors both me and my husband has ever come across at the Health Science Complex. He got the bed side manner of a dog. He cursed more than once while treating me.Told me that the chest pains I was experiencing was all in my head.I thanked him and told him that thanks to him I would never go back to the health science again through emerg. When my husband went to him he told him his liver was shot from drinking. My husband don't even drink. As it turned out my husband had a harden vein in his stomach and also a hernia.I spoke with my family doctor about him.She told me that he was a trama doctor and that he was the best in his field. That if you were ever in a car acident or major trama accident of some sort that he would be the one you would need to help you. I told her he may be good as a trama doctor but for seeing out patients at the emerg he is the worst one to see. They should have him on call for trama emergencies only.

He treated my husband in the local ER and was very rude to both of us. Rudest doctor I have ever met. People in the ER need to be re-assured and not insulted. Was the same way to the other patients in our area too.

ONLY FOR THE NURSE TELLING ME TO GO TO CASEROOM FOR AN ASSESSMENT BECAUSE SHE FELT IT WAS MORE THAN A UTI...SURE ENOUGH I WAS IN EARLY LABOR, GIVEN STEROID SHOT FOR THE BABYS LUNGS AND MEDS TO HELP PREVENT DELIVERY. THANK GOD THE DOCTORS HAVE NURSES BEHIND THEM TO FIX THEIR MISTAKES

This doctor told a nurse who was concerned about the amount of morphine by 86 year old was given for pain to give him more " he's not dead yet". I can't describe how in a very emotional situation how that made the family feel .If you hate your job that much ..move on.

I seen Dr. Baggs in the Emergency Dept. at the Health Sciences. I was pregnant with my first baby and was having a miscarriage. While he was thorough and efficient in the actual examination, he only came back in to tell me that I was having a miscarriage and the nurse would be in to give me some pills. He did not explain what was going to occur throughout the next few days and I almost ended back up in the hospital three days later. Horrible experience given that it was my first pregnancy.

I think he must be very smart but he comes across as very hard and cold and not very caring.

When my father was dying of cancer, this doctor was incredibly cold and uncaring to him and my family. As he was lying suffering on the stretcher we expected compassion and care from him, all we got was a shrug and "what do you want me to do about it?", followed by him strutting off. I have never experienced such a heartless interaction with a physician before in my life. You would not treat a dying dog with the indifference that we were shown.
